Abstract

The development of composite materials can be combined with the test material to obtain a composite material properties such as strength, hardness, wear, and surface roughness. The surface roughness of polymeric materials and composites can be tested in many ways, ranging from tactile method (profile measurement), focus variation (area measurement), fringe projection (area measurement), confocal laser scanning microscope (area measurement), and several other methods. Varied roughness testing on the surface will be compared to obtain the most suitable testing method to obtain the roughness of hybrid composite and composite ceramic specimens. The method used in this study is literature review. For hybrid composite material will be less suitable when using tactile method because of hybrid composite having a lower surface hardness. Additionally hybrid composite has a porosity value greater than the ceramic composite. This causes hybrid composite is more rugged than ceramic composite. Therefore with greater porosity will be suitable when using the roughness measurement with a microscope device such as fringe projection (area measurement), and confocal laser scanning microscope (area measurement).

Abstract

The main problem of electric vehicles are slow and expensive compared to conventional car. Because of that, it needs electrical motor that had the good performance and high efficiency. Brushless DC motor is the best electric motor. In this study, two brushless DC motor called Golden Motor Magic Pie 5 and Mitsuba M1048R was compared. Golden Motor Magic Pie 5 has lower efficiency of 78% compare to Mitsuba M1048R efficiency of 92%. However, the price Mitsuba M1048R 140 million is higher than Golden Motor Magic Pie 5.

Abstract

Deflection is one of criteria in designing a construction. Analysis can be conducted by using several method and to obtain the more accurate result the process can be conducted by using a computer program. For comparison to evaluate the accurate of the analysis, a deflection test was conducted with a deflection test device.The exact analysis was conducted by using the three moment methods. The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of the lay out of load along the beam towards deflection. The deflection along the beam varied according on the load and its position. The deflection obtained for brass is 1,29 x 10-3 m, while for alluminium and steel are 1,25 x 10-3 m and 4,87 x 10-4 m, respectively.

Abstract

Improving wear resistance has many variated techniques. The purpose of this work is to compare between DCT (Deep Cryogenic Treated) technique and sand blasting treatment on material steel. XRD ,SEM and TEM are used to examine the changing phase in microstructure level and Hardness contact zones after and before testing. Hence, it can be defined which method that improve significantly the wear resistance.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to compare the performance of two differences tube configuration in solar hot water collector thermosiphon system of Serpentine-Parallel and Parallel-Serpentine. Not only the tubes configuration are not the same, but also the collector materials, such as hot water reservoir and heat absorber are differences. For example, fiberglass and stainless steel reservoirs are compared in terms of long-lasting heat isolation. Likewise, copper tubes configuration between serpentine-parallel and parallel-serpentine are shown in association with mass flow rates and times consume to heat the water within the tubes. The test results show that parallel-serpentine configuration has higher performance (around 50%) than that of serpentine-parallel (approximately 35%). It is possibly because of fluid velocity within the tube configuration.

Abstract

One of the ways to preserve energy on the air plane is by decreasing the drag. Drag is closely related to the flow separation, the faster the separation, then the drag will increase more. Because of that, efforts were conducted to decrease drag is by manipulating a fluid flow field that is by installing triangle rod obstacle in front of the cylinder. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of installing triangle rod obstacle in front of the cylinder by various air flow velocity on the drag cofficient. In this research, the experiment was conducted in the wind tunnel, which consists of blower, pitot pipe, manometer, cylinder pipe, and triangle rod. The air flow velocity was varied from 6.25 m/s, 5.01 m/s, 4.09 m/s, 3.17 m/s, 2.24 m/s .The Reynold number based on cylinder (D = 42 mm) and air flow velocity is Re =18.100, 14.500, 11.800, 9.170, 6.480 .The distance triangle rod and cylinder is L = 70 mm or L/D=1.67.Pressure distribution is achieved by measuring the cylinder surface on 36 spots with interval of 100. The measured data was pressure of cylinder surface, static pressure, and airflow speed. The research results showed that the triangle rod could decrease the drag of cylinder. Coefficient drag for cylinder without triangle rod was 0,1276 while the less triangle rod was 0,01882 which takes place at speed 6,2479 m/s.

Abstract

Electric vehicles are a choice for the future. Therefore, the electric vehicle will be spreads in the community. The public is the average consumer who does not have knowledge about electric vehicles, especially for problem charger. Charger technology in an Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) consists of three types, namely AC level 1, AC level 2 and DC fast charging. Each type has advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantage of AC level 1 type is take a long time for charging (about 20 hours) and the advantage is no risk of damaging the battery. AC level 2 has shortcomings that are still relatively long time to process the charge but shorter process than the AC charge level 1 and there is no high risk of damaging to the battery. DC fast charging has excesscharge process is very short (express)at range 20-30 minutes, but the disatvantage is very high risk of damaging the batteries in continuous usage.This paper also provide discussion for placement of any type of charger, so that people will understand.
