Abstract

The primary aim of this study is to provide an in-depth exploration of the critical thinking abilities exhibited by students when they are confronted with problem-solving tasks involving contextual matrices within the domain of Tourism Travel Planning and Management. To achieve this objective, the qualitative descriptive method is employed, involving a cohort of 30 students from the XI grade of Dirgantara Putra Bangsa Vocational High School as the research participants. The research methodology encompasses the utilization of research tools, including critical thinking skills assessment sheets and interview guidelines. The analysis of the gathered data reveals significant insights: 1) the focus indicator highlights a critical thinking ability percentage of 43.33%; 2) the reason indicator showcases a percentage of 35.00%; 3) the inference indicator indicates a percentage of 46.66%; 4) the situation indicator demonstrates a percentage of 61.11%; 5) the clarity indicator registers a percentage of 40.83%; and 6) the overview indicator presents a percentage of 31.66%. In summary, the average percentage of students' critical thinking skills is calculated to be 43.09%, placing it within the low-level category.

Abstract

Mental behavior is the activities that occur in a person's mind when solving mathematical problems. These activities are important to explore in problem solving, but exploration of activities is still rarely done by lecturers. This study aims to describe mental activities in solving mathematical problems of students who have high mathematical abilities and field independent (FI) and field dependent (FD) cognitive styles. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with the subjects of the study being mathematics education students at Syiah Kuala University in the 2023 academic year. Data collection techniques were carried out using problem-solving tests and interviews. Data analysis was carried out by data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity was carried out by time triangulation. The results of the analysis obtained mental activities in problem solving displayed by students with high mathematical abilities and FI cognitive styles were more complete than students with FD cognitive styles in the activities of reading questions, understanding questions, linking information and explaining solutions, but the mental activities displayed by FI were the same as FD at the calculation and manipulation stages. Therefore, it is necessary to provide experience to FD students to

Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyze the numeracy literacy abilities of junior high school students in solving AKM model questions on number content. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects studied were 36 students in class VII-G of SMP Negeri 7 Serang City who had received material on whole numbers and fractions. The research instrument used was the AKM model questions consisting of three descriptive questions which had been adjusted to the numeracy literacy indicators. The written test results were analyzed based on numeracy literacy indicators and then strengthened by the results of student interviews. The research results show that students' numeracy literacy skills in solving AKM model questions on number content are still not good. Because students are unable to meet the three numeracy literacy indicators. Students' numeracy literacy abilities are predominantly in the medium category. In solving AKM model questions on number content, students with high and moderate abilities experienced calculation errors in the results of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Students with low abilities have difficulty determining solution strategies and understanding the concept of arithmetic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division on whole numbers and fractions as well as in calculating discounts.
