Abstract

The article presents scientific analytical conclusions on the established opinions about literary-theoretical views related to the literary life, psychology of creativity, writer’s skillfulness, spiritual-educational world of a person in fiction as a result of special studies of the close and analogical literary phenomena in fiction writing.  On the material of the novel “Godfather” by a prominent American writer of the XXth century Mario Puzo and “Shaytanat” (“Band of Devils”) by Uzbek writer Tokhir Malik, the society’s stability and negative factors influencing social-spiritual life of the society are analyzed.

Abstract

This study investigated interactional features performed by English teacher during teaching learning process in classroom interaction, how the teacher performed it, and how interactional features helped the teacher to achieve pedagogic goal. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data was collected by using audio-video recording and field notes. The result showed that the English teacher performed eleven interactional features out of fourteen in the classroom those are scaffolding, direct repair, content feedback, extended wait-time, seeking clarification, confirmation check, teacher echo, teacher interruption, extended teacher turn, display question and extended learner turn. Related to pedagogic goal, only teacher interruption did not help the teacher in achieving any pedagogic goal.

Abstract

Teaching English as Foreign Language emphasizes on teaching discourse in the classroom. This paper is presented focusing on conceptual paper in teaching reading. Specifically, this study focuses on written discourse discussing on the use of narrative text to teach students’ reading skill. In foreign language teaching, teaching reading is one of important goal that students want to achieve. This paper focuses on one of English text type that is narrative text. It covers the theoretical basis dealing with the method of teaching reading, the use of narrative text that applies the text discourse analysis and the use of story grammar strategy. Furthermore, it also covers the teaching procedure (pre-teaching, whilst-teaching, post-teaching), reflection, and conclusion. Finally, it presents the reflection and conclusion of this analysis. The result shows that students’ comprehension can be enhance through story grammar in the teaching of reading narrative text along with appropriate assessment for them.

Abstract

Speaking is considered the most important skill of language especially English because having ability to speak is one of the evidence that someone has good proficiency of the language itself. Therefore, it is very urgent to teach speaking to the students in order that they master it well. To teach speaking, the teacher must design learning activities as well as possible and it also must be supported by various teaching media especially visual media such as pictures, realia, television etc. in order that learning activities is more various, interesting and motivates students to participate actively. The presence of visual media presents different learning experience which can stimulate students to think creatively so that they always get new idea to express when they want to speak. Therefore, the more various the teacher uses the media, the better learning objectives students achieve

Abstract

English is getting more crucial to be mastered since its important part in the world nowadays.  It is not only as a means of communication but also a means transferring knowledge, news, and technology around the world. There are four basic skills in English such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing, every students must have problem in learning and mastering those skill. But writing is the main issue to be discussed in this article.  In writing, some of the writer’s students feel difficult to determine the topic when they want to write, they are hardly to complete a writing paper because they run out of idea. In this case the students need to absorb some information to understand a word, including how to combine a word with the other words. Therefore the teacher should have a strategy to get the students understanding and overcome their problems.Teaching is about just how to encourage the learners to achieve their goals and other times it requires that we actually facilitate resources and foster experiences so students can learn, continue learning and love the process. It is an art of the teacher to know how to make the students able to create knowledge of their own. Brainstorming is one of the teaching techniques in writing that can encourage the students to think about the topic as many as possible. This technique is help the students to enrich their vocabularies then create an idea become a writing composition. By using this strategy the students will be able to improve their writing skill. Brainwriting is an alternative method to brainstorming that tries to encourage a more uniform participation within a group. Like brainstorming, it is designed to generate lots and lots of ideas in a short amount of time.

Abstract

Considering the important of understanding about the attitude, motivation and the personality of the students in the English learning process, this research is aimed at finding the relationship between attitude and motivation which are acknowledged as influential factors in speaking achievement across their personality factors. Sixty Non-EFL students of Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang who take English as their compulsory subject were participated as the research sample. They were the fourth semester undergraduate taking TOEFL and Speaking Course. Attitude and Motivation Test Battery (AMTB), The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), speaking test and TOEFL-like test were administered. The results of this research revealed that there was significant correlation among attitude, motivation and speaking achievement of extrovert and Introvert students.

