Abstract

Abstract. This research was aimed to analyze the excess inventories issue in pharmacy and medical equipment unit at a local hospital in Bandung which affected the service level of the hospital. As one of the busy hospital in Java, proven by the higher amount of the patient/year than in other average Java typical hospital, the hospital needs to concern about the pharmaceutical and medical equipment inventories in order to fulfill patients’ needs and in the same time keeping the inventory level under control. Therefore, an inventory control evaluation was conducted to determine the appropriate number of inventories and time of order to avoid the excessive goods in central warehouse of the hospital. By using probabilistic inventory model and continuous review policy, the pharmaceutical inventory in the hospital was calculated to compare the ideal and actual amount of the average inventory level (AIL). ABC (Always, Better, Control) classification also classified in this research to identify the proper item which potentially can be reduced from the inventory. From the analysis, we have discovered that the hospital potentially able to reduce almost Rp 830 million or 57% from the overstock inventory level by using continuous review policy as the basis of inventory control calculation system. Keywords:  Continuous review policy, inventory control, EOQ, ROP, AIL

Abstract

Abstract. The necessity to face technology challenges in industrialization in Indonesia causes the current condition to be not preferable. Conditions in higher education which relates closely to the research and development in Indonesia trigger questions of what future holds in Indonesia’s technology development in the future. This paper looks back at the previous literatures on international movements of scientists and engineers abroad and proposes to apply a causal loop diagram model. This paper also analyzes the relationships based on Indonesia’s context and set a parameter for each variable. The relationships were checked through interview with representation from Indonesian research institutions and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The result of this paper confirms that the diagram is able to symbolize the circumstances in Indonesia’s context. Second important finding is that based on simulation and policy scenarios implemented, the policy to increase the number of scholarships by the government is predicted as the most effective to all important parameters for future development in Indonesia in relation to education and technology development, which will eventually lead to economic development. Keywords:  Engineers, international students, policy scenarios, scientists, system dynamics

Abstract

Abstract. Science and Technology Parks (STPs) have generated a thriving debate among academics, practitioners and policy makers on their effectiveness as instruments of innovation policy. Meanwhile, the relationship between factors including the actors involved in the implementation of STP became an obstacle. The strategic alliance is one of the management approaches that can be used to answer the question. The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of the implementation of the strategic alliance and its influence on the performance of C-STP, and examines the relationship between organizations resource availability and absorptive capacity as well as type of alliances with organizational performance. Collecting data in this study using a questionnaire with 32 respondents were then analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results show that collaboration and partnership is a factor to be considered to enhance the capabilities and performance of C-STP. Meanwhile, C-STP need to increase their efforts in improving internal resources is a source of competitive advantage in order to achieve superior business performance.Keyword: Absorptive capacity, C-STP, resources, strategic alliance, structural equation modeling

Abstract

Abstract. The linkage among information-intensive era, technology, and tourism industry build inseparable genetic relationship which is supposed to be realized in practice. Let alone in this digital era, the urgency to exploit information to the next level resulted in the need to bring a higher game on the technology in order to manage information effectively and efficiently. Tourism industry is categorized as complex system regarding the components substituted it. The diverse elements which interact with dynamics pace give birth to complex tasks to manage by the responsible parties and consequently enhance experience in tourism industry. Competing with complex situation, computerized decision system is urgently needed to collect and also distribute accurate knowledge of tourism industry, collaborate with both supporting public and private sectors, and gain rationality for all stakeholders in the system. Solo city, known also as Surakarta and located in Central Java (Indonesia), is obliged to do its tourism industry justice as it is an important vehicle for regional development of the city. Tourism industry of Solo city represents the major and significant contributor to the local economy to the point where tourism is the brand of Solo city. Taking the prior research finding, value orchestration platform to promote tourism in batik Solo industrial cluster into the reference, this study improves the model by highlighting the duality function the tourism website supposed to have using hashtag (#) minings principle as the latest user interface technology. This study proposes a collaborative website platform as a co-created decision support system to enhance tourism experience for tourist as consumer and optimize management process for Department of Culture and Tourism of Solo city as provider. Keywords: Decision support system, hashtag mining, service-dominant logic, solo city, tourism experience

Abstract

Abstract. This paper suggests a theoretical framework for analyzing the mechanism of the behavior of academic researchers whose interests are tangled and vary widely in academic factors (the intrinsic satisfaction in conducting research, the improvement in individual research ability, etc.) or non-academic factors (career rewards, financial rewards, etc.). Furthermore, each researcher also has his/her different academic stances in their preferences about academic freedom and academic entrepreneurship. Understanding the behavior of academic researchers will contribute to nurture young researchers, to improve the standard of research and education as well as to boost collaboration in academia-industry. In particular, as open innovation is increasingly in need of the involvement of university researchers, to establish a successful approach to entice researchers into enterprises’ research, companies must comprehend the behavior of university researchers who have multiple complex motivations. The paper explores academic researchers' behaviors through optimizing their utility functions, i.e. the satisfaction obtained by their research outputs. This paper characterizes these outputs as the results of researchers' 3C: Competence (the ability to implement the research), Commitment (the effort to do the research), and Contribution (finding meaning in the research). Most of the previous research utilized the empirical methods to study researcher's motivation. Without adopting economic theory into the analysis, the past literature could not offer a deeper understanding of researcher's behavior. Our contribution is important both conceptually and practically because it provides the first theoretical framework to study the mechanism of researcher's behavior. Keywords:  Academia-Industry, researcher behavior, ulrich model’s 3C.

Abstract

Abstract. Product Development is essential for the company to stay steady or advance in the market competition. However, the main challenge in product development is associated with the uncertaincy risks that may appeared during the design process. Such risks may affect the success rate  of the product development and may contribute either to a small or a huge loss, in  which the sustainability of the company can also be affected. To mitigate the risks in product development, risk management is critical. CV. XYZ is a company producing dairy-based products such as mozzarella cheese and yogurt. This research is aimed to identify the potential appeared risks, to arrange the priority  order of risk agents and to conceptualize the risk mitigation strategy to be applied. A Yogurt drink product development is needed by CV. XYZ to support the company goals of the product and market expansion. House of Risk (HOR) method was used in this research. Two phases included in the identification process, namely marketing and product development design. The research results have examined  20 risks with 27 identified risk agents. Using the Aggregate Risk Potential (ARP) value, and Pareto 80:20 principal, this study provides a strategic guideline as how to mitigate the top-three identified risk agents.                                                                                                                      Keywords: House of Risk (HOR), Risk Management, Product Development, Yogurt Drink
