Universal spiritual teachings are still neglected by most Islamic scholars due to the thought that the teachings do not have a great influence to Muslims. But in reality, these teachings won the hearts of Muslims in many Islamic countries such as Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan and others. Therefore, this article attempts to describe this fact by focusing the discussion on the teachings of Universal Sufism, as one of the universal spiritual teachings that are increasingly getting attention of Muslims in particular and mankind in general. The description also involves the assessments based on the Quran as the main guide of Muslims, which is expected to establish a clear understanding of Muslims about the spiritual teachings that are justified and not justified by the Islamic Shari'a.

Basically, different types of diversity in all its forms are not something that happen because of a mistake of God. God is the One Almighty who may not do the slightest mistake. Then, can the mistake be transferred to other than God, such as the nature and human themselves? It is impossible to answer the question “yes.” Then another question we should ask is not who is mistaken for the occurrence of this diversity, but what is the wisdom behind the diversity itself. This article examines the understanding and the characteristic of the plurality of religions in Aceh. It is very important to be explored because Aceh has a mandate as a special area. The specificity includes the enactment of Islamic law and the implementation of governance set out in the Law on Governing Aceh.

Asceticism in Islam is perceived as an ascetic (zuhd), the alienation of self and soul to be more focus in practicing pure worship (ibadah mahdhah). It is not logical if asceticism in Islam is synonymous with faqir (the poor) or ju'i (hungry) or distancing oneself from the crowd and togetherness. The concentration of asceticism attempts to create goodness and virtue, physical strength, emotion and mood. Thus, the introduction of Islamic asceticism to zuhd is included in the historical iron cage, whereas contemporary Islamic asceticism should be included in iron cage of modernity. Islamic asceticism is motivated by ethos and ethics that are socio-centric, not egocentric who only wants perfection and self righteousness. The pattern of Islamic asceticism is not stagnant zuhd but moderate zuhd as the attitude that promotes excellence and achieves all lawful things by performing various contributions to social salvation. Therefore, moderate zuhd equals to productive and participatory zuhd.

Patriotism in HAMKA concept cannot be separated from knowing God as another manifestation of the love of God which is the highest love that exists in the universe, including the love that also exists between the opposite sex. According to HAMKA, this love must be sacred and to be based on devotion to God. HAMKA raises love as a common theme that characterizes Western romance in addition to other characteristics. The perspective of religion by placing religion as a source of conflict has led to various attempts to reinterpret and then find common ground at a certain level with the hope to reduce conflicts among religious communities if there is mutual tolerance. On the exoteric level, religions are different, but on the esoteric level, religions are not similar. All religions are viewed as equally valid paths to God. However, in many ways, the reality shows that the tension between the religious communities is closely related to factors that are beyond the scope of religion. This is an important matter for all religious believers to keep the peace among them.

The ideas for change can not be separated from the culture and civilization that originated from the paradigm that produces new creativities when faced with social stagnation. To solve the social problems, the sociological imagination ideas that exist and develop in the society should be incorporated so that they become a theological value system from the personal integrity of a community of nation. It is now the time for social imagination, as an idea, to be raised by an awareness to create and stimulate various changes in collective articulated discourses that deny the realities of social inequality established by the hegemony of any interests in the form of weakening the integrity of the nation in the name of the state. Theologically, for a successful and sustainable development of the nation there are six things to be considered: first, put the truth as the purpose of life. Second, the community of nations should not be restrained or restrain themselves both in thought and in social expression to the extent not contrary to the universal values. Third, justice must be incorporated into all aspects of society. Fourth, education must be provided to everyone. Fifth, critical thinking must be nurtured to respond to everything that goes into the community of nation both from within and from outside. And the last is the consistency and sincerity, dependability and sustainability of the five points mentioned above.

The presence of religion, especially the religions of mission, in human life has established a separate civilization characteristics which can lead to a clash of civilization which is assumed in the form of inter-group conflict of civilizations. The clash believed to be a necessity is mainly triggered by modernity which in the end led to the secularization. The above assumptions initiated by Huntington still can be criticized for several reasons. However, the tolerance between civilizations should be implemented. In this regard, multiculturalism as the willingness to accept other groups equally as an entity regardless of cultural differences, ethnicity, gender, language, religion or country becomes important to be discussed. Likewise, vertical and horizontal dialogue should be the most essential way to cultivate harmonious life among all religious people.