Abstract

Speaking means to express ideas orally. By expressing what is in mind, a speaker can make others understand things inside his/her mind. In order to make the others capture and understand what he/she expresses orally, a student should needs to pay attention on the signs that should be fulfilled. How to develop the assessment instrument of the students’ speaking ability? Therefore the writer used qualitative research design to describe the way to develop the assessment instrument of the students’ ability. The result showed that Developing speaking test is not as easy as other tests because a test developer has to prepare the mechanism or direction and instruction well in order to keep the test valid in which the test developer used content validity to prove that the test was valid. In keeping the reliability the test developer used inter- rater and Pearson Product Moment formula. In fact, content validity, inter-rater and Pearson Product moment formula are proper to assess speaking test. This study will be useful for the English teachers in increasing the ability of the students in speaking by assessing the students’ capability in good ways.

Abstract

One of the distinguishing features between the ruling class with the lower class is language. The higher stratum of someone then he has a tendency to use the language as well as, as smooth as, or as a good order as possible. But this credo does not apply to Basuki Tjahaja Purnama called  Ahok, as Head of Jakarta region,  he communicates in a language far from polite, smooth, and well,  sometime he uses rough language, gratuitous, even invective. Ahok selected to be analyzed because in the social fact Ahok is deemed to have a behavior that is controversial that reveals the good government jargon without corruption and nepotism with languages that are far from a good order of language used by the elits. This article tries to analyze and compare the language of politics that used by Ahok that represent the ruling class of the ruling in a metropolis and became the capital of the State in the reform era (freedom) with the language used in the era of Soeharto.

Abstract

This paper tries to discuss the relationship between the EFL teachers’ beliefs and their teaching practice. It is interesting to note that practically being exposed to the same materials, curriculum, students and environment, teachers conduct their teaching in varied ways. It can be seen from how students receive and build their image about their teachers. It also reflects the effectiveness of the practice they do. Therefore, it will be very useful to understand whether their teaching practice, including class and curriculum management, is influenced by their beliefs or not. This article embraces the theoretical review and previous studies conducted in this field.  This will lead to how teachers should understand about themselves and their profession, consecutively they will be able to develop their competence through activities that can enhance their positive beliefs which will enlighten their teaching practice and maintain effective teaching practice in their classroom.

Abstract

Verbal communication in the development of  learning of the Arabic Language based media bithaqah jaibiyah, is a must for every teacher of Arabic language in any development of tazwidul mufrodat which in the end going to support, encourage and motivate students, both in speaking skills (maharah al-kalam), Listening (maharah istima’), reading (maharah qiro’ah), and also writing (maharah kitabah). Verbal communication in teaching learning of arabic by  using media bithaqah al-jaibiyah, can be done and applied through two activities at once in any learning, namely: pre workout communication and communication exercises. In pre workout communication, there are some techniques which is very possible, such as : memorization of the dialog (al-hifdz ‘ala al-hiwar), dialog through images (al-hiwar bi al-suwar), guding dialog (al-hiwar al-muwajjah), a dramatization of the action (al-tamtsil al-suluki), technique on practice patterns (tathbiq al-namadzij). While the activities that can be done in the exercise of communication are, among others: group of conversations (al-hiwar al-jama’i), role play (al-tamtsil), social utterance practice (tathbiq al-ta’birat al-ijtima’iyah), field practice (al-mumarasah fi al-mujtama’), solving problem (hill al-musykilat). The Communication on Arabic learning through media bithaqah al-jaibiyah,  going to success if we could develop dan improve students  motivation, interests and talents of students itself in the use and utilize the  media bithaqah jaibiyah, that the same use proportionally and professionally by the teacher in the field of study of the Arabic language so that the out put that is produced in accordance with the expectations and targets set out in the standards of competence of graduates of a madrasah or school.
