Abstract

This study aims to explore the thoughts of Sayyid Muhammad bin Alawi Al-Maliki regarding extremist behavior where this action is allegedly the raw material for the ideology of radicalism which is certainly contradictory to the values of Islamic teachings. The phenomenon of radical, anarchic, brutal acts, and even terrorism which has increased recently has caused unrest and anxiety not only for the government, but this issue has also raised concerns for religious leaders in various parts of the world. Senior international scholar Sayyid Muhammad bin Alawi Al-Maliki is one of the scholars who pays attention to the discourse of radicalism. Al-Maliki who is seen as one of the descendants of the Prophet Muhammad SAW has a moderate view in throwing his views on the issue. Al-Ghuluwwu Wa Atsaruhu fi Al-Irhab wa Ifsad Al-Mujtama is his phenomenal work criticizing the ideology of extremism as fuel for acts of terrorism. The concept of "takfir" according to Sayyid Muhammad bin Alawi is one of the root causes of the increase in acts of terror that occur everywhere.

Abstract

This study focuses on Indonesia Merayakan Perbedaan (IMP)’s works to build social inclusion for agama (religion) and kepercayaan (faith) groups. The Constitutional Court’s decision No. 97/PUU-XIV/2016 was for sure a political turning point expected to eliminate stigma, discrimination, and recognition gaps between agama and kepercayaan groups. However, those were still prevalent. More alternative and creative work is still in need. This study demonstrates that IMP can be a model for building an inclusive community for agama and kepercayaan groups. IMP found ways to effectively instrumentalize the decision for diversity celebration. It managed diversity for inclusion in four phases: 1) raising awareness, creating understanding and encouraging reflection, 2) developing a vision of inclusion, 3) rethinking key management concepts and principles, and 4) adapting systems and processes. In doing so, IMP maximized opportunities and minimized challenges for the sustainability of its work in building an inclusive community. IMP’s participation in building social inclusion was a form of community intervention at a community level on ecological pathways to social inclusion. This study argues that community intervention such as IMP is significantly considerable to promote individual, organizational, community, and socio-political transformations to social inclusion, especially for inclusive interreligious relationships for agama and kepercayaan groups.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected nearly every aspect of life, particularly in the economic sector and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) — the vast majority of whom are women. Women are also among the most vulnerable populations to the COVID-19 pandemic. Srikandi Lintas Iman (SRILI) is a women’s community that has been doing interfaith dialogue since 2015. SRILI has been and continues to carry out economic empowerment of ummah to strengthen interfaith women’s solidarity in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. One of SRILI’s economic empowerment projects is the management of the Srili Bakoelan Online Market and the Nglarisi Dagangan Teman (buying friend’s products) movement through social media. This is qualitative research aimed at addressing two major questions: how to approach and organize the program and how it promotes the personal transformation of the SRILI Bakoelan community as well as the development of creative economic potential in the family and religious communities. The findings of the study indicate that social solidarity, social linking, and social bonding are valuable assets that a community may use to always be adaptive in providing a place for interfaith dialogue and response to social problems.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the environmental impact of mining activities from the Islamic perspective. The issue of concern in this article is the ex-mining pits that are not reclaimed nor being rehabilitated in post-mining activities. From the standpoint of al-tawāzun al-bī’ī, good mining practices mean returning land and water's function to their original position with improved quality to maintain a balance in environmental management and minimize the resulting damage, including those that cost people's lives. For this purpose, the religious approach and values play a central role in spreading good awareness among Indonesian people, known as a religious society.
