Abstract

This essay attempts to portray the Spirit's personality to Minahasan Christian with its ancestral spirits tradition. Minahasan culture contains rich beliefs and rituals relate to ancestral spirits activities. This work prepares Minahasan Christian's practice such as kampetan, foso, mu'kur, and mumper together with the Spirit's personality throughout the Scripture. In the next stage, the Spirit's personality seeks an opportunity to engage with Minahasan Christian. However, intelligence, wisdom, and skill of the Spirit share possibility and constructive contribution toward ancestral spirit beliefs of Minahasan Christian. On the flip side, Minahasan culture openly receives works, characters, features, and impacts rather than a real figure and appearance of the Spirit. In conclusion, the Spirit's personality is not in conflict with the indigenous tradition. In contrast, it offers a new perspective and acts as a companion or partner of ancestral spirits tradition.

Abstract

The concept of love defined by Rabi’ah Al-Adawiyah, known as mahabbah, is a situation where love is not meant except for Allah. No one is remembered, longed for, and loved except Him. Love for Him is a representation of the process of riyādah and mujāhadah. Education of love in the concept of mahabbah is an effort to guide, shape, and educate a servant to become a person who has noble character and has a high spiritual soul to Allah. The relevance of education of love to Islam as a religion of compassion (rahmah) is the goal to fight hatred, envy, enmity, tension, social jealousy, violence, differences, and disputes. All of this is replaced by a sense of love, peace, and harmony among creatures, in the sphere of religion, state, and world. In particular, this article will examine 1) the concept of Rabi’ah Al-Adawiyah’s mahabbah, 2) the education of love in the Sufistic dimension of Rabi'ah Al-Adawiyah, and 3) the relevance of love education in the Sufistic dimension of the mahabbah towards Islam as a religion of compassion.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the extent of the Forum of Religious Harmony’s (FKUB) roles and duties as a driving force for harmony and right protection for Freedom of Religion or Belief (Forb). To answer the problem, this paper formulates two questions: (1) how is the role of FKUB in protecting Forb rights and maintaining religious harmony and (2) does the formation of FKUB in protecting Forb as well as maintaining religious harmony in Indonesia work successfully or not. This study examines several regulations formulated regarding the right to freedom of religion or belief and the basic principles of human rights in Indonesia. This study found that although FKUB has been established based on the principles of justice and diversity of society in Indonesia, its programs tend to only focus on one issue such as licensing places of worship, while the issue of empowering religious community, fostering tolerance, and fighting radicalism are less appreciated.

Abstract

This paper discusses John B. Cobb’s interpretation of Christian ecological moral foundation based on his “process theological” understanding as well as his critics to traditional Christian view of human supremacy over non-human creatures. It aims to explore Cobb’s eco-theological understanding based on bio-centric environmental approach and explore why his eco-theological thought becomes significant for the ongoing discourses on environmental ethics, especially from religious perspectives. This research also describes how Cobb’s idea could be working for sustainability of environment. In so doing, this paper enriches the current discussions on environmental ethics from Christian eco-theological perspective.
