Abstract

Science Faculty of state Islamic University Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. The objective of the research was to find the growth and yield of several mungbean varieties in peat media. The experimental design used was randomized complete block design with 15 varieties (Bhakti, Gelatik, Kenari, Kutilang, Betet, Merak, Merpati, Camar, No.129, Nuri, Parkit, Perkutut, Sampeong, Sriti, and Walet), and 3 replications. The variables observed were number days to flower and to harvest, plant height, plant dry weight, number of pods/plant, number of seeds/pod, weight of 100 seeds, and grain yield. Results of the research showed that Gelatik and Kenari varieties flowered faster that the other varieties. Sampeong varieties was the tallest plant at harvest. Different varieties caused different number of pods/plant, weight of 100 seeds and grain yield. However, number of seeds/pod was the same among varieties. Grain yield of No.129 was the lowest among the varieties. From the result of weight of 100 seeds and grain yield its was conducded that seven varieties (Bhakti, Kutilang, Betet, Nuri, Parkit, Perkutut, dan Sampeong) could be planted in peat media.

Abstract

Application of Benzyl Amino purine (BAP) to Adenium (Adenium obesum) explants in vitro was conducted at the laboratory of Biotechnology, Faculty Agriculture Islamic University of Riau. This research aims to examine the response of 2 (two) sources of explants material Adenium plant (Adenium obesum). The Completely Randomized Design was used under factorial, consisting two factors: the first factor is the use of explants with two treatment levels, namely: E1 = the use of adenium stem explants and E2 = the use of adenium shoot tip explants. The second factor is the BAP with four treatment levels, namely: B0 = Without BAP (control), B1 = BAP concentrations of 0.1 mg / l, B2 = BAP concentrations of 1.0 mg / l, B3 = BAP concentrations of 10 mg / l. The results show that the treatment had no a significant effect of interaction, but the treatment E2B2 BAP (bud explants with BAP 1 mg /l) showed the highest response to the growth of explants compared to other treatment interactions. The BAP alone on adenium explant response, especially in treatment B2 (BAP 1 mg / l medium). Best explant types obtained were derived from the shoot tip, showing significant effect on the percentage of shoots formation.

Abstract

This study was conducted from July to October 2011 in the green house of Genetics and Breeding Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science of State Islamic University Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. The research objective was to observe growth in cuttings up to the growth of buds on each of the growing medium with various concentrations of BAP. This research used randomized complek block design (RCBD) Factorial: the first factor two different growing media (sand and soil) while the second factor was four level BAP concentrations (0, 200, 300, 400 ppm) with three replication. Variables analyzed were the survival percentage, the percentage of shoots growth, while emerging shoots, shoot length, number of leaf and number of roots. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance. The results showed that different of growing media significantly influenced the survival percentage and number of root cuttings JC media lime leaves that soil media more than sand, but BAP concentration and interaction between the growing medium and BAP concentration did not affect significantly the survival percentage and number of roots.

Abstract

Research was conducted from August until October 2011 at Agronomy Laboratory and research farm of Agriculture and Animal Science Faculty of State Islamic University Sultan Syaif Kasim Riau. Triploid watermelon of F1 Riendow was used in this experiment. The experimental design used was Completely Randomized Design arranged in factorial between alteration seed coats (with and without clipping the seed coat) and 4 different times of soaking with Atonik (0, 30,60 and 90 minutes) with 3 replications for germination experiment and soaking with Atonik (0, 30, 60 dan 90 minutes) with 6 replications for plant growth experiment. The research was conducted in the pot with peat soil. Result of the research showed that seed germination with clipping the seed coat (64.54%) was higher than without clipping the seed coat (38.28%). There was no interaction between alteration of the seed and soaking time. Soaking time with Atonik did not affect seed germination and also the growth of the plants (stem length, number of leaves, plant and root dry weight) at 55 days after planting.

Abstract

Organic farming is a natural farming in practice trying to avoid the use of chemicals and fertilizers that are poisoning the environment. Organic fertilizer from manure (cow, buffalo, goats, chickens, ducks) and agricultural waste (leaves, straw, corn stalks and husks) (Anonemus, 2004). Mustari, K (2004), plant wastes can be used as fertilizer bokasi by mixing the waste with Effective Micro-organism-4 ( EM4 ) . The study aims to determine the effect of dose and type of organic fertilizer in a single interaction and the Sweet Corn Crop. This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD), factorial with treatments as follows; dose of organic fertilizer that consists of 4 (four) D1. ¼ sacks doses or 200 grams each plot, D2. ½ sacks doses or 400 grams bokasi each plot, D3. ¾ sacks doses or 600 grams bokasi each plot, D4. doses or 800 grams 1.0 sacks bokasi each plot and type of organic fertilizer consisting of J1. cow manure, J2. goat manure, J3. chicken manure and J4. Bokasi fertilizer. Parameters were observed among other stem diameter (cm), leaf area and length of cob (cm). From these results it can be concluded that the best treatment is D2J4 namely; bokasi doses of 400 grams per plot, with the cob diameter 1.8 cm, 6354.14 cm2 leaf area and length of 20.73 cm cob without cornhusk.

Abstract

Forest of the UIN SUSKA Riau was harboring most of the genetic resources, one of them is pitcher plants (Nepenthes spp). Pitcher plants have high economic value because of they were ornamental and medicinal plants. This research aims to determine population density, diversity index, evenness index and dominance index of Nepenthes in the campus forest of UIN SUSKA Riau. This research used method was purposive sampling with square Jalur method. The result of this study found two species of Nepenthes in the campus of UIN SUSKA Riau, namely Nepenthes gracillis and Nepenthes ampularia. The average of population density of Nepenthes gracillis and Nepenthes ampularia were 2000 individuals/ha and 200 individuals/ha, respectively. The Diversity index of Nepenthes in this study was low (H’ <1), while average of evenness index (E) of Nepenthes was 0.352.
