MIQOT: Jurnal Ilmu-Ilmu Keislaman is a peer reviewed academic journal, established in 1976 as part of the State Islamic University of North Sumatra Medan (see: video), dedicated to the publication of scholarly articles in various branches of Islamic Studies, by which exchanges of ideas as research findings and contemporary issues are facilitated. Abstract

Abstrak: Kritik terhadap pola pengembangan ilmu-ilmu Keislaman terutama pada tataran perguruan tinggi agama Islam belakangan ini banyak mendapat perhatian di Indonesia. Tulisan ini merupakan deskripsi-analitis terhadap pemikiran M. Amin Abdullah tentang integrasi ilmu-ilmu Keislaman. Penulis mengemukakan bahwa ilmu-ilmu Keislaman yang berkembang selama ini bersifat fragmentaris dan belum memiliki keterkaitan dengan isu-isu kekinian. Karena itu, diperlukan upaya membangun epistemologi keilmuan integratif-interkonektif. Penulis menemukan bahwa epistemologi keilmuan teo-antropo-sentrik-integralistik Amin Abdullah dibangun dari pengelompokan keilmuan. Teorinya dimulai dari al-Qur’an dan Sunnah, kemudian ‘Ulûm al-Dîn, al-Fikr al-Islâmy, dan Dirâsah al-Islâmiyyah. Keempat kategori keilmuan Islam tersebut dipetakan oleh Amin Abdullah ke dalam empat lingkar lapis peta konsep spider web, dengan memadukan seluruh disiplin ilmu sosial dan keagamaan vis-à-vis isu- isu kontemporer.Abstract: The Integration of Islamic Sciences in the Perspective of M. Amin Abdullah. Criticism on the pattern of Islamic sciences development in Indonesia, especially at the level of Islamic religious higher education, has caught the attension of many critiques. This essay tries to analytically describe M. Amin Abdullah’s thought who promotes the concept of Islamic sciences integration. The writer maintains that Islamic sciences thus far, have still fragmentary in nature and have not yet interconnected with contemporary issues. As such, it is required to build the epistemology of integrated and interconnected science. The writer finds that theo-anthropocentric-integralistic epistemology of science of Amin Abdullah is developed against the backdrop of classification of science. His theory departs from the Qur’an and Sunnah, ‘Ulûm al-Dîn, al-Fikr al-Islâmy, and Dirâsah al-Islâmiyyah. Those categories of Islamic sciences are drawn by Amin Abdullah into four-layered concept mapping of spider web. Abstract

Abstrak: Tafsir al-Azhar adalah sebuah masterpiece dan merupakan manifestasi corak pemikiran serta aspirasi HAMKA sebagai seorang ulama dan sastrawan terkemuka. Karya ini sarat dengan berbagai pesan pembaharuan dan ide-ide kritis yang menggugah pembaca supaya bangkit memperbaiki kondisi umat Islam baik dalam aspek keagamaan, pendidikan, sosial, ekonomi maupun politik. Dalam kajian ini penulis berusaha melihat pengaruh Muhammad ‘Abduh terhadap HAMKA dalam perumusan tafsirnya. Penelitian ini merupakan kajian perpustakaan terhadap Tafsir al-Azhar serta karya-karya tafsir Muhammad ‘Abduh, disamping rujukan-rujukan penting lainnya. Hasil kajian antara lain menemukan bahwa Tafsir al-Azhar mempunyai hubungan yang sangat erat dengan gerakan pembaharuan tafsir yang dipelopori oleh Syaikh Muhammad ‘Abduh. Banyak gagasan pembaharuan ‘Abduh yang diadopsi HAMKA. Penulisan Tafsir al-Azhar sendiri mempunyai hubungan yang sangat signifikan dengan ketokohan serta jasa yang telah ditinggalkan oleh ‘Abduh.Abstract: The Influence of Tafsir al-Manâr on Tafsir al-Azhar. Tafsir al- Manâr is a masterpiece that has become a manifestation characterizes HAMKA’s thought and aspiration as a celebrated Muslim scholar and a man of letters. It contains various critical ideas and message of renewals that stimulate the reader to stand still and improve the aspects of religious, education, social, economic and politics of the Muslim community. This study is an attempt to see clearly to what extent the relationship between the commentary of al-Azhar with that of Muhammad ‘Abduh’s. This study is a library research on al-Azhar as well as Muhammad ‘Abduh’s al-Manâr.  The most important outcome of the study is that the interpretation applied in al-Azhar has a very close relationship with that of reform movement exegesis led by Muhammad ‘Abduh. Many an idea of ‘Abduh’s reforms are adopted by HAMKA. The writing of the al-Azhar itself has a significant connection with the scholarship profile and academic services that have been inherited by ‘Abduh.Kata Kunci: Tafsîr al-Manâr, Tafsir al-Azhar, HAMKA, Muhammad ‘Abduh

