Abstract

ABSTRACT  Polymer has many applications in human life, one of them is in the field of health. Polymer synthetics like polylactic acid (PLA), polyglycolic acid (PGA), poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL), and poly(lactic acid-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) were kind of polyesters that is many used in field   of health. Many researchers have already made research about degradation of PLA, PGA, PCL, and PLGA. However, there is no one doing research about degradation of combination between this two polymers, one of them is polyblend of  PLGA and PCL. Polyblend were made of four compositions, that were PLGA(90:10):PCL 3:1, PLGA(75:25):PCL 3:1, PLGA(90:10):PCL 5:1, and PLGA(75:25):PCL 5:1. Degradation was carried out for eight weeks by using phosphate buffer pH 7.4 and incubation temperature of 37°C. Degradation of the polymer was observed by mass remained, and intrinsic viscosity. The result showed that composition PLGA(75:25):PCL 5:1 was the fastest in degradation compared to other compositions. It was showed by the decrease in mass until 89.06% and the change in intrinsic viscosity until 20.13%. Keywords: PLGA, PCL

Abstract

ABSTRACTComposite catalyst ZnO/Activated Carbon (ZnO/AC) had been synthesized successfully bysolid state method. Synthesis was done by varying the addition of activated carbon (AC) 2%,5%, and 10% ZnO mass. Composite catalyst were calcinated at 400oC and characterized byFTIR (Fourier Transform Infra Red), XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), SEM (Scanning ElectronMicroscopy). Based on the results of FTIR, absorption appeared in the region wave number1400-1600 cm-1, which indicated stretching of C=C was assumed come from AC. From theXRD results, it was known by the addition of AC, not overly change the crystallinity and crystalsize of ZnO, the crystal structure is hexagonal (wurtzite). SEM images showed AC preventedthe agglomeration of ZnO that would expand the surface area of ZnO and increased catalyticactivity of ZnO. For the results of the catalytic activity test, catalyst ZnO/AC was tested on thedegradation of Rhodamine B solution (10 ppm) by UV light irradiation, where the increasingnumber of trains the catalytic ability of ZnO also increased, it could be concluded that activatedcarbon can support to increase the role of ZnO in degrading Rhodamine B.Keywords: composite catalyst, ZnO, activated carbon, solid state, Rhodamine B

Abstract

ABSTRACT Poly (D,L-lactide acid) has been used as scaffold for tissue engineering. In this study, PDLLA microparticles were made into porous microparticles. Porous microparticles were proposed to reduce burst release of protein and to prevent diffusion of released protein into non-target tissue. Formulation of porous microparticles was made by water-oil-water (W1/O/W2) emulsification-solvent evaporation using gas foamed as porogen. Variations of the amount of sodium bicarbonate, volume of citric acid solution and time for homogenization were optimized to produce optimum formulation. Evaluation for this microparticles included morphology of particles, particle size distribution and porosity. Porous microparticle produced by ratio volume of acid : dichloromethane : poly(vynil alcohol) (PVA) = 1:3:3 and the ratio of  sodium bicarbonate : PDLLA = 2:3 was the optimum formulation.  Keywords :Porous Microparticles, PDLLA,Gas Foamed, Scaffold, Solvent Evaporation

Abstract

ABSTRACT A research to study the electronic and chemical characteristics of Copper which nano structure using PM3 program has been done. This program part of HyperChem pro 6.0 that performed by Pentium 4. This research has nano 2D and 3D structure (atom number 2-30). Results of computations showed that Copper can make nanosheets, nanorods and nanotubes structure that have the different electronic characteristics from its crystals structure. Fortunately, copper with nano structure could develop as insulator and semiconductor materials. Keywords : Copper, nano structure, nanosheets, nanorods, nanotubes.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe reaction of o-xylene with benzoic anhydride has been studied by the changing molar ratio of the reactants (20:1, 10:1, and 5:1) in a batch reactor under reaction temperature 120oC. The reaction carried out without catalyst and also with catalyst Zeolite beta which was activated at 300oC overnight. HPLC analysis results showed that the yield of the product increase with the changing molar ratio of the reactants. An attempt was made in determining the kinetics of the reaction. The results show that the reaction is neither first nor second order in the acylating agent. Obtaining the reaction order even initially is unsuitable for even simple reactions that do not go to completion. It is even less applicable where more than a single process which affects the rate is taking place right from the start. These might be any one or combination of diffusion, adsorption, desorption, inhibition of the reaction by the product and multi step reactions on the surface. Postulated reaction mechanisms may be required in combination with experimental data to determine even initial reaction orders. Key words: o-xylene, catalyst, kinetics, reaction order.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Bulk liquid membrane methode have been used to study transport  of  Cu(II) ion containing oxine as carrier. It was found that total Cu(II) ion 20 ppm was transported from source phase to receiving phase after 360 min reached 97.3 % in optimum conditions source phase pH is 3, oxine concentration as carier in membrane phase is 17.5 x 10-4 M, membrane volume is 20 mL, sulfur acid concentration in receiving phase 0.15 M and time of balance is 15 minute. Thus a pH gradient is utilized to drive the Cu(II) transport.

Abstract

Vol 7 No 2ABSTRACTIn this research, cellulose from waste leaves are conversed into ethanol by SSF technologyusing cellulase from Trichoderma viride strain T1 sk. In saccharification process, cellulasebreaks cellulase polymer into glucose. Simultaneously, the formed glucose is conversed intoethanol by invertase produced by Saccharomyces cerevisiaewhich is grew on YPD medium.Waste leaves are pretreatmented using basic solutions : basic NaOH 1 %, NH4OH 8 %, NaOH 1% + NH4OH 4 % and NaOH 1 % + NH4OH 8 % with ratio of solid mather (sample) : liquid(basic solution) 1:10 (w/v) with volume of basic solution 100 mL. Immersion time is variatedfor 24, 48 and 72 hours on 500C. The result of research shows that the use of NaOH 1% +NH4OH 4% gives the highest glucose concentration 933,75 μg/mL with immersion time for 72hours on 500C. After being pretreatmented, sample of 0,4 g waste leaves produce the highestglucose concentration. Measurement by GC/MS shows ethanol concentration 62,41% onfermentation time 96 hours with volume of ethanol 2,45 mL for 0,4 g sample. Keywords : Waste leaves, Pretreatment, Trichoderma viride strain T1 sk, SSF, Bioethanol
