Abstract

Indonesia imports up to 70% of its domestic soybean needs from abroad. Therefore, it is necessary to increase soybean yields in Indonesia, among others, by providing Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF). The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of LOF enriched with Trichoderma sp. on the yield of Mutiara-1 soybean in Ultisol. The experiment was conducted on dry land with a pH of 4.66 (acidic) in Kuranji Village, Kuranji District, Padang. The experiment was arranged in a factorial completely randomized design consisting of two factors, including the dose of Trichoderma sp. and the type of LOF. The doses of Trichoderma sp. inoculants were 0, 1, and 2 kg for every 20 kg of fermented LOF main ingredients. The main ingredients of LOF used in this experiment were Chromolaena odorata, Tithonia diversifolia, and Trichoderma sp. Meanwhile, the type of LOF tested was according to the composition of the main ingredients, consisting of no LOF, Crocober, and Tithocroco. The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA and continued with the LSD test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the addition of 2 kg of Trichoderma sp. inoculants to Tithonia + C. odorata (Tithocroco) resulted in the highest dry seed production, reaching 3.17 tons ha-1 or an increase of 38.42% compared to those without LOF.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the best of packaging types and storage temperature for soybean seeds. The research was conducted in laboratory using a 5x3 factorial design arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD). The first factor was the types of packaging namely PP plastic (Poly Prophylene) vaccuum, PP plastic (Poly Prophylene) without vaccuum, PE plastic (Poly Ethylene) vaccuum, PE plastic (Poly Ethylene) without vaccuum, and control (without packaging). The second factor was the temperature of storage room, i.e. room temperature (27-29 0C), air conditioned room (17-19 0C) and Cooler room (7 0C). Each treatment was replicated 4 times. The results showed that the best packaging type for storing seed at temperature (27-29 0C) PP plastic PE plastic with and without vaccuum. However, the soybean seed storaged in air-conditioned room (17-19 0C) and Cooler room temperature (7 0C) using the vaccuum, non vaccuum, and withot packaging could maintain the quality of soybead seed for 4 months.

Abstract

This  research was aimed to study  the influence  of   kinds of cooling and packing  on the storage life of sweetcorn in order to obtain the simple postharvest  technology and easy to practice.  The research was done during the February - March of 2005 in the Research Laboratory of Agriculture Faculty, Muhammadiyah  University of Yogyakarta.  The reducing sugar analysis was done in the  Agriculture Technology Faculty of Gadjah Mada University. The laboratory  experiment  was arranged  ini 2 x 3 factorial  completely  randomized design with three replications.  The cooling first factor  was refrigerated in refrigerator to be compared  to the hydro-cooling.  Meanwhile,  the polypropilene and polyethylene  packaging were tested and compared to the unpackaged one. The flavor; reducing sugar, water content, percentage  of nonconsumable  part of sweetcorn,   fresh  weight  of ears,  and organoleptic properties  were observed. The result showed  that there was no significantly   interaction between cooling and packaging on  the  storage life  and  quality  of  sweet corn. The  cooling treatment was significantly influenced the starch and reducing sugar level  as well as the packaging treatment. Refrigeration   storage could significantly keep   the  level   of reducing  sugar  to remain higher than the hydro-cooling, this treatment  was also   decreased the starch  content, decreased the proportion  of unconsumable  part,  and maintained   the flavor. The  polyethylene    packaging significantly keep the level  of reducing  sugar to remain higher and relatively maintained the flavor   than  the polypropilene packaging or  unpackaged, but  decreased  the portion  of unconsumable  part.

Abstract

The research aimed to study the effects of storage time of cacao fruit before fermentation, aeration rate and temperature of fermenter during fermentation on the color value of dry cocoa  beans, including the value of L *, a *, b *, chroma, hue, and RGB, and their relationship using response surface methodology.. The results showed that storage time of cacao fruits before fermentation, aeration rate and temperature of the fermenter had an influence on the color values of L *, a *, b *, chroma, hue, and RGB of dried cocoa beans produced. The highest brightness prediction value of chroma color was ± 26 obtained in the treatment of the storage time of 9-day, aeration rate of 0.4 liters/minute, and fermenter temperature of 50 ℃. Meanwhile, the highest hue prediction value was 51.8 obtained in the treatment of storage time of 9 days, aeration rate of 0.3 liters / minute, and fermenter temperature of 50 ℃. Furthermore, the RGB color of dried cocoa beans showed that the color range of R (red) and G (green) of cocoa beans after fermentation was higher when compared to cocoa beans without fermentation, while the value of color B (blue) had a different tendency showing  that dried fermented cocoa beans had a lower blue range compared to unfermented cocoa beans.

