Abstract

Maxillary growth can be assessed from linear measurements, which is the length of the maxilla. The process of growth and development of the maxilla is influenced by several factors, one of which is nutrition. Inadequate nutritional status can interfere with maxillary growth and development. To determine whether there is a relationship between underweight and maxillary growth. Samples were lateral cephalograms and patient data from the Department of Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, The University of North Sumatra who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The total sample was 100, consisting of 50 underweight patients and 50 normal-weight patients. The Data was obtained from examination of the Body Mass Index, measurement with the ratio of body weight and height squared then adjusted to the BMI criteria according to the Indonesian Ministry of Health in 2010, then the maxillary length was measured on the cephalogram based on the Anthanasiou method using the CorelDraw application. Data were statistically analyzed using the independent t-test to see if there was a relationship based on maxillary growth (p <0.05). The results of this research stated that mean maxillary length in the normal-weight patient group was 115,824 ± 5.56 mm higher than the underweight patient group of 101.875 ± 4.45 mm. There was a difference in maxillary length between the normal-weight patient group and the underweight patient group (p <0.05). The conclusion from this research that there is a relationship between underweight and maxillary growth.

In PLWHA (People Living with HIV-AIDS) patients, HIV-AIDS gives manifestation in their oral cavity. PHC plays a role in handling oral health problems of PLWHA and also HIV-AIDS problems. Purpose was to determine the utilization of oral health services by PLWHA in primary health center of Puger and Jember Kidul in 2019. This research was a descriptive study by analyzing secondary data. The data was taken from medical record data of VCT and registration book of oral health services at PHC of Puger and Jember Kidul. In 2019, there were 47 new PLWHA patients at PHC of Puger and there were 36 new and old PLWHA patients with oral health problems at PHC of Jember Kidul. Most of the oral health problems of PLWHA are oral candidiasis. PLWHA with oral candidiasis were treated at VCT, while caries was referred to oral health services. There were no PLWHA who utilize the oral health services in oral health services room at PHC of Puger meanwhile, the research wasn't carried out at the oral health services room of Jember Kidul primary health center due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The utilization of oral health services by PLWHA in PHC of Puger and Jember Kidul was low, and more persuasive approaches were needed to motivate PLWHA.

Abstract

The aims of orthodontic treatment is to improve the function of mastication, phonetics and aesthetics. Orthodontic treatment in Islam is not permitted if the purpose of treatment is only to improve aesthetics. Islam emphasizes hygiene and health, so orthodontic treatment with the aim of correcting mastication and phonetics accompanied by aesthetics is permissible. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of knowledge on orthodontic treatment in Islam at the lecturer at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The method of this study was descriptive observational, with a total sample of 46 lecturers. Sample inclusion criteria are lecturers who actively teach at the Faculty of Islamic Studies at the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, namely all lecturers in the departments of Islamic Education, Islamic Economics, and Islamic Broadcasting Communication. The sample exclusion criteria were the Lecturers of the Faculty of Islamic Studies of the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta who were continuing their studies abroad or other universities, and lecturers who were not willing to become research respondents. The results of the questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis which is frequency distribution, so that it would be known that the trend of research results included in the categories of low, medium or high. The results showed that the level of knowledge of orthodontic treatment according to Islam had a good level of knowledge with a percentage of 78.3%. The conclusion of this study is that lecturers are highly knowledgeable about orthodontic treatment according to Islam. The majority of lecturers know that orthodontic treatment in Islam is permissible with health goals, whereas if the goal of treatment is to improve aesthetics and change the form of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala creation it is not permissible.

Abstract

Periodontitis is inflammation of the periodontal tissue that can cause progressive damage to the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. Clinical examination to determine the degree of damage to the alveolar bone using a periodontal probe instrument or probing. Cellular activity in the gingival crevicular fluid is thought to be a biomarker to determine the inflammatory status of the periodontal tissue. Cellular immune responses suggest the role of cytokines in the pathogenesis of gingivitis and periodontitis. The cytokines observed in this study were the protein Osteocalcin and Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF). In this study, 67 patients were examined for the condition of their periodontal tissues including the severity of gingivitis and periodontal probing. The gingivitis group was divided into 4 groups, namely normal, mild, moderate, and severe. Meanwhile, for probing samples were grouped based on probing into 3 groups. Group I (0-3 mm), group II (3.1-5 mm) and group III (> 5 mm). GCF was obtained using paper points that were left in the gingival sulcus for 30 seconds. Then paper points are put into cryovial tubes which are sent to the laboratory for ELISA test. The observed data on the expression of Osteocalcin and IL-1β were then performed statistical tests. Osteocalcin and IL-1β expression showed a significant difference with the severity of gingivitis cases. In the other hand, it did not show a significant difference with difference of periodontal pocket depth. Osteocalcin and IL-1β expression associated with the severity of gingivitis cases.
