Abstract

This study analyzed the gender role allocation of wholesale-traders and coffee producers in their post harvest activities in Rejanglebong and Lebong District. It examined the major participants in the coffee postharvest subsystem, identified roles and characteristics, and their problems and needs in performing these roles. These were analyzed using descriptive statistics like frequency, percentage, mean, ranking and standard deviation. Twenty-five wholesale-traders and forty-three coffee producers served as respondents of this study. Coffee business is the major income source of the respondents. Decisions in carrying out postharvest activities were done solely by the males or jointly by males and females since males played the manager’s role. Problems encountered in performing coffee postharvest activities were: technical know-how in coffee processing; low and fluctuating prices; lack of storage facilities; occurrence of bad weather condition and too high coffee trees and difficulty in hiring laborers during peak season.

Abstract

By using Data Panel Model can be found the interprovincial disparity in Indonesia since 1997 until 1999, which caused by foreign investment. While the domestic investment, significantly do not influence to disparity. The disparity measured by Index Williamson was not big but that way remain to have to be made attention. Java and specially Capital Special District give a very big contribution to interprovincial disparity. As monetary and economic crisis precisely causes the disparity, become smaller. The weakness of this Data Panel Model there are low coefficient value of determination (R2) that is 26,3%. Other weaknesses lay in assumption that an equation slope of dummy variable is constant.

Abstract

Vegetable production, including that of chillies, plays an important role in agricultural sector and rural economic development worldwide. This is because of greater farm productivity with regard to vegetables than cereal and staple crops. This paper analyses the impact of seed technology development on the economic aspects of chilli production in Central Java. Particular attention is paid to improved varieties of chilli. Potential consequences of seed technology development are discussed. Data of this study are compiled from surveys conducted in three selected chilli producing regions in 2010-2012. The results show that the major varieties of chilli grown by surveyed farmers are grouped into three broad types: hybrids, local and improved open pollinated varieties. The chilli varieties farmers selected varied according to location and cropping season. In the dry season, farmers grew similar proportions of hybrid, local, and open pollinated types. Nevertheless, there were differences among the survey sites. Farmers grew different varieties to exploit seasonal microclimates and market preferences. Mostly, farmers selected varieties for economic motives. The consequence of growing hybrids was less use of agrochemicals, particularly pesticides, than for other varieties. Overall, they show the best economic performance in the study site. Development of seed technology should consider agro-ecological and economic aspects to obtain better outcomes. Private sector and national research institutions need to collaborate more to utilise available genetic resources to produce better varieties of chilli.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out the selection criteria considered by individual customers in choosing Islamic (Syariah) banks; assessing the degree of customers knowledge on Islamic banks products; and finally to determine customers’ attitudes towards Islamic banks. The sample of the study was individual customers of Bank Muamalat and Bank Syariah Mandiri located in Banyumas Regency. There were two steps employed in analyzing the data: descriptive and factor analysis. The result of the study shows that there are seven factors to be considered by customers in patronizing Islamic banks. Among those factors are: perception, process, tangible, price, people, social and location. The most important factor considered by customers is perception factor. Moreover, customers’ knowledge on Islamic banks is still narrow, some do not even familiar with the products offered by Islamic banks. Religion is not the main reason for customer to patronize Islamic bank, other important reason is the level of profit sharing offered by the banks.

Abstract

The aims of this paper are: 1) To measures the differences between two dependent variables of womans motivation on work is caused by economic and education factor; 2) To explain the interaction effect between independent variable age and culture to womens work motivation caused by economic and education factor. The empirical result of this research with MANOVA models are as follows. The impact of self-actualization, culture, husbands income, familys income on women determination of labor force participation has been very significant. Husband income and culture have a significant negative effect on women determination of labor force participation. While self-actualization and familys income, have a significant positive effect on women determination of labor force participation.Based on the result, there are differences between independent variables (age and culture) vector mean to dependent variables (economic and education motivation)All multivariate tests indicate that the interaction effect is significant. Both Variables culture and education have a significant effect income variable at 0,05 significant level but not significant on education variables. One of the crucial policy implications of this paper is that we must enhance the government policy on that base on that result. Differences between male and female wages in the same working still exist now. Base on that reality, we must enhance the government policy to protection womens right on the economic activity and the equality in the human right both male and female worker.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Indonesia economic structure with employing the temporal Leontief inverse which was developed by Sonis and Hewings (1998) on 1975-2005 Indonesia’s input-output tables. In the first stage, this study investigates how the manufacturing industries in driving the Indonesian economy during structural changes. In the second stage, this study examines the structural changes of the manufacturing industries, which can explain the trends in individual industry balance in the context of the economic system. Based on the analysis, this study can trace how each year’s change contributes to the total impact in gross output change.

Abstract

The objectives of the study are: to compare the model of fisheries management with conventional versus new paradigm; to explore the prospect of new fisheries management model; to formulate the initial strategy of fisheries management model using EBFM. The ecosystem of Karimunjawa is selected as the pilot project of this research. The competent 25 keypersons were selected using purposive quoted sampling for interview. Descriptive statistics, meta-analysis and AHP were employed to analize the data. The results showed that the conventional fisheries management models were rather ineffective to answer the current situation of fisheries resource. We need facing out to find a suitable approach of fisheries management model. One of the proposed new paradigm is EBFM. This model indicates has a good prospect to manage the fisheries resource in the study area. This study suggests that EBFM model should be under-tried out. If it is acceptable, then the model can be implemented for other region.