Abstract

Abstrak: Ilmuwan-ilmuwan modern telah berusaha mengkaji hakikat alam dengan beragam pendekatan. Teori-teori mereka tentang penciptaan alam didasari dan dipengaruhi oleh paradigma keilmuan masing-masing, dan terkadang perbedaan pendekatan telah memunculkan beragam penafsiran tentang eksistensi. Sebagian ahli memiliki kecenderungan membenturkan beraneka teori tentang penciptaan alam, dan menilai bahwa semua teori tersebut memiliki beragam kontradiksi. Lewat artikel ini, penulis melakukan reinterpretasi terhadap hakikat teori para ahli tentang penciptaan alam dan menemukan sinergitas antara teori-teori mereka. Penulis menegaskan bahwa tidak ada kontradiksi antara teori saintis, teolog, filsuf dan mufasir tentang penciptaan alam. Dengan demikian, teori teologi, filsafat dan sains dapat mengokohkan doktrin agama tentang alam semesta. Lebih penting lagi, artikel ini mengokohkan pendapat bahwa tidak ada pertentangan antara temuan akal dan informasi wahyu.  Abstract: Reinterpretation and Synergetic Theory of the Creation of the Universe. Modern scholars have made all due efforts to study the essence of the universe through a variety of approaches. Their theory on the creation of the universe is based on respective science paradigm, and at times different approach has led into distinct interpretation on the existence. Many an expert tents to conflict various theories of the creation of the universe, and conclude that those theories contradict one another. Through this article, the author reinterprets the focal point of such theories on the creation of the universe, and finds the synergy amongst those theories. In addition, he asserts that there is no contradiction between theories found within the boundaries of scientist, theologian, philosophers and the exegetes on the creation of the universe, and therefore, every single theory may support the truth of religious doctrine on the cosmos. Abstract

Abstrak: Tulisan ini mengkaji konsep pendidikan humanis dalam pengembangan pendidikan Islam. Dalam kancah pergulatan global dewasa ini kekhawatiran yang muncul adalah hancurnya rasa kemanusiaan dan terkikisnya semangat religius serta kaburnya nilai-nilai kemanusiaan. Globalisasi menjadikan dunia tampak lebih transparan dan terbuka, yang diibaratkan seperti kehidupan desa yang tidak mengenal jarak. Untuk mengantisipasi hal ini, diperlukan pendidikan humanis dalam pengembangan pendidikan Islam. Penulis berkesimpulan bahwa pendidikan humanis dalam bingkai pendidikan Islam, merupakan suatu sistem pemanusiaan manusia yang unik, mandiri, dan kreatif. Dengan kata lain, memandang manusia sebagai makhluk ciptaan Tuhan dengan potensi yang dimilikinya, dan membangun karakter dalam diri manusia yang menghargai martabat manusia sebagai makhluk yang paling sempurna.Abstract: The Concept of Humanistic Education in the Development of Islamic Education.This research examines the concept of humanistic education in the development of Islamic education. What is the main concern of today’s global struggle is the degrading humanity and diminishing the spirit of religiosity and human values. Globalization turns the world to be more transparent and widely open, which is akin to global village without limited by any boundary. To anticipate this situation, humanistic education is urgently required in Islamic education development. The author concludes that humanistic education in the framework of Islamic education is a unique, independent and creative system of humanizing human. In other words, it views humans as creature of God with all potentials, and construct human character that respect human dignity as being the perfect human creatures.Kata Kunci: pendidikan, humanis, Islam, globalisasi.

Abstract

Abstract: Persatuan umat Islam adalah aplikasi ajaran Islam tentang persaudaraan sesama Muslim (ukhuwah Islâmîyah). Pluralitas kultural umat Islam telah menjadi resistensi tersendiri bagi implementasi doktrin tersebut dalam masyarakat Muslim. Di Indonesia, keragaman mazhab, organisasi dan aliran politik telah melahirkan disintegrasi umat. Beragam konflik intern umat Islam menjadi bukti disintegrasi tersebut. Tulisan ini mengkaji gagasan KH. Hasyim Asy`ari tentang persatuan umat Islam. Penulis menemukan bahwa gagasan tentang persatuan umat Islam KH. Hasyim Asy`ari didasari oleh tauhid dan anti fanatisme dalam masyarakat Muslim. Kenyataan bahwa disintegrasi menjadi problem dunia Islam kontemporer telah membuat ide KH. Hasyim Asy`ari menjadi urgen, dan dapat menjadi solusi alternatif bagi problem umat tersebut.Abstract: The Contextualization of KH. Hasyim Asyari’s View on the Muslim Unity. The Muslim unity is a logical consequence of religious teachings concerning the Muslim brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyâh). The diversity of the Muslim community has become a challenge for its application. In Indonesian, the diversity of mainstream school of thoughts, organizations, and parties have given rise to disintegration of the Muslim society. The internal conflicts that come out from various reasons is an evident of that disintegration. This paper analyzes KH. Hasyim Asyari’s view concerning the Muslim unity. The authors find that the idea of the Muslim unity should be based upon faith and anti-fanatism. It reflects the concordance of faith and could be realized in anti-fanatism attitude in the Muslim society. Abstract

