The tourism industry is an industry that can absorb many creative economic markets. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the creative economic activities as added value that support the tourism industry. The creative economy analyzed here is the creative fashion economy, which is one of the supporters in providing direct income and advertising as a downstream chain of tourism to convey messages to consumers. Method used qualitative and quantitative by looking for regression between income and costs and based on questionnaires conducted on consumers. The results showed a relationship between costs of advertising incurred with income derived from visitor. In a qualitative analysis in the fashion subsector, fashion can contribute a value of 10-12% to revenue. To accelerate in this industry is by knowing the various sub-sectors that are part of the tourism industry value chain and increasing creativity and innovation of creative economic products (fashion and advertising).

Abstract

Alindo Dewata Tours Bali as an inbound tours companydeals with the competitors by applying competitive strategy.Nevertheless the competitive strategy applied is not maximumyet. It is apparently seen at the average growth of touristsnumber handled since 2004-2013 by the company only 5,97 %.Therefore, this study has the objective to know what internalexternal factors that give influences and competitive strategy tobe applied in the company. This research using analysis toolsof Internal Factor Evaluation (IFE) matrix, External FactorEvaluation (EFE) matrix for general strategy, Internal External(IE) matrix, Strength Weakness Opportunity Threat (SWOT)matrix for alternative strategy and Quantitative StrategicPlanning Matrix (QSPM) for priority strategy. The result of IFEmatrix indicates bundle pricing policy as the prime strengthand the application of the management information system notmaximum as the prime weakness. EFE matrix indicates qualitystrategy contributes the service as prime opportunity and thedependency on the foreign travel agencies as prime threat.Based on IE matrix, the company’s position is at five (V) levelfor resistance and endurance strategy. SWOT matrix indicateseight competitive strategic alternatives. Suggested first priorityby QSPM is to develop market segment, both overseas anddomestic market.

Abstract

As part of the cultural landscape of Bali, UNESCO World CulturalHeritage, Mengesta village in Tabanan district has a variety ofnatural and cultural potentials that can be developed as touristattractions, including agricultural and its irigation system(subak). These can be managed properly in order to get benefitsfrom tourism economy. This study analysis the development ofsustainable tourism based on subak in the Mengesta village. Theresearch applied qualitative and quantitative approaches. Thestudy shows that subak has important and strategic position soit should be preserved in line with the objective of its designationas Word Cultural Heritage. However, the benefits of subak as aWorld Cultural Heritage have not been optimally perceived by thecommunity in relation to the development of sustainable tourismin the village of Mengesta. Only a small proportion of people whoenjoy the benefits of the status of subak as World Cultural Heritagein the context of tourism development. It is hoped that both thedistrict and provincial governments help the community throughfunding and setting up regulations so that the development ofsubak as tourist attraction can be improved while keeping itssustainability.

Abstract

This study analyzes the tourist attraction management by PecatuVillage, South Kuta, Badung Regency. Through the regulation20/1994 concerning the Management and Retribution of TouristObject to manage the Uluwatu Temple outer area as a touristattraction, Badung Regency Goverment gave license to PecatuVillage to manage those attractions. The purpose of this researchis to find out the form, the obstructions and the efforts of DesaPakraman Pecatu in term of tourism attraction management.Theories utilized in this study included functionalism theory,structuration theory, and the theory of hegemony. The studyshows that tourist attraction outside area of Uluwatu Temple ismanaged directly by Desa Pakraman Pecatu, while other touristattractions managed by the community in the respected areaof the attractions. There are several obstructions that faced bymanagement of tourist attractions, such as limited of humanresources, limited of facilities, and limited of fund, lack ofmanagement regulation, inter-organizational coordination, andproperty ownership. The efforts which have been done to solvethe problem such as, the establishment of tourist attractionmanagement, the restructurization of tourist attraction, thepreparation of the management and retribution regulations, theempowerment of the society, and the improvement of interorganizationalcooperation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the participationof community members of Komodo village with regard toecotourism development in the island of Komodo, KomodoNational Park, West Manggarai Regency. For the purpose ofthe study, qualitative research method was applied with theapplication of qualitative data collection techniques, includinginterviews, observation, and documentary analysis. Specifically,the study was conducted in the village of Komodo withactive participation of 22 key informants. The results of thisstudy revealed the roles of the community of Komodo villageparticipation in ecotourism development, namely communitymembers’ participation in the program of Komodo TourismVillage of BNI (Bank Negara Indonesia), participation inecotourism business, and participation in conservation. Factorsthat affect Komodo village community participation weredivided into two main factors, such as factors that support andfactor that hinder the community participation. The result alsoindicated the positive impact of the community participation oneconomic, environment, and social and cultural.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesian tourism development is strongly supported by awide range of sectors one of which being the agricultural asa supplier of local fruits which become tourist consumptionprocessed into foods and beverages that have high sales value.This article discusses the dominant type of local fruits served inoperations of five-star hotels in Sanur tourism area, the reasonfor the hotel to serve local fruits, and the obstacles experiencedin serving them. The study used mix marketing theory andthe theory of consumer decision-making attitude. The studywas conducted by purposive sampling method with the studysites of seven star hotels in Sanur. Data were collected throughobservation, interviews, and by distributing 80 questionnairesfilled out by the hotels. The study reveals that the dominantfruits served in hotel operations are fruits that did not dependon the season and are selected based on factors including ofquality, continuity, price, serving variation, and policy wherethe dominant factor of this study was that of quality. This studyconcludes that there is a need for the cooperation betweenfarmers, suppliers, hotels and the government in maximizingthe absorption of local fruits at five-star hotels in Sanur.