Abstract

Dange is a traditional food made from delicate wet sago starch and further roasted in forna. Dange has rectangle form, flat with approximately 0,5 cm thickness. In addition, dange is also well known for its light, tasteless, hardness and relatively not hygroscopy. To increase the quality of dange and improve its flavour, a research was performed to study the quality of dange substituted with mackerel fish meat. The treatment was arranged in two classifications factorial completely randomized design. The classifications were variation of mackerel fish meat (0%, 2%, 5% and 8%) and time of grill (1 minute, 2 minutes and 3 minutes). Furthermore, the dange product quality was tested chemical and sensory analysis. The chemical analysis consisted of moisture, protein, fat, ash and starch content. Whereas the different of dange product quality was tested sensory analysis using scoring test method and the consumers acceptance was tested by hedonic scale test method. It was found that the most liked dange was made from 5% substitute of mackerel fish meat at 1 minute grill. This dange had slightly brittle texture, yellow-white colour, fishy taste and relatively strong fishy flavour with 27.84% moisture, 3.98% protein, 0.50%fat, 2.48% ash and 57,78% starch content.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the growth and yield responses of four soybean cultivars to different methods of N, P, and K fertilizers application. The methods consisted of one-time application (at the planting time) and split application (at the planting time and during the initial stage of pod formation (R3 stage)). Four superiors soybean cultivars were used, namely Anjasmoro, Grobogan, Dena-1, and Argomulyo. One-time fertilizers application resulted in an increased plant height compared to split fertilizers application. In contrast, the split fertilizers application led to a higher yield of soybeans indicated by the higher total number of pods, number of filled pods, 100-grain weight, and seed dry weight. Cv. Anjasmoro produced higher growth and yield than cv. Grobogan, Dena-1, and Argomulyo. It also produced the highest yield compared to other cultivars. Meanwhile, cv. Argomulyo produced the lowest yield in both fertilization methods. Based on the soil analysis after harvest, the nutrient content of K in the soil was higher than before planting in both fertilization methods. In addition, the split fertilizers application led to higher utilization of P in the soil after harvest.

Abstract

Modern agriculture is very closely related to the application of fertilizer to induce plants grow. The application of bio-fertilizers is expected to reduce the negative impact of chemical fertilizers. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of multi-functional Azospirillum N2 fixation, P solubility and IAA production on the growth of Ciherang rice in pot experiment in greenhouse BB Biogen. The experiment treatment were 3 types of inoculation (non-inoculation, inoculation using wildtype Aj Bandung 6.4.1.2 and the mutant isolate of AJM 3.7.1.14 ), and 4 levels of fertilizer application (non-fertilization, a quarter dose, a half dose, and the real dose of fertilization on rice in lowland). The Azospirillum isolates were used wildtype isolate Aj Bandung 6.4.1.2 and mutant isolate AJM 3.7.1.14 that was isolated and mutated using ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) in BB Biogen. Seeds of Ciherang rice were inoculated using Azospirillum at cell density 106 cell/ml in different seedling tray. After 14 days, the seedlings were transferred to planting pots which consist of 3 plants per pot. Parameters observed were plant height, number of tillers, number of panicles per hill, wet and dry weight of panicles per hill, weight of 100 seeds, N and P content of the stover. The results showed that both wild-Azospirillum and mutant inoculum had no effect on the vegetative growth of Ciherang, but showed significant effect on the number of panicle per hill, grain weight per hill and dry weight of seeds per panicle. The use of Azospirillum and N fertilizer combination affected the growth and rice yields, also reduced chemical fertilizer application.
