Abstract

Companies’ effort to reduce all cost including the production cost has become important due to increasing competition in the chemical industry today. One of the efforts is to decrease the investment cost of plant development in order to increase the return of investment. The amount of equipment minimization will also reduce the investment cost. Timed Petri nets method has been adopted in this study to minimize investment cost for batch process in PT ENG. The first step was to examine the utilization rate of equipment on an existing process. The second, was to add some equipment in the existing process, it was also examine the utilization and production capacity result. The first and second step has analysed by using time Petri nets. The final step was to conduct feasibility study by calculating the cost investment, payback period and return on investment. Plant development by TPN method has doubled production capacity, whereas the requirement of investment cost for development was US $ 831,881 or 21.1% of the investment cost prior to development. It was found that payback period (PBP) was 1.99 years or 54.37% faster and return on investment (ROI) was 50.4% or 2.02 times higher than the existing multiplication development method.

Abstract

The determination of project accomplishment time is tedious and time consuming. This problem is aggravated in a project with a plenty of activities exhibiting intricate interdependency among activities. The determination of project completion time, in general, is done manually using methods such as CPM or PERT. In case where the project is to be completed earlier than scheduled, the determination of activities, which are capable to be crashed, entails a new problem in a project management. A mathematical model is here proposed to solve the problem in a faster and a more accurate way. The solution could be obtained easier with the advantage of having the ability to specify optimally the activities that could be compressed to complete the project in a scheduled time with a minimum cost. The model is then applied in a project of ship maintenance with a procurement of normal and crash data time and cost. The solution of the model indicates which activities, and time requirement, could be compressed in order to complete the project in a scheduled time with a minimum cost. The model could be naturally applied to various projects.

Abstract

The study is focuses on a parametric cost model to estimate cost at the early stages of prismatic product development by machining process. The initial phase of model development begins with the determination of cost based on Activity-based costing (ABC) method of trough the overhead cost allocation of some product variants. All the resources required in the machining process are grouped into cost centers similar rates in order to determine the cost center (cost center rate). The Resources are derived from financial statements based on costs incurred during the period of time. Cost activity is calculated based on the amount of consumption and tariff cost centers required of each activity. Main activity the machining process, which develop a cost model with its parameters is the cost driver activity (activity cost driver) concerning on the amount of production and batch sizes. Mathematical equation based feature dimension has been created to determine machining process time as one of  the parameters of the model, create a. Feature were classified into 4 (four) groups of slots / pockets, holes, drills and chamfer. They are used as input variables to calculate the machining time. Thus, input parameters into the cost equation are the available information at the design stage, namely: the number of tools, product weight, dimensions (size) and the type of product features.

Abstract

Recently, environmental technologies are widely available to prevent pollution from industrial activities. The term Best Available Techniques (BAT) refers to technologies that can be used to overcome certain environmental problems. The selection of the right technology for pollution prevention involves a complicated process. Not only technical and economic aspects, but also environmental aspect should be considered as well. However, environmental aspect is difficult to quantify due to uncertainty in the real value of the environment. The aim of this study is to develop a framework for decision making process that incorporates the three aspects: technical, environmental, and economic in selecting the best technology which is relevant to a certain textile industry. One multi criteria decision analysis tool, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), is used in this study to help decision maker in a textile industry to compare and rank three alternative technologies: substitution of mineral oil, pre-wetting process and compact spinning technology. Substitution is the most feasible option having benefit/cost (B/C) ratio 2.154, followed by compact spinning with B/C ratio 0.879. The result shows that AHP is capable to quantify both qualitative and quantitative criteria to aid decision maker in comparing several options and determining the best option.

Abstract

Entering the 21st century, information and communication technolou (ICT) has become an un-separated part in daily human activities. ICT business has become the means in creating wealth and welfare for those commanding this technology. Indonesia with her abundance of people could have compete and create a mass of entrepreneurs in the ICT business. Lack of human development and other causes have brought Indonesia to become merely just user and buyer in the thriving business. The Government of Indonesia has long realized this and has made some efforts in closing the gap. President Yudhoyono 's visit the USA in 2005 has brought an early discussion whether Microsoft will open its research centre in Indonesia. The discussion arouse to a level that in the future Indonesia would able to export its software to the world market. There are steps to be taken and resources to be prepared. There are certain constrains for Indonesia to rise as the world software powerhouse in the future, including the ever changing environment of the software market, as some regard as maelstrom effect. This paper describes the steps should be taken to establish the Microsoft Research Centre in Indonesia and the link to make Indonesia as a world software exporter.
