This paper reports the effects of variation of number of quantum wells in material gain characteristics and lasing wavelength of step index separately confined type-I InGaAsP/InP lasing nano-heterostructure for different carrier concentrations at room temperature in TE (Transverse Electric) mode of polarization. Peak material gain is found to be highest when the number of quantum well is one in the structure. However, for the case of 3QWs, 5QWs and 7QWs, it is almost same at a particular carrier density. Lasing wavelength at peak material gain considerably increases as the number of quantum well layers vary from single quantum well layer to three quantum well layers in the active region and after that it will remain almost same by any further increase in number of quantum wells for a particular carrier density. Furthermore, negative gain condition in the material gain spectra exists in the case of multiple quantum wells only at carrier concentration of 2×1018/cm3. The results suggest that the proposed nano-heterostructure is highly suitable as a light source in fiber optic links for long distance communication.

E-learning software is a product of information and communication technology used to help dynamic and flexible learning process between teacher and student. The software technology was first used in the development of e-learning software in the form of web applications. The advantages of this technology because of the ease in the development, installation, and distribution of data. Along with advances in mobile/wireless electronics technology, e-learning software is adapted to this technology known as mobile learning. The ability of this electronic device is the same as a single computer even though it is simpler than a single computer. The problem that arises when e-learning software operates on multiple platforms is that computer programs are made repeatedly depending on the platform being used. This situation will obviously affect the quality of e-learning software. To overcome these problems, in this study developed component-based software that is a modern paradigm for software development that produces reusable software components, high quality, and cost-effective. In software development, software components will be assembled in the software in need. The result of this research is high quality e-learning software based multiplatform component.

Thunderstorms are dangerous and it has increased due to highly precipitation and cloud cover density in the Mesoscale Convective System area. Climate change is one of the causes to increasing the thunderstorm activity. The present studies aimed to estimate the thunderstorm activity at the Tawau area of Sabah, Malaysia based on the Multiple Linear Regression (MLR), Dvorak technique, and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). A combination of up to six inputs of meteorological data such as Pressure (P), Temperature (T), Relative Humidity (H), Cloud (C), Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV), and Precipitation (Pr) on a daily basis in 2012 were examined in the training process to find the best configuration system. By using Jacobi algorithm, H and PWV were identified to be correlated well with thunderstorms. Based on the two inputs that have been identified, the Sugeno method was applied to develop a Fuzzy Inference System. The model demonstrated that the thunderstorm activities during intermonsoon are detected higher than the other seasons. This model is comparable to the thunderstorm data that was collected manually with percent error below 50%.

The paper studies a nonlinear model based on time series neural network system (TSNN) to improve the highly nonlinear dynamic model of an automotive lead acid cell battery. Artificial neural network (ANN) take into consideration the dynamic behavior of both input-output variables of the battery charge-discharge processes. The ANN works as a benchmark, its inputs include delays and charging/discharging current values. To train our neural network, we performed a pulse discharge on a lead acid battery to collect experimental data. Results are presented and compared with a nonlinear Hammerstein-Wiener model. The ANN and nonlinear autoregressive exogenous model (NARX) models achieved satisfying results.

In this study, we developed a document for managing Information Technology suppliers in hospitals. This document is used to ensure the proper management of IT suppliers in the hospital. Products and services in Information Technology have characteristics and specifications that are always up to date, making it difficult for non-IT people to understand. Hospitals whose main business in the health sector is often lack of human resources who understand IT. Observations and interviews were conducted in Indonesian hospital, to identify the characteristics and problems in supplier management. Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies (COBIT), Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and government regulations on supplier management were reviewed and combined as a benchmark and guidance on how supplier management activities are carried out. The result of the process is a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) document. The parties involved in the supplier management process have evaluated the SOP document. From the results of the study, it is known that currently, the hospital is still focused on procedures procurement of goods and services that are government regulated. This study proposes some new activities that are not currently done by the hospital.

Monitoring vital signs is substantial in healthcare to assist both diagnosis and treatment. This work proposes a means of telemonitoring system at initial stage to observe respiratory pattern on lung phantom. Magnetic sensor module LDC1000 is used to read inductance value of conductive material in relation to distance variation. Therefore, respiration pattern can be observed. In continuous mode, the inspiration inductance value is 8 uH, while expiration is 17 uH, with stoppage is 17 uH. For static measurement, the inspiration inductance value is 7.80 uH, while expiration is 16.46 uH and stoppage is 16.46 uH. Those values could be further referred for vital signs telemonitoring system design based on contactless and portable devices.

The search for improvement in the result of segmentation of regions of interest in medical images has continued to be a source of challenge to researchers. Several research efforts have gone in to delineate regions of interest in the prostate gland from Trans-rectal ultrasound (TRUS) 2D-images. In this work, we develop a fast algorithm based on radial/axial scanning of the pixels of the prostate gland image with the goal of detecting hyper-echoic pixels that are bound within the boundaries of the gland TRUS 2D-images. The algorithm implements expert knowledge and utilizes the features extracted from the intensity of the TRUS images, primarily the relative intensity and gradient to delineate region of interest. It employs radial/axial scanning of the image from common seed point automatically selected to detect the region of the gland and subsequently hyper-echoic pixels which indicate suspected cancerous tissue cites. Evaluation of the algorithm performance was done by comparing detection result with that of expert radiologists. The detection algorithm gave an average accuracy of 88.55% and sensitivity of 71.65%.

The transistors are the key element of present communication system having high data rate. Some applications need high gain by using very low frequency, and then transistors are used. Amplifier is the key element in many applications of present high data rate communication system such as low noise amplifier (LNA), broadband amplifier, distributed and power amplifier. The Darlington pair amplifier is analyzed for high frequency performance and related effect of bandwidth. Broadband feedback Darlington pair amplifier is designed with enhanced gain, bandwidth and slew rate. This paper presents the comparison of single stage and three stage feedback Darlington feedback amplifier with reference to gain, bandwidth and slew rate. This paper is simulated on cadence analog design environment at GPDK 45nm technology. This paper shows that increase in gain, bandwidth and slew rate of three stage Darlington feedback amplifier can show better stability over the single stage Darlington feedback amplifier.

Face recognition is an emerging research area in recognition of the people. A novel feature extraction technique was introduced for robust face recognition. Enhanced Local binary pattern (EnLBP) divided the image into sub regions. For each sub region, the salient features are extracted by obtaining the mean value of each sub region. In LBP, each pixel was replaced by applying LBP into each sub region. In this paper, the mean value of sub region was replaced for the sub region. It reduced the dimension of the image and extracts the salient information on each sub region. The extracted features are compared with similarity measures to recognize the person. EnLBP reduces the operation time and computational complexity of the system. The experimental results were carried out in the standard benchmark database LFW-a. The proposed system achieved a higher recognition rate than other local descriptors.