Abstrak: Artikel ini mencoba untuk mengulas metode penafsiran Jamâl al-Bannâ secara metodologis dan filosofis. Dimulai dengan upaya untuk mendekonstruksi interpretasi hasil dari semua mufasir klasik, Jamâl al-Bannâ mengusulkan tiga tahap dalam penafsiran al-Qur’an, yaitu pendekatan seni, pendekatan psikologis, dan pendekatan rasional. Ketiganya merupakan tahapan hierarkis untuk bisa sampai pada sebuah penafsiran. Setelah bisa sampai pada tahap penafsiran, Jamâl al-Bannâ tidak merekomendasikan metode tertentu atau membatasi ilmu pengetahuan tertentu sebagai metode analisa penafsiran. Ia menolak jika salah satu metode tertentu memiliki garansi sebagai satu-satunya cara untuk menemukan kebenaran, karena al-Qur’an tidak harus dibatasi. Dalam sosiologi pengetahuan, pemikirannya mirip denganAgainst Method (Anarkisme Metode) Paul K. Feyerabend. Bagi Jamâl al-Bannâ, manusia sangat otonom dan bebas untuk menafsirkan selama itu sejalan dengan prinsip-prinsip humanis dan universal yang terkandung dalam al-Qur’an.Abstract: Methodological and Philosophical Analysis of Jamâl al-Bannâ’s Qur’anic Exegesis. This article seeks to analyze the method of Jamâl al-Bannâ’s interpretation. Beginning with an attempt to deconstruct the interpretation of the results of all classicalmufassir, Jamâl al-Bannâ proposed three stages in the interpretation of the Qur’an that include such approaches as stylistic, psychological, and rational method. All three approaches are utilized hierarchically in order to come to an interpretation. At the rational stage of Qur’anic exegesis, Jamâl al-Bannâ didn’t recommend a specific method or limit the science to a particular method. He refused that one particular method has the warranty as the only interpretation to seek the way for the truth, because the Qur’an should not be restricted. In the sociology of knowledge, his thinking is similar to that of Paul K. Feyerabend’s Against Method. According to Jamâl al-Bannâ, human beings are very autonomous and free to interpret the Qur’an as long as it is in line with the principles of humanistic and universal values as enshrined there in.Kata Kunci: Tafsir al-Qur’an, Jamâl al-Bannâ, pendekatan seni, metode penafsiran

Abstract

Abstrak: Perdebatan Muslim-Kristen Pada Awal Era Abbasiyah: Studi Kasus Era Timothy I dan Theodore Abu Qurra. Kekhalifahan Abbasiyah awal meninggalkan warisan penting dalam sejarah dunia, melalui gerakan penerjemahan pemikiran dan literatur Yunani ke dalam bahasa Arab. Era tersebut menjadi saksi berkembangnya diskursus antar-agama maupun debat keagamaan Islam dan Kristen. Artikel ini berupaya mendeskripsikan bagaimana kedua poin sejarah di atas berkorelasi dengan faktor lain seperti politik dan identitas keagamaan. Debat paling awal berlangsung antara khalifah al-Mahdi (755-785 M) dengan Timothy I (728-823 M). Perdebatan keduanya merupakan contoh pertama diskursus keagamaan era ini. Contoh berikutnya perdebatan khalifah al-Ma’mun (813-833 M) dengan Theodore Abu Qurra (755-830M). Dengan mengetahui motif kedua khalifah dalam menyelenggarakan debat keagamaan, jaringan konteks periode tersebut akan dapat dipahami dengan lebih baik.Abstract: The era of the early ‘Abbasid caliphate made an important mark on the history of the world by the event of the Greek translation movement, i.e. the translation of Greek thoughts into the Arabic language. In addition to this development, the era also saw the flourishing of interreligious discourse, in both polemical literatures and religious debates, especially between Christians and Muslims. This article tries to describe how those two historical remarks are correlated under the light of other factors such as politics and religious identity. The earliest debate was happened between caliph al-Mahdi (r. 755-785 CE) and a Nestorian Catholicos, Timothy I (728- 823 CE), as the first sample of religious discourses. The second one is the debate between the caliph al-Ma’mun (r. 813-833CE), who arranged many religious debates in his court, with Theodore Abu Qurra (755 – 830 CE), Bishop of Harran. By knowing the motives of the two caliphs who sponsored those events, readers would catch a better picture of the historical contexts of that time.Keywords: Islamic history, Abbasid period, Muslims-Christian relation