Abstract

The tourism sector of Bali has developed rapidly in the last tenyears, especially when it is seen from the trend of the numbers ofdomestic and foreign tourist arrivals. This trend is accompaniedwith the increasing number of accommodation facilities. Denpasaris a region which shows the rapid growth of accommodationfacilities, such as the presence of a number of hotels in the city areawhich is often referred to as a city hotel. This study examines thefactors that cause the growth of city hotels, the impacts of the cityhotel growths on the budget hotel businesses, the competition andbusiness strategies of inter-city hotels as well as their influences onbusiness strategies of budget hotels in Denpasar City. The theoriesapplied in the study were the theory of supply and demand, theimpact theory and the theory of tourism policy. Data were collectedthrough observation and interviews with relevant tourismstakeholders. The findings show the rapid developments of the cityhotels have given negatif and positive impacts on the businesses ofthe budget hotels in Denpasar. To prevent excessive developmentof the city hotel, it is recommended to Denpasar government todevelop a needs assessment of hotel rooms and some policies suchas standard setting policies of room rates or equitable policy of thehotel developments.

Abstract

This article analyzes about the participation and communityempowerment in the management of unique and beautiful touristattraction of rice terrace in Ceking Village, Gianyar Regency. It also discuses tourists’ opinion to the tourist attraction of Ceking. The theories used in this research are the theory of participation and community management theory. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. The sampling techniques used were purposive and accidental sampling. Data were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative analysis to give an overview of community empowerment in the management of tourist attraction in the Village of Ceking of Tegallalang, the Gianyar Regency. The finding shows that people around the tourist attraction of Ceking have participated in thedevelopment of the tourist attraction. However, the community empowerment of Ceking tourist attraction has not been performedoptimally yet, because around the tourist attraction, there are twolarge communities, namely the villages of Tegallalang and Kedisan.The Kedisan community, as the owner of the rice terrace, has notbeen optimally empowered and involved in the management anddevelopment. Tourists visiting Ceking considered it an interestingtourist attraction to visit, but expressed that the infrastructureand the tourist facilities on the attraction are very poor and needimprovement.

Abstract

This article discusses the evaluation of giant effigy ogoh-ogohparade based on three aspects, such as the implementationof ogoh-ogoh parade, the contribution of ogoh-ogoh paradeto the development of cultural tourism in Denpasar and toprovide recommendations for strategy implementation of ogohogohparade. This article was used culture tourism theory andevaluation theory. The data presented in this article was collectedthrough observation and is complemented by interviews andother published sources with qualitative approach. The collecteddata analyzed by CIPP (Context, Input, Process and Product)evaluation model, expert judgment and qualitative descriptive.The result shows that parade ogoh-ogoh meet the criteria as anevent that contributes in an effort to realize Denpasar as culturalcity. Ogoh-ogoh parade also contributes as a supporting Denpasarin developing cultural tourism. The implementation strategyof ogoh-ogoh parade can be done through by the competitionstrategy and the increasing promotion strategy. From this articleit can be concluded that as one of the cultural event in Denpasarcity ogoh-ogoh parade can support the development of culturaltourism in the city of Denpasar, although in its implementation itrequires sustain improvement.

Abstract

There has been a growing tendency for villa and accommodationbusiness worldwide to use online travel agents (OTA) to promoteand sell their rooms. This research discusses the advantagesand disadvantages of the promotion and sales through OTA forvilla business in North Kuta area and analyses motivation andperception of the villa management in using OTA. The objectof the research is the villa manager, supervisors and staff whohandle the villa promotion and sales of their accommodationbusiness. Villas were chosen based on cluster proportionaland the informants were chosen based on purposive samplingtechnique. The result shows that the disadvantages in usingOTA as promotion and sales tool are rising occupancy, directpayment, and as a tool in making villa well known worldwide.The disadvantages are decrease net sales, over booking,negative comments could downgrade the villa’s rank, and OTAmake villa’s website got limited traffic. The motivation of villamanagements in using OTA is highly motivated. The dominantfactor of the perception included factors in self-perception ofthe target, factor in the self-perception., and factors perceptionof situation. This research suggests to the villa management torecruit special personnel for handling OTA as well as to manageown websites to increase the net sales.
