Abstract

This research aims at knowing the making of natural acid-base indicatorfrom jackfruit sawdust, the use of acid-base indicator from the jackfruit sawdust,the color change shown by acid-base indicator from jackfruit sawdust, and knowingthe pH trayek on the acid-base indicator from jackfruit sawdust.This research was conducted in Chemistry-physic laboratory on July 2008.The research method involved the making of acid-base indicator from jackfruitsawdust and the making of pH trayek.The result of the research shows that (1) acetone solvent can produce abetter indicator than alcohol one; (2) acid-base indicator can differentiate solutionfrom pH 7 to pH 10, pH 11, dan pH 12; (3) the higher pH the darker the browncolor; (4) pH trayek which is produced from the indicator of jackfruit sawdust isfrom light brown to dark brown.Key words: pH indicator, jackfruit, morin

Abstract

This research is intended to increase English speaking ability in learningEnglish for the VII grade student of MTs YAPI Pakem Sleman Yogyakarta.The subject of this research is 42 VII grade students of M.Ts. YAPI PakemSleman Yogyakarta. This research is focused on the implementation of learningspeaking English through English magazine with two siclus, each of the siclusconsist of four steps those are plans, implementation, reflection, and evaluation.The data was taked through observation, field note, interview, questioner,documentation, and speaking test in every siclus. The data was analised bykualitatif and kuantitatif methods. The success of this research is based on thegood changes among teacher or students with two criteria those are process andproduct qualities.The increase of English speaking ability through English Magazine forthe VII grade students of MTs YAPI Pakem Sleman Yogyakarta was done byusing English magazine as innovative learning media. Student used Englishmagazine to look for new vocabularies then applied it in speaking after thatstudents developed the new vocabularies to be used in daily conversation. Theused of english magazine was done in teams and discussion. The evaluation wasdone also in teams. Teacher and student's positive respons was got after usingEnglish magazine as speaking English learning media. Learning speakingEnglish through English magazine is exciting for the students and it madestudents became more active in learning English. So, learning speaking Englishthrough English magazine as supporting media can increase the ability ofspeaking English for the VII grade of MTs YAPI Pakem Sleman Yogyakarta.Key words : speaking, English, English magazine

Abstract

This research aims at 1) designing an indicator device, 2) making anindicator device, 3) knowing the work of an indicator device of the safedistance of minimum visual range toward monitor using microcontroller AT89S51- based ultrasonic censor. It is hoped that this device can help the userof monitor in determining the safe distance of minimum visual range towardthe monitor. Thus, it can reduce the radiation risk.This research employed experimental-quantitative method, in whichthe researcher took part in the making and testing of the device. The basicconcept of the device design is stringing up some electronical componentswhich their works are interdependent in displaying the distance between theuser and the monitor. Starting from the distance detection, data processing,and data display, all will be assembled and work sinergically. The steps of thedevice making consist of two steps, they are the making of hardware andsoftware.Based on the steps of the program, it is found an indicator device ofminimum visual range toward monitor and a portable device. This device canhelp the user of monitor in determining the safe distance of minimum visualrange toward monitor.Key Word: indicator device, safe distance

Abstract

The school-based curriculum (KTSP) enables the schools to developthe available resource based on the school condition. As a result, the schoolsare provided authority in deciding the minimum mastery criteria. Theminimum mastery criteria applied in SD I Panjangrejo to science subject is65. In fact, the learning output for students Grade V is below this criteria.One of the reasons is that the teachers often use lecturing method. Thismakes the students passive and tend to keep silent. To overcome thisproblem, the reseacher applied Cooperative Learning by using Jigsaw.The aim of this research is to improve the learning output andstudents’ participation in the teaching and learning process in the class. Thisaction research used Kemmis and Mc. Taggart model. The subject of theresearch was students of SD I Panjangrejo Grade V. The change andimprovement of the treatment were monitored by using test and observation.This research employed descriptive-qualitative method.The result of the research shows the improvement of learning output,that is 63.6 before the treatment and 76.2 after getting the treatment in thefirst cycle and 81.2 in the second cycle. It means that the students havereached the minimum mastery criteria. In addition, the students’sparticipation increases from the highest criteria, 69% in the first cyclebecomes 91% in the second cycle. The medium criteria, 25% in the first cyclebecomes 9% in the second cycle, and the lowest criteria, 6%, in the first cyclebecomes 0% in the second cycle.Key word: Cooperative Learning, action research, Jigsaw technique,minimum mastery criteria

Abstract

Kyai Remeng Puppets are a part of beber puppets in Orchard GelaranII, Bejiharjo Countryside, Karang Mojo Subdistrict, Gunung Kidul. This storytells about the incognition of pennon Asamara Bangun as Kyai RemengMangunjaya.This article analyzes the symbolic meaning and historical value oftotally dissapeared puppets. The symbolic aspects which are analyzed in thisresearch cover the activity done by the one who has the intention, role aspuppets, gamelan drummer, and sinden (woman singer with gamelanorchestra).The historical value in this story covers the comparative study of KyaiRemeng Beber Puppets in the past and in the present time. Abstract

