Oral health problems often found in the elderly are related to oral hygiene. Poor oral hygiene can lead to periodontal disease. Periodontal problems can result in premature tooth loss, which impacts the quality of life of the elderly. Limestone mining areas are rich in minerals, which can affect the mineral content of saliva and are related to plaque and calculus formation in the oral cavity. This study aims to analyze the relationship between respondent characteristics, oral health behaviors, and oral hygiene of the elderly in the limestone mining area. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study. Based on the Slovin formula, a minimum sample size of 96 people was obtained. Samples were taken using purposive sampling, and 125 elderly people were involved in this research. Questionnaires on respondent characteristics and oral health behavior were given to the respondents, and an examination of oral hygiene status using the OHI-S index was carried out on respondents. The chi-square test was carried out in this study. Results: The majority of older people's oral hygiene status was classified as poor, namely 110 people (88.0%). The Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship between respondent characteristics, namely levels of education, oral health behaviors, including frequency of brushing teeth, timeliness of brushing teeth, visits to the doctor, smoking, and water sources, and oral hygiene of the elderly (p<0.05). Conclusion: There is a relationship between oral hygiene status of the elderly in the limestone mining area and respondent characteristics, which is levels of education and oral health behaviors, including frequency of brushing teeth, timeliness of brushing teeth, visits to the doctor, smoking, and water sources.
