MIQOT: Jurnal Ilmu-Ilmu Keislaman is a peer reviewed academic journal, established in 1976 as part of the State Islamic University of North Sumatra Medan (see: video), dedicated to the publication of scholarly articles in various branches of Islamic Studies, by which exchanges of ideas as research findings and contemporary issues are facilitated. MIQOT is accredited as an academic journal by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia (SK Dirjen Dikti No. 040/P/2014) valid through February 2019. Miqot welcomes contributions of articles in such fields as Quranic Studies, Prophetic Traditions, Theology, Philosophy, Law and Economics, History, Education, Communication, Literature, Anthropology, Sociology, and Psychology.

<![CDATA[Abstract: This study examines the relationship between the introduction of the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI) in 1991 and the shift of the attitudes Islamic court judges taking inheritance as a case in point. Prior to the introduction of KHI the judges are urged to refer to the classical works of Islamic jurisprudents in giving their judgment, the consequence of which gives the impression that there is no legal certainty in the decision of Islamic courts. The author argues that in post-introduction of KHI there has been a shift in the attitude of judges in determining biological status of an heir who had died prior to the predecessor. The author concludes that the emergence of the compilation has significant impact in improving the position of the Islamic court judges administratively, and that they were responsive to maintaining social equalities.Kata Kunci: KHI, sikap hakim, Peradilan Agama, ahli waris pengganti]]>

<![CDATA[Abstract: Nurcholish Madjid and K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid’s Neo- Modernism: Understanding the Development of Islamic Intellectual Thought. Since the 1970s Islamic thought in Indonesia has witnessed significant dynamics of development. Two of the prominent Muslim thinkers of this era are Nurcholish Madjid dan K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid both of which are commonly categorized as the thinker of Neo-modernism. Nurcholish developed such concepts as “Islam Yes, Partai Islam No!,” secularization, and secularism whereas Abdurrahman Wahid introduced such ideas as indigenization of Islam, pluralism and protection for the minority group. The author argues that both thinkers converged in the idea of making Islam as a cultural force that should be workable in whole process of nation and statehood. In this article, the author studies various aspects of Neo- modernism in the thoughts of Cak Nur and Gus Dur, as they are popularly called respectively, and analyzes the extent to which the social, cultural and religious aspects influenced their thoughts.Kata Kunci: Neo-Modernisme, Nurcholish Madjid, Abdurrahman Wahid, Islam Indonesia]]>

<![CDATA[Abstrak: Penerapan Hukuman Mati: Suatu Analisa Dampak Sosial di Arab Saudi dan Amerika Serikat. Sampai saat ini hukuman mati telah menjadi perdebatan serius tidak hanya di kalangan ahli hukum di Barat tetapi juga di negara Islam. Persoalan yang mengemuka apakah hukuman ini masih relevan untuk menjadi faktor jera bagi pelaku kriminal, kalau tidak, lalu hukum apa yang akan dijadikan penggantinya. Makalah ini mencoba mendiskusikan sejauh mana keefektifan hukuman mati dalam memberi dampak jera bagi pelanggar hukum. <![CDATA[Abstrak: Tren Baru Studi Sejarah dan Sastra Terhadap al-Qur’an. Dua buah karya yang dipublikasikan ilmuan Inggris dan Amerika pada tahun 1971, Hagarism oleh Patricia Crone dan Michael Cook, dan Quranic studies: sources and methods of scriptural interpretation oleh John Wansbrough merevolusi studi baik sastra dan sejarah al-Qur’an maupun masa awal Islam. Tidak satupun dari kedua karya ini mendapatkan pengakuan signifikan dari kalangan ilmuan Islam dan menuai protes keras baik dari ilmuan Barat maupun Muslim. Tanpa memfokuskan pada kedua karya tersebut, artikel ini mengeksplorasi keilmuan Barat terkini dalam kebangkitan dan upaya mereka menakar hubungan antara pendekatan sejarah dengan sastra terhadap al-Qur’an secara tegas menekankan kedua pendekatan ini bukan menjadi ancaman bagi Islam. Pada akhirnya ada potensi signifikan untuk menciptakan pembicaraan kreatif antara Muslim dan non-Muslim tentang karakter dan pesan al-Qur’an yang menyertai munculnya karya-karya oleh berbagai ilmuan yang menulis dalam bahasa- bahasa Barat dalam kurun waktu 30 tahun terakhir.Key Words: Qur’an, historical study, literary study]]>

