Abstract

Development of the rattan furniture industry today is quite fast although the amount of raw materials are decreasing, especially in commersial rattan commodities such as Manau,  Irit, Taman, Sega, etc. Their price is quite expensive too five species of rattan were used as research materials. There are Manau (Calamus mettanensis Becc), Toho (Calamus sp), Galang (Daemonorops verticilaris Griff Mart), Hijau (Calamus sp) and simpurut (Calamus panajuga Becc). For finishing materials, clear glass melamine (ML 131 and NC 141) were used in this research with three different immersion timer for 24 hours, 36 hours and 48 hours long. An immersion method without using any finishing materials was done as control materials. Result show that the average of volume expansion of rattan speseis using NC 141 are 1,56-3,16% in Marau; 1,36-2,91%; in Toho; 2,01-3,05% in Galang; 2,12-3,20% in Hijau and 1,90-2,14 in Simpurut. In the other hand, the average of volume expansion of rattan species using melamin ML 131 are 1,27-2,58% in Marau; 1,46-2,51% in Toho; 2,30-3,23% in galang; 1,10-2,79% in Hijau and 1,45-2,55% in Simpurut. In control materials the average of expantion volume in 5 species rattans is 2,53-3,99%. From those results, the best method was shown in using NC 141 which can prevent the volume expansion and give great influence in volume expansion value.Keywords: rattan, finishing material, melamine ML 131, melamine NC 141, volume expantion.

Abstract

Saw dust waste has a big potential to be used as charcoal briquettes. The galam wood charcoal was added to increase the quality of the Meranti saw dust charcoal. The composition arrangement of Meranti saw dust and galam wood charcoal were 100%:0% ; 90%:10% ; 85%:15% ; 80%:20% ; and 0%:100%. Tapioca flour was used as the adhesive agent. We use 10.000 kg/cm2 for the pressure clamp. The result show that the charcoal briquette have the physical characteristics such as 3.78% - 4.54% for water content with the density between 0.49 – 0.77 gr/cm3 – 0,77 gr/cm3. For the chemical characteristics, the ash content is between 2.64% - 3.24%, substances fly content is 25,40% - 29,40% and the calorific value is between 5502.40 – 6249 cal/gr. The addition of galam wood charcoal is causing the decreasing of the ash and substance fly content but in contrast the calorific value and the residual carbon are increase.Keywords: charcoal briquette, meranti, galam, physic, chemistry

Abstract

Blood fever and Chikungunya cases in Indonesia are increasing annually. For preventing the mosquios, people use mosquito coil which is contain dangerous chemical compound. This research has successly created a natural mosquito coil with gemor bark and hazelnut fruit shell as the main material. Gemor bark is positive containing alcaloid,tanin, phenolk, flvonoid, triterpnoid and glycocydic compounds which are natural bioinsecticide. As formulation the comparison of gemor bark and hazelnut shell as follow :100% : 0 %  ; 80 % : 20 % ; 65 % : 35 % ; 50 % : 50 % ; 35 % : 65% and 20 % : 80% were used. Base one random variance analysis, the best formula was the using of gemor bark in 50%, 35% and  20% of concentration. The mosquitos killing force analysis was using the LT50 for 6 days with 5 diferent concentrations. The result showed that 50 %  of gemor bark was significantly influenced in the killing force. From the economic view, the producion of this coil was cheaper then the same product in the maket. Base on all the result, the research product is applicable in mass producion and safe for human health and the environment.Keywords: gemor bark , hazelnut fruit shell ,  mosquito coil, natural ,  ecofriendly

Abstract

The compound of 3-methyl-4-octanol had been synthesized by the formation of Grignard reagent sec-buthyl magnesium bromide. The choosing of reactant 2-bromo butane and n-pentanal were resulted from retrosynthesize analysize of 3-methyl-4octanol pheromone. The reaction of sec-buthyl magnesium bromide was done at temperature 400C for 30 minutes, while the reaction between this reagent with n-pentanal was done for two hours. The formed compound was hydrolized using saturated NH4Cl solution and then cooled. The compound was identified using Infra Red spectrophotometre (IR), Gas Chromatography (GC), and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS). Abstract

ABSTRACTThe  research was design to know the impact of chemical compound in deflexioning  process of the rattan for furniture material. There are three kinds of rattan  using for this research.  They are manau ( Calamus manna Miq.),  batang  (Daemonorops robusta Warb.)  and suti (Calamus ormatus BI). The chemical compounds that used in this research are  Natrium Hidroksida ( NaOH) and Dimetylsulfoxside ( DMSO). The  result of water content is  12,98%.  and this fulfilled the requirement for the funiture   material which is  14%.  The higher  of the  NaOH and DMSO   concentration used is causing the increasing of rattan density.  The same  effect is shown in the  bending strength ( MOR) and elasticity strength ( MOE), the higher of the chemical compound  concentration  is cause the rattan more easy to deflex.Keywords: rattan,  plastisation,  deflexion  NaOH, DMSO,  funiture

Abstract

The utilization of acacia and kelampayan wood as  plywood materials  were done. There are two kinds of treatments with two cores samples.  Wood core with thickness 2 mm and 3 mm with the spreading rate of adhesive  150 gr/m2, 200 gr/m2 and 250 gr/m2.   Resuls showed  that the  water content  of plywood  are 9,01% - 14,29%  for acacia and 9,17% - 10,58%   for kelampayan wood material.  The density of the plywood are 0,62 gr/cm3 – 0,73 gr/cm3  for acacia and 0,44 gr/cm3 – 0,57 gr/cm3.  for kelampayan wood material.  The tensile  strength of plywood are tensile strength of  plywood  are 9,49 kg/cm2 – 14,73 kg/cm2  for acacia and 8,61 kg/cm2 – 12,58 kg/cm2   for kelampayan wood material.Keywords: acacia, kelampayan,  the spreading rate of adhesive,  physics       characteristic,  plywood

Abstract

Finishing of coconut wood use the polyurethane, melamine formaldehyde and ultran vernis with the spraying 1 times and 2 times. Research target for the change of performance of colour and fibre of coconut wood more interesting. Result of research indicate that the use of substance of finishing polyurethane, melamine formaldehyde and ultran vernis can change the colour and fibre. Before coconut wood done  finishing have the black chocolate colour  and  fibre pattern rather dark.
