Abstract

Studies of Islamic communication today have predominantly focused on issues of authority, media, and da‘wah, while scholarly attention to Islamic communication within public spaces remains limited, including tourism sites as spaces that reveal Muslim interaction and identity. This study employs a qualitative method based on visual observation and documentation of social activities taking place in the tourism area. The findings show that Puncak Wakila functions as an informal Islamic public sphere characterized by collective social interaction, visible expressions of Muslim identity, and communication practices embedded in everyday public life. This tourism area serves not only as a recreational destination but also as a social space in which religious identity gains meaning through public interaction and participation.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the increasing use of social media for tourism promotion in the digital era. Puncak Steling Tourism in Samarinda uses Instagram as a digital branding platform to introduce the destination to a wider public. This study employs a qualitative approach based on Chris Heuer’s 4C Social Media Theory. Abstract

Environmental problems in North Sulawesi show that there is a gap between the ideals of religious teachings on nature conservation and the reality of social practices that are still exploitative. The research uses a qualitative approach with in-depth interview techniques, observation, and analysis of related media content. The results of the study show that Islamic communication strategies based on theological values such as wisdom, justice, and trust have significant potential in shaping environmental ethics and ecological responsibility. This study confirms that the integration of ecotheology and Islamic Communication is not only normatively relevant, but also strategic as an analytical framework in responding to environmental crises.

The fragmentation of da'wah in the digital space shows that normative and moralistic approaches alone are not enough to explain the complexity of the issue of religious moderation, especially when da'wah is confronted with radicalism, hate speech, and religious disinformation. Through a qualitative approach, Maqāṣid al-syarī'ah as a framework of analysis in rereading da'wah today. The findings of the study are maqāṣid al-syarī'ah being a theoretical perspective that explains the relationship between da'wah, religious moderation, and social challenges. Abstract

This research was initiated due to the rapid development of information technology that has influenced religious activities, including mosque-based da’wah. The Hubbul Wathan Grand Mosque in West Nusa Tenggara is an example of a religious institution that has been able to adapt to digitalization. Using a qualitative approach, this study analyzes the transformation of traditional da’wah into digital da’wah using Everett M. Rogers' Innovation Diffusion theory. The results of the study show that the process of da'wah transformation takes place gradually, starting from collective consciousness to the publication of digital-based da'wah. Digital da'wah has been proven to expand the reach of the congregation, increase religious interaction, and strengthen the image of the mosque as a center for modern Islamic da'wah. This study recommends increasing the digital capacity of mosque administrators and policy support that encourages the digitization of da'wah.

Abstract

This study explains the form of acculturation of Islamic values in the Barong Ider Bumi tradition in Kemiren Village, Banyuwangi. The Barong tradition was initially strong with animistic values, but Islam is dialectic which makes this tradition undergo an adjustment in meaning and value. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. The results of the research show that the acculturation of Islamic values in the Barong tradition can be seen in its rituals with Islamic nuances, the transformation of the meaning of earth alms as a pious deed, and Barong as a mystical symbol to be religious. The values of cultural da'wah are manifested through the involvement of religious leaders in directing the spirituality of the community to remain in accordance with the teachings of monotheism.

Abstract

This study explores the transformation of da'wah at Al-Ishlah Mosque in Purwokerto, starting from the crucial issue of the potential discontinuity of traditional da'wah due to digital disruption and generational preference gaps. The objective is to examine how the mosque maintains the continuity of offline da'wah while innovating digitally. Using a qualitative case study with analysis of the Theory of Innovation Diffusion and Media Ecology, the adoption of an adaptive hybrid da'wah model was found. Offline da'wah is maintained as the foundation for conventional congregations, while YouTube embraces the younger generation through visual content. This integration creates hybrid energy that expands reach without eroding tradition. Theoretically, this study offers a framework for cross-generational collaboration and responsive religious institutional innovation.

Abstract

This study analyzes the construction of Islamic ecological da'wah in extractive capitalism and highlights the limitations of the critical literature in linking ecological da'wah to global economic structures. The research method used Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The results of the study show that ecological da'wah is constructed through Islamic values, environmental ethics, and conservation practices that emphasize changes in human consciousness and behavior. There has been a shift in research focus from an anthropocentric approach to eco-theology and environmental conservation. Most ecological da'wah discourses still operate on a cultural and spiritual level, without explicitly challenging the logic and structure of extractive capitalism as the main cause of environmental degradation.
