Abstract

Frequency of dental caries in Indonesia in 2004 reached 90.05% with the state of the teeth can be apical tooth tissue disorders, gangrene pulp, gangrene radix, pulpitis, hyperemia pulp and pulp irritation. The treatment can be done in cases of pulp and periapical tissues were extracted and sterilization. The research was to determine the type of treatment that is done for cases of pulp and periapical tissues in health centers and hospitals. This type of study was an observational cross-sectional approach. The data was recorded from data of patients who come to visit Dental's clinic in Puskesmas Kencong, Puskesmas Jenggawah, and Bondowoso Hospital. The case of pulp disorders and periapical tissues, health centers's treatment was more extraction preceded by medication or not and hospital's treatment was more performed sterilization will be made permanent restoration.

Abstract

Nowadays development of natural materials as an alternative denture cleanser is being developed. The use of natural ingredients is intended to reduce costs and minimize the side effects of synthetic material. One of the natural ingredients that are developed are skin of choccolate or cocoa pod husk (Theobroma cacao L). Indonesia is the third largest producer of cocoa bean in the world. One of the residues produced after removal of the cocoa bean from the fruit is cocoa pod husk (CPH). Cleaning of denture, mechanically or chemically is the effort to prevent oral candidiasis and denture stomatitis. Denture cleaning agents with chemical solution is used to remove plaque formation, mucin, discoloration, food residue, tartar and bad breath. Cocoa skin extract 2% and 0.5% as a mouthwash can reduce the number of colonies of Streptococcus sp. Ointment 10% cocoa skin extract also has the ability to reduce colonies of Streptococcus sp in patients with aphthous stomatitis.  The objective of this study literature is to determine the ability of anti candida from cocoa pod husk as an alternative denture cleanser material. This is due to the activity of the active ingredient of cocoa flavonoids and polyphenols that are comprised of catechins.

Abstract

Smoking is one of the periodontal risk factors. Nicotin in cigarettes alters the immune response system and blood vessels in the dental tissue. Tar in cigarettes facilitates the accumulation of plaque. This combination causes periodontal tissue damage. The aim of study is to know the relationship of smoking and periodontal health status. This study was cross sectional study involved 80 smokers who were selected based on simple random sampling. This study used Community Periodontal Index (CPI). Data was analyzed using Chi-Square. The result showed that none of respondents with healthy periodontal health status. Smokers with duration of smoking <10 years, amount of smoking <20 rods/day and white cigarette smokers showed moderate periodontal health status. Smokers with duration of smoking >10 years, amount of smoking  >20 rods/day and kretek cigarette smokers showed poor periodontal health status. The conclusion of this study are significant relationship between amount of cigarette (p=0,000), duration of smoking (p=0,000, type of cigarette(p=0,006) and periodontal health status.

Abstract

Dental plaque is a soft layer consist of the accumulation of  bacteria, formed and attached to the tooth surface. Propolis (Apis mellifera) contain flavonoid which is known as an antibacterial compound. The content of tt-farnesol and apigenin in flavonoids have a high potential as an anti-Streptococcus mutans and inhibit glucosyltransferase activity.Research objective is To find the influenceof propolis(Apis mellifera) hardcandyconsumption toward the decrease of dental plaquescores. This research was aclinicalexperimentalresearchusing apretest-posttest design. Subjects wererecordedtheirinitialdentalplaquescores,  then consumed propolis(Apis mellifera) hard candy and subjects dental plaque were re-scored. Abstract

Microhybrid composite resin is the recent development of hybrid composite resin which has a particle size 0,6-0,8 µm and the microfiller size is 0,04 µm. Microhybrid composite resin consist of up to 78% of filler. It increases the mechanical feature of the composite. Bonding is the material that adhere composite resin to email or dentin, in order to reduce the microleakage restoration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the microleakage differences between the fifth generation bonding and seventh generation bonding in fifth class restoration of microhybrid composite resin. It was in vitro experimental laboratories. The samples were post extraction tooth that prepared into fifth class cavity of Black classification. There were two groups, the first group was using fifth bonding generation and the second was seventh bonding generation. Microleakage was measured by observing the penetration of 2% methylen blue through by stereomicroscope. Data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U. The result showed significant differences of microleakage between groups (p<0,05). This study was concluded that microleakage in seventh bonding generation more common than fifth bonding generation.

Abstract

Tooth extraction is the most common dental treatment procedure in Indonesia. This is happened due to lack of knowledge and awareness of the effect of tooth extraction. Many patients requested dental extraction for some reason such as do not stand the pain anymore, dental treatment is expensive and long, althought the fact that such cases can still be treated. This condition called irrational extraction. Irrational extraction may cause loss of important componets for bone regeneration such as periodontal ligament stem cells/PDLSC, dental pulp stem cells/DPSC, extracellular matrix/ECM and local growth factor. PDLSC has potential differentiation into osteoblast, fibroblast periodontal ligament, and sementoblast. DPSC induces odontontoblast to form reparative dentin. Local growth factors are important component for hard and soft tissue regeneration. Due to loss of important component for bone regeneration, bone became small, thin, and brittle, which allows bone fracture. The purpose of this review is to explain the effect of irrational extraction on mesenchymal stem cell, periodontal ligament, ECM, and local growth factor. This knowledge is expected to reduce irrational tooth extraction.

Abstract

Until todays, dental caries disease is a major problem in a child's oral cavity. Children aged 6-10 years old are vulnerable to dental and oral diseases. The aim of this study was to describe the severity of dental caries in primary school children in 10 districts in Jember. An observational study with cross sectional approach was conducted in July-September 2015. Accidental sampling was 102 children of primary school grade 1 to grade 6 in 10 districts in Jember (Ambulu, Balung, Ledokombo, Tanggul, Mayang, Gumukmas, Jenggawah, Pakusari, Rambipuji and Sukorambi). The variables studied were deciduous tooth caries with four categories of severity i.e. pulp irritation (IP), pulp hyperemia (HP), gangrene of the pulp (GP), gangrene roots (GR). Data were presented in descriptive research results with a frequency distribution table and a bar chart. The results showed that most cases of primary teeth were gangrene tooth root 626 (38.1%), subsequently gangrene dental pulp 454 (27.7%), 360 dental pulp hyperemia (21.9%), and cases of irritation of the pulp were at least 202 teeth (12.3%). The high incidence of gangrene roots caused by deciduous teeth which have a tendency to be more susceptible to the development of caries lesions, lack of knowledge, awareness and motivation of parents of the importance of maintaining oral hygiene, the transition period the child's diet between home-cooked meals with school meals, which tend to choose cariogenic foods.
