Abstract

This research to exploit the waste sawdust of wood lua (Ficus glomerata ROXB) for the making particle board with the variation size measure particle that is 60 mesh, 80 mesh and mixture (60 mesh+80 mesh). Wood lua represent the wood less be recognized and to lower specific gravity. Agglutinant use the glue of Urea Formaldehyda (UF) with the glue concentration 20% from dry weight particle substance. The result of research show the average value board particle wood lua made for moisture content to range from 9,25-9,41%; wood density as 0,60-0,63 gr/cm3; thickness swelling as  9,13-9,53 %; modulus of rupture (MoR) 97,63-101,59 kgf/cm2; modulus of elasticity (MoE) 1,12-1,32.104 kgf/cm2; tensile strength as 2,96-3,99 kgf/ cm2. As a whole result examination  nature of fisis and mechanical particle board wood lua the standard quality of SNI 03-2105-2006 except for the examination modulus of elasticity (MoE).Key wood : lua, fisis, mechanical, particle.

Abstract

Laminated beams of two, three and four layers of coconut wood the bottom, middle and top part with PVAc adhesive (Poly Vinyl Acetat). The purpose of this research is to make coconut wood laminate beams for structural building materials. The results showed that the laminated beam two, three and four layers are made of wood bottom and middle part produce strong mechanical strength class II and III, so that qualified for structural building materials (SNI.03-3527-94). laminated beams of two, three and four are made of wood mechanical strength of the top part produces a strong class IV and meet for structural building materials (SNI.03-3527-94). Abstract

Shavings rattan waste from the rattan industry can be made into particle board which the addition of glue and hot pressing.  The various of the particle length compositions are, 100% of 1cm of size, mixture of 1cm and 3cm (50%,50%), 1cm and 5 cm (50%, 50%), 3 cm (100%), 3 cm and 5 cm (50%, 50%), and 5 cm (100%). Each of combination was added by 6% and 12% concentration of urea formaldehide glue (UF).  All of the physical and mechanical test results are fulfil the Indonesian Standard of particle board (SNI.03-2105-2006).  Those results are water content 12,36 – 12,49%, thickness increase value 12,25 – 14,15%, density 0,56 – 0,69 g/cm3, hardness 83 – 155 kg/cm2, broken strenght (MOR) 115 – 1306 kg/cm2, bending strenght (MOE) 547 – 6917 kg/cm2,  The best result for Particle  was shown in  and 6% of the glue addition.  The particle boards are classified as medium density board class which has 0,40 – 0,80 g/cm3 of density.  Base on the density chriteria and the glue, the particle board can be use for parts of interior material such as cabinets, desks, bookcase, and etc. Key wood : particle board, rattan waste

Abstract

The use of ant nests (Myrmecodia pendens) native of Borneo as an antibacterial. The aim of this research is to make the crude drug  from the ant nest, simply extracting, condensing and test the ability of anti-bacterial properties of ant nests. This study covers the development of these extracts, proximate analysis, and test the antibacterial activity of plant-ant nest. Parameters measured were the growth of antibacterial activity against Salmonella sp., E. coli and Bacillus sp. showed by inhibition (clear zone). The results showed that plant-ant nests have antibacterial power. Ethanol extract of the ant nests provide a better inhibition compared with water extraction ant nests. Antibacterial activity of the ant nest extracts can be applied both in gram- positive and gram-negative bacteria. Key wood : ant nest, antibacterial,  inhibition capability

Abstract

One of the important auxiliary processes in the wood processing industry, especially making particle board or fiberboard is gluing. Bonding process is influenced by the type of adhesive material, process and place of gluing, apart from the nature of the taped material. Until now, the adhesive material commonly used include synthetic adhesive Urea Formaldehyde (UF), Phenol Formaldehyde (PF) or Melamine Formaldehyde (MF).The rotary mixer is designed in a simple to mixing between partiket with glue that adhesion earns homogen. Rotary mixer has 5 (five) major units, namely: the framework tools (foundation), tubes mixing, mixer circuit, drive circuit and compressor. The working principle of this tool is stirring directly between the wood particles with adhesive. Material in the form of wood particles (after a specified weight) is inserted first into the mixing tube. Once the machine is turned on, a series of rotating stirrer will stir load (material particles). The next process is to insert adhesive into the tube, either by spraying or directly poured slowly little by little. Key wood : particles, adhesive, rotary mixer.

Abstract

Rattan on frequently attacked by the powder post beetle (Tellu, 2001). The prevention of dry powder attacks is done by preservation. The increasing resistant of rattan from insect attack can be done by an environmentally friendly preservative, the Galam wood vinegar. This research  aims to determine the most effective concentration of preservative that shows the lowest attacks level of D. Farb minutus powder. The rattan used is green rattan (Calamus sp.) The concentration of preservative that are used:10%, 40%, 70% and 100%. The testing of dry powder attack  used force feedback method. The effectiveness test parameters of wood vinegar to dry powder attacks  included degree of protection Dinoderus minutus Farb. powder,  reduction percentage of rattan weight and the mortality of dry powder Dinoderus sp for toxicological testing of wood vinegar. The test results showed that the degree of protection powder in rattan growing along with the increased concentration of preservatives. The higher the concentration of  wood vinegar, the smaller the reduction of rattan weight and the higher the mortality rate of dry powder. Abstract

The  activated carbon is very important  for has  processed product activated carbon.   In south Kalimantan has a big prospects due to the big potential of the raw material provided by the nature and industrial waste. There are a lot of raw materials that can be used for the manufacture of activated carbon such as  agricultural waste, sugarcane waste, waste of sawn timber, lives stock waste and coal  processing waste.Manufacture of activated carbon can be done in  ways: chemical  and physical processes. Activation  is very important in the manufacture of activated carbon in addition to the raw materials used. Activated carbon is charcoal that has undergone changes in chemical properties  and physical properties due to be activated with the activator chemical materials or can by heating at high temperatures, so that absorption , surface area, and the ability to absorb become as very good. Activated carbon is used as an absorbent to absorb heavy metals, in medicine and food, on liquor, petroleum chemical, shrimp farming, the sugar industry of gas purification, catalyst and fertilizer processing.Key wood :  technology  processed, activated carbon