The aim of this research is to design an automatic scoring system in thetaekwondo champion.This research employed the model of waterfall cycle, that is (a) analysis; (b)designing module; (c) coding; (d) technique of experiment; (e) experiment of thedevice. This system is designed from the hardwares, namely, transmitter circuit,circuit, system of minimum microcontroller AT89S51, circuit of seven-segmendriver, circuit of micro switch and component of software; program writing usingnotepad, compilling program suing matrix exe, and downloading program usingaec.isp.The result of this research is the prototype of a scoring system of taekwondochampion. This system can show score in the display as the data are transmittedby transmitter and received by receiver. The output of the receiver is voltage3.8V- 4v used to trigger transistor which functions as the input microcontroller.The input data from the receiver will be procceeded by microcontroller and theoutput microcontroller will be displayed by microcontroller. The overall resultsare (a) radius of radio waves reaches 10 meters, (b) the device of automatic scoringsystem of taekwondo champion can show the result after being accumulated asreal time; (c) it is supplemented with penalty knop.Key Words: Taekwondo, scoring system

Abstract

This research is aimed at describing the improvement of the ability in writingpoem for students of SMPN I Grade VIII Sleman Yogyakarta in the learning ofIndonesian language and culture through the implementation of cooperative learningmodel of round table type.The subjects of the research were students of SMPN 1 Grade VIII SlemanYogyakarta in the academic year 2007/2008. This is a classroom action research. Theprocess of conducting this research was divided into two cycles. In these two cycles, theimplementation of cooperative learning model was applied twice. This research appliedunstructured observation, meaning that observation was not limited in certainframework. In the reflection phase, the researcher and collaborator tried to understandthe process, problem, and obstacle during the treatment. The techniques of collectingdata were test, questionnaire, interview, observation, and documentation of learningactivity. Meanwhile, the analysis of the data was done by employing a descriptive –qualitative and descriptive statistic technique.The result of the research shows that the use of cooperative learning model ofround table type can improve the students’ ability in writing poems.The students’scompetence before getting the treatment is in fair category. It can be seen from the pretest,that is 4.18. However, after they are given treatments twice, the students’ abilityimprove. It is shown by the score in the second cycle. From this result, it can beconcluded that there is an improvement on the students’ ability in writing poem for 2.32point.Key words: round table type, writing poem, cooperative learning

Abstract

This research aims at knowing the benefit of DTMF in reporting theinfus condition. To show if infus runs out, DTMF uses the frequencyinformation. Then, the frequency will be modulated to be emitted. Thedesign system is like radio or tv transmitter. The patient room will be thetransmitter of the infus condition and the monitor room is as the informationreceiver, in which the data are frequency information. In the receiver, thefrequency codes are tranferred into binary codes. Those codes are proceededas appearance showing the infus number.The utilization design of DTMF can be used in hospital. This device iseffective in the condition that infus is motionless since it uses spring censor.The spring must be the best quality one. The censor will be active when infusis 20cc.This research has not been completed since there are failures. It isdesigned to continue the research on the utilization of DTMF. The success ofthis research will be continued with the application of this research inhospital.Key words: DTMF, The utilization of DTMF

Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out the way to make proper compositionin making Braille ink using bamboo extract as an alternative basic material, toknow the quality of Braille ink using bamboo extract and to know the effectivenessof Braille ink made from bamboo extract to assist blind people in reading Brailleor Arabic letter like the normal one.This research belongs to an experimental research. The population of thisresearch was China ink. "Tinta Bak", a China ink, was chosen as the sample ofthe supplementary material of making Braille ink in which bamboo extract wasthe main material. The free variables of this research were bamboo extract content,alcohol and some other needed supplementary materials. The bound variableswere the proper composition of the ink and the test result of its use. Theinstruments used in this research were scale, cup, mixer, blender, graduatedglass, test-tube, Erlenmeyer tube, bunsen and dripped pipette. The materialsused in this research were China ink, bamboo extract, alcohol, glycerine, Arabicgom, and aquades. The data were the result of experiment on the compatibilityof ink content and the result of its use. Then, they were analyzed to know thecomposition of ink and the best use and the quality of Braille ink using bambooextract as the basic materials.The result of the research shows that the mixture among Arabic gom,glycerine, aquades, china ink and bamboo extract can be used to make a goodquality of Braille ink. The ideal Braille ink can be produced if it fulfils somecharacteristics, namely, having enough thick consistency; not dry soon, andhaving appearing effect, thus it can touched with fingers.Key words: Braille ink, bamboo extract
