Abstract

This research aimed to determine whether the reciprocal teaching model affects the ability of students’ mathematical representation or not. The research design used was post test only control design. Sampling used cluster random sampling by taking two classes namely, class VII B as the experimental class and class VII A as the control class. The location of the research was SMP Negeri 6 Purwokerto. As for obtaining data used post test the ability of mathematical representation, the post test question in the form of description. Post test result of mathematical representation ability showed experiment calss average was 65.23, while control class equal to 59.31. Also it obtained the score of hypothesis testing using independent sample t-test as follows, Sig. = 0.051/2 = 0.0255 with 0.05 which means Sig < 0.05 or 0 H is rejected. It can be concluded that the reciprocal teaching model affecs the ability of mathematical representation. Keyword: Mathematical Representation Ability, Reciprocal Teaching.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the description of Mathematic Combinatory Thiking Ability of the Students. This is a descriptive qualitative research. The subject of the research was the students of Grade XI.MIA-5 SMAN 5 Purwokerto. The technique of the data collection in this research was by test, interview and documentation. The result of the students’ mathematic combinatory thinking ability was grouped in 3, namely the high, middle, and low. Each group was taken 3 as the respodents. The result of the research showed that mathematic combinatory thinking ability of the high could understand the problem faced and started to find the possibility of answering the correct answer, find all possible answers correctly, and able to solve more than one combinatory problem in one single mechanism. The students’ mathematic combinatory thinking ability of the middle could understand the problem faced and started to find the possibility of answering the correct answer, find all possible answers correctly. Then, the students’ mathematic combinatory thinking ability of the low could only understand the problem faced and started to find the possibility of answering the correct answer. Abstract

The research aimed at describing students’ metacognitive ability in solving mathematically story question viewed from students’ learning independence in SMA Negeri 1 Sokaraja. The research was conducted in grade X-6 of SMA Negeri 1 Sokaraja on May 2016. The research method was descriptive qualitative method. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The research subject were divided into 3 (three) groups based on the learning independence questionnaire (I.e., high, medium, and low-learning independence group). The data collection techniques used in this research were story-question test and in-depth interview. The research result showed that: (1) Students from high-learning independence group achieved strategic use level of metacognitive ability. In this level, the students were able to pass through metacognitive behavioural steps, such uas comprehending problems, selecting and using proper strategic in solving a problem, controlling problem-solving process as well as evaluating briefly. (2) students from medium level learning independence group achieved aware use level. In which they were able to comprehend a problem, but they have not been able able to control the problem solving process. (3) Students from low-level learning independence group achieved tacit use level. In this level, students solved the problem by doing trial and error since they have not be able to comprenend the problem. Therefore they were able neither to determine the proper problem solving strategy nor to solve the problem properly. Keywords: Metacognitive Ability, Learning Independence

Abstract

The objectives of this research was to construct description on student’s mathematical cognitive ability in SMP Muhammadiyah Sumbang viewed from learning style and gender on topic of rectangular. The research method was descriptive qualitative. The research population was students of 7th Grade A and D with purposive sampling technique. Students were divided into six groups and two students from each group were selected as respondents. Test, interview and documentation were used as the data collection. The results indicated: 1) Male and female students with visual learning style could not have knowledge of five indicators of mathematical cognitive ability as follow: to propose presumption, to make mathematical manipulation, to draw conclusions, to construct evidence, to give reasonable evidence for solutions, to examine argument validity, and to find path of mathematical indication. 2) Male and female students with auditory learning style could have knowledge one indicator of mathematical cognitive ability as of to find path of mathematical indication. 3) Male students with kinesthetic learning style could have knowledge of one indicator of mathematical cognitive ability as of to make mathematical manipulation. 4) Female students with kinesthetic learning style could have knowledge of one indicator of mathematical cognitive ability as of to propose presumption. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the students’ mathematical representation ability viewed from spatial cognitive style on geometry. This study used qualitative method. Subjects in this study were students X,MIPA 1 SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Purbalingga. The sampling technique of this study was GEFT (Group Embedded Figure Test) by taking three students for a group of high spatial cognitive sytle, 3 students for a group of medium spatial cognitive sytle, and 3 students for a group of low spatial cognitive sytle. Data analysis techniques used in this study were reduction of data (data reduction), description of data (data display) and conclusion (verification). Data collection techniques in this study were tests, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that high spatial cognitive style group is able to master three indicators of representation, those are: recording and communicating mathematical ideas in the from of symbol or picture on geometry using the words/ written text in solving geometry problems as well as creating mathematical model from the ideas by applying mathematical expressions in solving geometry problems. While medium spatial cognitive style group is able to master two indicators, those are: recording and communicating mathematical ideas in the from of geometry symbol/image and written words written texts in solving geometry problems. In addition, the low spatial cognitive style group is able to master an indicator that is recording and communicating mathematical ideas in the from of geometry symbol or picture. Abstract

During this time some students get assumption that mathematics is a difficult lesson. The low mathematics outcomes learning is considered having a relation with the self regulated learning, the students’ attitude towards the mathematics learning and the students’ metacognition ability. This research is purposed to know is there or not about the positive relation and significance between the self regulated learning, the students’ attitude towards the mathematics learning and the metacognition ability with the mathematics learning outcomes of students of grade X in even semester in Muhammadiyah vocational school of Prambanan in Sleman regency in the academic year of 2015/2016. The population in this research is all of the classes of X TP (TPA, TPB, TPC, TPD) in Muhammadiyah vocational school of Prambanan. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling which is based on the direction from the teacher and class X TPC is taken to be the sampling class. The data collecting technique used is the questioner technique and test which is the determination and the consistence is measured using the validity and reliabiliti test. Pre-test covers normality test, independence test, and linearity test. Meanwhile, data analysis for testing the hypothesis uses the regression and correlation analysis. The research’s result shows that there are the positive relation and significance between the self regulated learning, the students’ attitude towards the mathematics learning and the metacognition ability with the mathematics learning outcomes. Abstract

This research aims at 1) developing interactive media for mathematics learning by using Adobe Flash CS 5 in trigonometry material to enhance students’ learning motivation; 2) recognizing the media quality through validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The used of research design is research and development (R&D) which adapted the steps from Borg and Gall. These steps consist of three steps as introduction, development, and validation. This research shows that the applied media is useable which assessed through aspect of validity, practicality, and effectiveness of interactive learning media. Abstract

The ability of mathematical connection is an important thing to be trained to students. Initial observation when this research was conducted showed that there were problems of mathematics learning in SMA Al-Muqoddasah of Ponorogo, that is, the tendency of teacher centered learning activities and low learning result of mathematics students especially in relation between some concepts in mathematics. Reciprocal Teaching Strategy is one of the alternatives that can be done to help students connect some concepts in learning mathematics, and enable students so that they can think creatively and critically. The purpose of this study is to describe the learning with Reciprocal Teaching strategy that can improve students' mathematical connection ability in SMA Al-Muqoddasah of Ponorogo.
