Abstract

Abstract: Education is every single effort to maintain and develop human nature both esoteric and exoteric aspects. Reality in education shows that the human esoteric aspect left behind far from the progress of exoteric. Wrong paradigm that limits religious knowledge just in Islamic schools or Islamic boarding schools gradually can dissociate public school students from education of faith and devotion. Consequently, the orientation of education in schools turns into more materialistic, individualistic, and secularistic. Thus, there is a massive reduction of human existence itself. To overcome this, it is noteworthy to reorient education towards the holistic education with investment values of religious spirituality (Sufism) to get closer to God through Islamic extracurricular in school. This solution will make vertical integration of submission to God and horizontally dialectical dimension to humanity and the environment. The integration produces an educational output, such as students with righteous personality and noble behavior. Therefore, it can be understood that the values of Sufism are very esensial and cannot be separated from the educational problem-solving.

Abstract

Abstract: When prophet Musa, prayed to Allah , he requested to be able to see Him directly. But when he was shown to a mountain , he saw the mountain blasted and crushed and he was thrown away and fainted. Allah is not to be seen physically (Sufi metaphysics and gnosis (al-ma’rifah, ‘irfan), because physical appearance we can see, sometimes, can make a bias to our perception and make our decision wrong.. To be close to Allah forever in such a way can not be easily reached not only because of limited abilities of our senses but also because all decision we have made are as the product of empirical, and descriptive rationality, while Allah is the most absolute existence of the Supreme Being. Thus, to be close to Allah through senses means to restrict His absolute Almighty God as the Supreme Being, to narrow His traits of God and to reduce His soul of absoluteness. However, it does not mean that to communicate with Allah (the experience of mystical union or direct communion with ultimate reality), is like to communicate in an empty tube, “.. In fact, there are many scholars of mysticism (Sufism) who can tell their spiritual experiences about the greatness and dignity of God through meditation and spiritual insight (Mujahadah, muqarabah, and muraqabah) where Islamic mysticism seeks to evaluate, contemplate and purify the human soul. Their spiritual experience in peace and harmony with God the Al-mighty is called hulul, ittihad and wahdat al-wujud. The differences of experience between both rational and intuitive reasoning causes human tragedy to the scholars of mysticism like al Hallaj, al-Suhrawardi, and Shekh Siti Jenar.. Actually, this conflict should not happen if each side could keep their emotion academically, and respect their differences each other. Why? Because this conflict, eventually, causes the development of Islamic science become stagnancy like today.

Abstract

Abstract: All religions, if we try to find their core teachings, we will find the same messages, namely the realization of peace, goodness, and happiness to mankind. No religion teaches violence and savagery. This confirms that theologically religion is very much interested in the realization of human well-being in life. Thus, peace must be a meeting point for all religions to implement in social life. This paper explored the Sufi’s view of the nature of God, religion, and the perennial wisdom based on the principle of spirituality and love (mahabbah).

Abstract

Abstract: Islamic teachings spread in Indonesia, especially in Java, when the Mangkunegara IV authority, through its mysticism (Sufism) teaching, was adjusted to the religious teachings and beliefs containing moral values and character building inspired by thinking paradigm of cultural values of Javanese (Kejawen). This indicates that development of Islam in Indonesia has been strongly influenced by Islamic mysticism, especially, of Javanese culture. It can be seen from literature of Javanese Islamic teaching. Some identities and characteristics of Javanese teachings that still survive up to now are the principle teachings of worship to God and good deed. Both principles are relevant to the teachings of Qur’an and hadith. These teachings were also practiced by Sunni mysticism such as al-Ghazali and non-Sunni mysticism like Al-Hallaj and Ibn ‘Arabi. Additionally, in Indonesia, specially in Java, the absorption process of Islamic teachings can not be separated from the influence of Javanese culture which contains religious values of Sufism teachings. The concept of worship and good deed is done by the mysticism doers both by Sunni and non-Sunni followers.

Abstract

Abstracts: Al-Ghaza>li’s < sufism –which described as more khuluqi-'amali in character- becomes the creed of majority of Muslims in the world, in fact adhered by some sects within Judaism and Christianity. Although some Muslim thinkers, such as Ibn Rushd, criticized al-Ghaza>li<, but his arguments in Ih}ya>’ ‘Ulum al-Di>n seem to be too solid to tear down. This article tries to explore the main points of al-Ghaza> li<’s thoughts in the atmosphere of contemporary world and came to conclusion that in this time when Islam is often expressed in harsh and barren manners, al-Ghaza>li’s sufism shows its relevance and significance. He offers the concept of love of God(mah}abbah), oneness of God (tawh}id), fear of God (makha>fah ), and gnosis (ma’rifah) to the mankind. According to al-Ghaza>li , someone who loves God must love God's creatures as well. This concept leads to the good behaviors such as desire to unite oneself with God by repentance (tawbah), asceticism (zuhd) for fear of being far from God, trusting in God (tawakkul), and being pleased with all decisions and provisions of God (rid}a). These spiritual stages will lead to the degree of knowing God (ma'rifah). Modern society, that often feel alienated, will find the book Ih}ya> 'Ulu> m al-Di>n as a cooling oasis.

Abstract

Abstract: This article tries to analyze the articulation of tasa>muh} as any form of recognition of difference. Tasa>muh} can exist if there is recognition of the diversity of thought. Therefore, the existence of tasamuh can be meaningful if it is present in a pluralistic reality. On the other hand, the articulation of tasa>muh} can also be presented from the values of sufism, namely by putting the reality of God as a mirror of life. Phenomena of the universe is the God’s manifestation. Therefore, all the phenomena of nature is already acknowledged its existence by God, because He created it. Then, when the articulation Tasamuh presented through this understanding, then it can be a social capital in order to build a more moderate social order.