<![CDATA[Abstract: The Role of LPTK in Creating Syari’ah Based Professional Workforce in Aceh. The Institution of Learning for Educational workforce (LPTKs) plays an important role in the process of producing professionals in their fields. This article studies the extent to which such institutional programs play, especially those mainly associated with the Islamic sya’riah implemented in Aceh region. The writer of this article argues that, in terms of quality, it can be revealed from how far the lecturers are capable of facilitating the students’ learning process and its relevance to teaching materials. <![CDATA[Abstrak: Ilmuan Rusia dan al-Qur’an: Perspektif Sejarah Perkembangan Orientalis Rusia abad ke 19 dan 20. Setelah keberhasilan Mullah Usman Ibrahim pada abad ke 18, studi al-Qur’an di Rusia sejak abad ke 19 tidak mengalami kemajuan signifikan. Kondisi ini berlanjut hingga G.S. Sablukov dan D.N Boguslavskiy pada akhirya menciptakan karya sendiri mereka tentang tafsir al-Qur’an pada masa paruh kedua abad ke 19. Perkembangan tradisi Rusia dalam pengkajian al- Qur’an semakin pesat ketika ilmuan Rusia yang lain, I. Yu. Krachkovsky, memper- kenalkan pendekatan baru dalam memahami dan menginterpretasi Kitab Suci al- Qur’an bagi masyarakat Rusia pada awal abad ke 20. Dalam makalah ini penulis mengemukakan bahwa sangat disayangkan, ilmuan Rusia memasuki era kegelapan dalam pengkajian al-Qur’an ketika regim Komunis Soviet menagmbil alih kendali pemerintahan dan memperkenalkan kebijakan dan propaganda ateistis pada paruh kedua abad ke 20. <![CDATA[Abstract: Improving the Role of Syariah Banking for Financing the Agricultural Enterprises. This essay attempts to discuss about the strategy for improving the role played by syariah banking in order to reach financial contribution in agricultural business. In this respect, the author argues that the roles of syariah bank could be maintained so that it can contribute more in to finance agricultural sector in the following strategies: to develop the number of syariah bank offices in agricultural environment, to deliver higher syariah financial contribution to agriculturalenterprises, to actively involve in product marketing of syariah banking finance for agricultural enterprises, to exclusively provide finance for syariah bank pertainingto agricultural enterprises, the purpose of which is minimize the potential harvesting failure.Kata Kunci: Perbankan syariah, pembiayaan, usaha pertanian]]>

<![CDATA[Abstrak: Metafor Sebagai Sarana Stilistika Pembelajaran Islam. Artikel ini membahas tentang berbagai tipe metafora yang terdapat dalam ayat-ayat suci al-Qur’an dan Hadis berdasarkan kerangka teori sastra dan linguistik modern. Sumber data utama dalam studi ini terdiri dari ayat-ayat suci al-Qur’an yang diterjemahkan dalam Bahasa Inggris oleh Abdullah Yusuf Ali dan beberapa matan Hadis dari buku kumpulan Hadis karangan Habib Muhammad al-Haddar. Tujuan analisis ini adalah untuk memaparkan bukti kuat bahwa metafora merupakan alat stilistika ‘stylistic device’ yang dipergunakan secara luas dalam al-Qur’an dan al-Hadis dalam menyampaikan ajaran Islam. Hasil dari studi ini menunjukkan bahwa semua tipe metafora dalam arti luas terdapat dalam berbagai ayat suci al-Qur’an dan al-Hadis. Argumen tersebut menurut penulis merupakan bukti yang sangat meyakinkan bahwa metafora merupakan salah satu alat stilistika dalam menyampaikan ajaran Islam.Kata Kunci:Stylistic device, metaphor, al-Qur’an, hadis]]>

<![CDATA[Abstract: The Relevance of Tasawuf Teachings in Modern Time.Tasawuf is a medium of getting oneself closer to God, based on the practices of the Prophet Muhammad and his Companions. In addition, the Holy Qur’an contains numerous verses urging muslims to do so. Sufi doctrines–such as zuhd, wara’, mujahadah, murâqabah, and muhasabah has in fact become part of religious traditions among Indonesians.
