Abstract

This study aims to improve the understanding of Mathematics concepts through Geoboard learning media for students with visual disabilities at the SLB-A Karya Murni Education Foundation. This research was conducted at Yayasan Pendidikan SLB-A Karya Murni, which is one of the Junior High Schools (SMP) for students with visual disabilities in Medan City, North Sumatra. In this study using the type of R&D research refers to the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The subjects in this study were seventh grade students of the SLB-A Karya Murni Education Foundation in the 2023/2024 academic year. The product draft in this study has been designed and then validated by 2 experts, namely Material Experts and Media Experts. The results of the initial stage validity test by material experts obtained an average percentage of 46.15% (Less Feasible), Stage two validity test by material experts obtained an average percentage of 88.46% (Very feasible), Stage one validity test by media experts obtained an average percentage of 47.5% (Less feasible), and Stage two validity test by media experts obtained an average percentage of 91.25% (Very Feasible). Understanding of concepts in mathematics learning is obtained from learning activities on flat building material, the results of which are effective assessment with a significant increase in learning outcomes with the category of Nominalised Gain index 0.67 <0.7 classified as (Moderate). This research produces a product in the form of learning media in the form of Geoboard. The Geoboard is feasible to use judging from the percentage obtained in each manufacturing process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze: (1) The differences in mathematical problem-solving abilities of students taught with the PMR approach based on the local wisdom of the Simalungun ethnic group and the conventional approach; (2) The interaction between the learning approach and KAM on students' problem-solving abilities. This study is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental method. The population in this study were all students of Tunas Harapan Private Middle School in the 2023/2024 Academic Year, totaling 200 people. The sampling technique for this study used a purposive sampling technique by selecting classes VIII-1 and VIII-2 as samples to be studied, totaling 50 people. The instruments used in this study were descriptive tests and questionnaires. The test was carried out with Two-Way ANOVA. The results of the study showed that (1) The problem-solving abilities of students in the PMR approach class based on the local wisdom of the Simalungun ethnic group were better than those in the ordinary learning approach class; (2) There was no interaction between the learning approach and initial mathematical abilities (high, medium, and low) on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to see the effectiveness of developing a discovery learning model in improving students' mathematical reasoning abilities. The research population was all class VIII at SMPN 7 Rambah Samo. The research sample was classes VIII A and VIII B with 60 students. The data collection technique used is the test technique. The results of data processing were carried out with the help of the SPSS application. The normality test obtained sig. control class 0.200 and sig. experimental class 0.56. The control and experimental classes have sig. > 0.05 means that both classes have normal distribution. The homogeneity test obtained sig. 0.289 > 0.05 means that both classes have homogeneous variance. Next, an anova test was carried out with a significance level of 5%. The type of anova used is one way anova. The anova test results obtained sig. 0,000 < 5%. This means that there are differences in the effectiveness of developing discovery learning models to improve students' mathematical reasoning abilities. So, it can be concluded that the learning process using the discovery learning model is more effective in improving students' mathematical reasoning abilities than the learning process using a scientific approach.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the REACT strategy effectively enhances students’ mathematical reasoning based on their interest in learning, specifically for students in class X at SMA Negeri 1 Asparaga. The study employed a quasi-experimental with a 2 × 2 treatment-by-level design, analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test. The findings are as follows: (1) The REACT strategy is more effective than conventional teaching methods in enhancing students’ interest in learning (Fcount = 27.230 > Ftable = 4.105) and average scores of 44.79 & 34.52; (2) There is a significant interaction between the teaching model and students’ interest in learning on their mathematical reasoning (Fcount = 7.534 > Ftable = 4.105); (3) Among students with high interest in learning, the REACT strategy outperforms the conventional model, with a significant result (calculated significance with SPSS v.23 = 1.000 > 0.05) and average scores of 57.50 & 44.11; (4) Among students with low interest in learning, the REACT strategy also demonstrates superiority over the conventional model in critical mathematical thinking, with a significant result (calculated significance with SPSS v.23 = 0.314 > 0.05) and average scores of 31.71 & 27.56.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of Problem Based Learning (PBL) compared to the Traditional Learning Model in mathematics education, focusing on two key aspects: students' mathematical critical thinking skills and learning independence. The research examined whether PBL yielded better results than traditional methods in enhancing these capabilities, while also analyzing potential interactions between learning approaches and students' initial mathematical abilities. The study was conducted with a sample of 60 tenth-grade students from MAN 1 Medan, drawn from classes X-9 and X-6, who were divided into experimental and control groups. Using mathematical critical thinking skills assessments and a learning independence scale, data were analyzed through two-way ANOVA. The results demonstrated that the PBL model was significantly more effective than the Traditional Learning Model in improving both students' mathematical critical thinking skills and learning independence. However, no significant interactions were found between learning approaches and students' initial mathematical abilities in either the development of critical thinking skills or learning independence. These findings strongly suggest that Problem Based Learning should be considered as an effective instructional strategy for educators seeking to enhance their students' mathematical critical thinking skills and foster greater learning independence in the classroom.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology provides new innovations in the world of education, especially in the process of thinking, communicating, and learning. Mathematical communication ability is one of the important skills to be developed in the 21st century. The purpose of this study was to analyze the improvement of students' mathematical communication skills and self-efficacy with a realistic mathematics learning model assisted by Canva. The research method used was a quasi-experimental study. The research design chosen was a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The population in the study were all fifth-grade students of UPTD SD Negeri 4 Peusangan, while the sample of this study was 20 fifth- grade students as the experimental class and 18 fifth-grade students as the control class. The instruments used to obtain research data were test and non-test instruments. The test instrument consisted of 4 essay questions while the non-test instrument was a self-efficacy attitude scale test. The results of the study showed that: 1) the increase in mathematical communication skills of students who received realistic mathematics learning assisted by Canva media was higher than those who received conventional learning, 2) the achievement of self-efficacy of students who received realistic mathematics learning assisted by Canva media was better than those who received conventional learning.
