Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women worldwide, including in Indonesia. Although it can be prevented through cervical cancer screening such as Pap smears and HPV tests, many women, including students, are unaware of the importance of routine screening. Universities, as educational institutions with a significant female student population in a vulnerable age group, play a crucial role in raising awareness and encouraging participation in cervical cancer screenings. However, several challenges exist, including low awareness among students about cervical cancer, social stigma, limited access to medical services, and the lack of integration of health education into the Curriculum. This policy brief aims to provide policy recommendations that universities can implement to address these issues. Key recommendations include integrating health education on cervical cancer into the Curriculum, collaborating with health institutions to provide screening services on campus, and developing sensitive and inclusive awareness campaigns. By increasing knowledge, reducing stigma, and improving access to services, this policy is expected to enhance student participation in cervical cancer screening, reduce mortality rates from cervical cancer, and foster a healthier reproductive health culture among students. These policies promise positive impacts on student health and have the potential to enhance the University's reputation as an institution that cares about its students' well-being. Successful implementation of this policy will reduce the prevalence of cervical cancer among young women and improve the overall quality of life for students.

Abstract

Hypertension in pregnancy, particularly preeclampsia, remains a significant health issue due to its potential risks to maternal and fetal health. Despite advances in medical management, there is a need for complementary interventions to address this condition effectively. This study investigates the impact of Acupressure and Foot Hydrotherapy interventions utilizing red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) on reducing blood pressure in pregnant women with preeclampsia at the Kembaran I Health Center. The study employs a quantitative experimental design involving 15 pregnant women diagnosed with preeclampsia. Participants were selected through non-probability sampling based on inclusion criteria: gestational age of ≥20 weeks and Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) ˃90 mmHg. Blood pressure was measured using a digital sphygmomanometer before and after the intervention, while an observation sheet recorded the systolic, diastolic, and MAP values. Data analysis was conducted using Paired Samples Correlations and paired sample t-tests to assess the intervention's effectiveness. Results reveal that Acupressure combined with Foot Hydrotherapy using red ginger significantly reduces blood pressure in preeclamptic women. This is evidenced by the t-test value exceeding the critical t-table value at a 5% significance level and degrees of freedom ( ), specifically 2.145. Additionally, the analysis demonstrates a high correlation between pre- and post-intervention blood pressure parameters, indicating consistent effectiveness of the therapy. This research underscores the potential of integrating complementary interventions, such as Acupressure and Foot Hydrotherapy with red ginger, into maternal healthcare protocols to manage preeclampsia and improve maternal outcomes. Further studies with larger samples are recommended to validate these findings and explore broader applications.

Abstract

Pregnant women with Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) can cause health problems for both mother and baby. Among them are babies with low birth weight (LBW), who are at risk of stunting. The Pekalongan City Government issued Mayor Regulation Number 11 of 2023 concerning the Acceleration of Integrated Stunting Reduction, where the group of CED pregnant women is one of the targets of Stunting-prone Families who need specific and sensitive interventions. This study aimed to analyze implementation of the policy, especially sensitive interventions of CED pregnant women in Pekalongan City. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The research was conducted from August to September 2024. The object of the study was the implementation of sensitive interventions of CED pregnant women which was analyzed with Van Metter-Van Horn policy implementation model. The research was conducted through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. The determination of informants used a non-probability technique with a purposive method, and 11 informants were obtained. The stages in data analysis were data collection, reduction, presentation, data verification and conclusion drawn. The results of the study found that sensitive interventions in form of access to clean drinking water and sanitation, housing improvement programs, social assistance recipient programs and training facilitation for families of CED pregnant women are still not optimal. Pregnant women in CED had not been considered as a priority in obtaining the benefits of assistance programs. It needed to be improved again in policy socialization, quality and quantity of resources, coordination and communication, and improvement of the environmental situation.
