Abstract

Currently, in the world are trying to substitute fossil energy for renewable energy. One of the renewable energy is biomass energy. Biomass is a renewable natural resource derived from biological nature. Biomass from palm shells has been successfully used by the Tembilahan PLTU as an effort to substitute coal. The results of technical evaluation and monitoring show operating parameters within normal limits. Palm shells are known to have a lower sulfur content than coal so that the emissions produced are less than coal. When viewed from the characteristics based on the analysis of proximate, ultimate and calorific value, it shows that the characteristics of biomass from coconut waste, especially coconut shells, are not significantly different from biomass from palm shells. This means that coconut shells can be considered as a renewable energy source. To improve the quality of the calorific value of biomass, a pyrolysis process is carried out to produce bio-charcoal. Modeling using Aspen Plus software has a difference average of less than 6%. Simulation results of coconut shell pyrolysis with maximum yield of bio-charcoal occurring at an operating temperature of 600°C which produces a total of 30.35% bio-charcoal, a calorific value (LHV) of 33.03 MJ/kg, and an ash content of 18.99%. While the simulation results of coconut shell pyrolysis with maximum syngas yield occurred at an operating temperature of 800°C which produced 82.43% syngas, high H2 49.67% and low CO2 2.90%.

Abstract

Research on the activity of eugenol derived compounds as antimicrobials using the qualitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) model has been conducted. Molecular structure modeling was executed computationally using the ChemDraw Ultra 12.0 program package. Geometry optimization was performed using AM1 semi-empirical method to stabilize structure with the least energy level. Calculations of hydrophobic, electronic, and steric descriptors were done using Gaussian-09 and Marvin Sketch 64 softwares. Statistical calculations was conducted through multiple linear regression method using the IBM SPSS 25 program. Statistical analysis was carried out based on the statistical requirements of several equation models so that the best equation model was obtained. The analysis with the QSAR equation model obtained that the model 1 equation presented the best results.

Abstract

The asteroid Apophis, first discovered in 2004 by American astronomers, is known to have a dangerous potential for planet Earth. Many early studies predict that in 2029 it will experience a close encounter and have a possible collision with the Earth at the next close encounter due to keyhole gravity. This research will explain how to carry out an orbit simulation using an orbit integrator to review this possibility and the evolution of the Apophis asteroid orbit over the next 500 years. The results of this study are expected to provide an understanding of simulating asteroid orbit from its orbital parameters and to build awareness of the threat of danger from small solar system objects such as asteroids, comets, and meteoroids.

Abstract

Papua is an island with the highest flora biodiversity in the world. To date, the phytochemical content and antibacterial bioactivity of the Teijsmaniadendron holrungii plant from West Papua have never been reported. In this study, phytochemical screening and bioactivity tests of T. holrungii bark ethanol extract against E. coli and S. aureus bacteria were carried out. The results showed that T. holrungii bark ethanol extract contained alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, and tannins. The inhibitory activity of bacterial growth increased with an increase in concentrations (w/v) of 5; 10; 20; 40; and 80%, with inhibitory zones of 14.5; 17; 18; 20; and 22 mm for E. coli bacteria and 4.5; 5.5; 6; 7.5; and 9.5 mm for S. aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Formal education increasingly includes citizen science projects. There is clear evidence of the benefits of citizen science projects for science learning, where one of the goals of science education is to foster a logical mindset and add information to students. This study aimed to measure changes in scientific attitude and the addition of knowledge acquired by students. This project is named Weather-it, which consists of activities to investigate the weather and identify clouds. Thirty junior high school students were involved in this study. Research data were obtained from semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. The experts have verified the 23 statement items on the questionnaire sheet. The results showed that 77% of students were in the good category for the indicator of curiosity, 67% in the sufficient category for the indicator of respect for data, 93% for the sufficient category for the indicator of critical thinking, and 77% for the sufficient category for the indicator of open-mindedness and cooperation. Furthermore, students explained the knowledge they gained through the citizen science project, Weather-it, including knowledge about clouds, technology, the use of Microsoft Excel in processing data, the use of weather in aviation, and the duties of a meteorologist.

Abstract

Digital games have the potential to increase the effectiveness of using interactive e-modules. This development research aims to produce an interactive e-module on vibration and waves concept (IeMVWC) assisted by digital games, as well as investigate the impact of its use on student learning achievement. This development research follows the ADDIE stages (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate). The data collected in this study includes product validation data, learning achievement data, and student response data collected through validation sheets, multiple-choice questions, and questionnaires. The IeMVWC product assisted by digital games produced is declared very feasible for use in learning and effective in improving student learning achievement in vibration and wave learning.
