Abstract

The effect of the distance between electrodes, in interdigitated pattern of Printed Circuit Board (PCB), on the resistance of zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) thin film have been done by measuring film resistance before and after ozone exposure. Interdigitated pattern of PCB was formed from copper layer by using FeCl3 10% as an etchant, with two various distance between electrodes i.e 0,3 mm and 0,7 mm. The thin film of ZnPc was deposited on the interdigitated electrode of PCB by using vacuum evaporation method, then, annealed at temperature 100ºC for 5h. The resistance of ZnPc thin film was measured before and after ozone exposure for 1h. The results show that the resistance of ZnPc thin film that deposited on PCB with the distance between electrodes 0,3 mm is 50% lower than in 0,7 mm, and, show the higher of the film conductivity. The higher of the film conductivity is caused by the larger of copper electrode surface that have conductive properties, on the PCB with smaller of the distance between electrodes.

Abstract

Sterculia quadrifida R.Br. is known with the name of Faloak. It is a plant whose bark has been containing several natural antioxidant compounds. Research shows that antioxidant compounds of Faloak extract can reduce free radicals content in liver organ of nila fish (Oreochromis niloticus) that is contamined by metals such as Pb, Cd and Hg. The concentration of metals is directly proportional with free radicals content of the organ, but free radicals content is inversely proportional with the concentration of faloak extract. Result of research indicates that faloak concentration of 16,00mg/mL is the most effective concentration in reducing free radicals content in liver organ of nila fish. Type and content of free radicals in the organ are identified with Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) test.

Abstract

Ni/MgO catalyst has been designed as bifunctional catalyst for condensation reaction of furfural and acetone followed by hydrogenation reaction to produce C8-C13 alkane derivatives in one step reaction. Ni/MgO catalyst was prepared by wet impregnation methods using Ni(NO3)2.6H2O and MgO as supporting material. The charcterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed the characteristic of Ni on 2q = 44,27o; 51,59o and 75,89o. Isoterm adsorpsi using N2 gas gave the decreasing surface area of MgO and forming microporous structure. The activity test of the catalyst was carried out using furfural and acetone (1:1) in autoclave bath system, heated at 100-180oC for 7-8 hours in the presence of water. Ni/MgO catalyst showed the good activity when hydrogenation reaction performed at 150oC lead to the conversion of alkane derivatives in 95.69%. Characterization of the product by GC-MS showed the formation of 4-(2-furanyl)-2-butanone; 1,5-di(2-furanyl)-3-pentanone and 1,5-di(2-furanyl)-3-(1-pentenone) from reduction of C=C alkene of furfurylidene acetone.

Abstract

Gamma radiation can causes cells damage, because the interaction between radiations with cells can produce free radical. The compound that can neutralize and catch free radical is called antioxidant. The objectives of this research were to analyze influence of gamma radiation and Curcuma xanthorrhiza extract to the SGPT level to the mice’s liver. This research uses eighty mices and they were divided into three group, negative control (K-), radiation non extract (R-) and extract plus radiation (R+). The doses of treatment of Curcuma xanthorrhiza extract are 1.4 gr/kg body weight; 2.0 gr/kg body weight; 2.6 gr/kg body weight; 3,2 gr/kg body weight and 3.8 gr/kg body weight, while the exposure of gamma radiation are given during 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 40 minutes and 50 minutes. The measuring of SGPT level in mice’s serum is done by using blood analyzer. The results showed that free radical can damages liver cells and breaks cell wall, so SGPT level in blood to be high. In a row of increasing of Curcuma xanthorrhiza extract dose, then SGPT level to be low.

Abstract

In this study, polystyrene-based monolith was developed as reversed phase column in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for separation of small molecule sample (alkylbenzene). Polystyrene-based monolithic column was prepared in microbore silicosteel column (100 x 1.02 mm i.d.) by in-situ polymerization reaction using styrene as monomer, divinylbenzene as crosslinker, porogenic solvents, with the presence of radical initiator 2,2’-azobis(isobutyronitrile). The morphology of the monolithic column was studied by SEM. The properties of the monolithic column, such as permeability, mechanical stability, binding capacity and pore size distribution, were characterized in detail. From the characterization results of 9 monolith variation, monolith PS-DVB with %T 30, %C 50, using toluene:1-decanol (3:7 v/v) as porogenic solvent was found to be the ideal composition and gave the best separation of alkylbenzene. It has theoretical plate value (N) of 17260/m column, also has relatively equal proportion of flow-through pore and mesopores (47% and 44% respectively). The performance of monolithic column was also compared with commercially available monolithic column Proswift RP-4H. PS-DVB monolith prepared in this study shown its superiority over commercial one.

Abstract

Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate (LAS) is the main constituent of the detergent active ingredients. Some negative effects may be appear if this compound enters the aquatic environment with high concentration. In this study, the adsorption of LAS on chicken eggshell powder was studied in different contact time, pH, and initial LAS concentration. The adsorption isotherm pattern was also investigated in two different models i.e. Langmuir and Freundlich. Eggshell powder was characterized using FTIR, XRD, and Surface Area Analyzer prior to adsorption test. The maximum amount of LAS adsorbed on eggshell powder was achieved at contact time of 45 minutes, pH of 7, and initial LAS concentration of 75 mg/L. LAS adsorption on eggshell powder was found to follow the Langmuir isotherm adsorption with the adsorption capacity (b) of 1.6218 mol/g, adsorption constant (K) of 6.1660 x 104 L/mol, and the adsorption energy (ΔG° ads) of 27.78 kJ/mol.