Abstract

Abstrak: Islam mensyariatkan perkawinan dengan tujuan mendapatkan keluarga bahagia. Namun, kenyataannya, sering terjadi perselisihan dalam keluarga yang tidak dapat didamaikan, yang berujung pada perceraian. Penelitian ini bertujuan meng- ungkapkan faktor penyebab meningkatnya perkara gugatan cerai di Pengadilan Agama Padang dan menggali persepsi perempuan di Kota Padang tentang perceraian. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif,  data dihimpun dari dokumen Pengadilan Agama Kelas I A Padang dan wawancara dengan perempuan yang mengajukan gugatan cerai, hakim, panitera, pengacara, dan tokoh perempuan. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor penyebab meningkatnya gugatan cerai adalah membaiknya tingkat pendidikan, kesadaran hukum, peluang berkarier dan perubahan stigma masyarakat terhadap perempuan yangbercerai. Selain itu, perempuan di Kota Padangberpendapat bahwa cerai bukanlahhal yang tabu dan menakutkan, karena juga dilindungi undang- undang sehingga dianggap sebagai solusi ampuh dalam menyelesaikan konflik keluarga.Abstract: Woman Perception on Divorce in Padang Central City. Islam set down marriage rule as a means of acquiring happiness. In reality, however, it marriage conflict may occur, and often cannot be resolved and that it leads to divorce. This study is a qualitative study seeking to reveal the causes of increasing divorce rate in the Religious Court of Padang, and to unveil women’s perceptions concerning divorce in Padang. By using qualitative method, the data is collected from the documents of the Grade I A Religious Court of Padang, and interviews with those women who file legal divorce suit, judges, clerks, lawyers, and women scholars. The findings reveal that the undelying factors of divorce rate increase are due to women’s education improvement, increasinglegal awareness, the availability of career opportunities, changing social stigma against divorced women and weakening understanding of religious values among women. Women in Padang perceive that divorce is no longer a taboo and embarrassing, since grants womens’ rights to file divorce in the court, and thus seen as an alternative solution to.Kata Kunci: perceraian, gugatan cerai,khuluk, perempuan, pengadilan agama

Abstract

Abstrak: Pemikiran al-Qâdhî  ‘Abd  al-Jabbâr Tentang Qiyâs. Al-Qâdhî  ‘Abd  al-Jabbâr selama ini lebih terkenal sebagai pemikir ulama Mu`tazilah yang sangat mengagungkan supremasi akal, namun ia memiliki pemikiran di bidang ushul fiqh seperti tertuang dalam karyanya Al Mughnî fî Abwâb al-Tawhîd wa al-‘Adl. Dalam salah satu pembahasannya ia berbicara tentang kehujjahan qiyas sebagai dalil syara`. Tulisan ini berusaha mengelaborasi pandangan al-Qâdhî  tentang kehujjahan qiyas sebagai dalil hukum. Penulis menemukan bahwa `illat dengan sendirinya memiliki konsekuensi  hukum sekalipun tanpa adanya aturan syara’. Pendapat ini berbeda dengan pandangan mayoritas ulama Sunni yang menyatakan bahwa illat tidak memberi implikasi hukum, kecuali ada dalil syara` yang menjelaskannya.  Sebagai contoh, memabukkan dalam minuman keras sebelum ada syariat pengharaman bukanlah `illat pengharaman khamr dan `illat dijatuhkannya hukum hadd kepada peminumnya. Pemikiran al-Qâdhî ini tampaknya diwarnai oleh ajaran Mu`tazilah yang menjadikan akal sebagai penentu baik dan buruk serta alat bagi kewajiban menjalankan yang kebaikan dan meninggalkan keburukan.   Abstract: Al-Qâdhî ‘Abd  al-Jabbâr’s Thought on Qiyâs. Although widely known as a Mu‘tazilite ‘ulamâ who support the supremacy of intellect, al-Qâdhî also well verse in the realm of Islamic legal theory as reflected in his Al Mughnî fî Abwâb al-Tawhîd wa al-‘Adl. In one of his excerpt, he discusses the position of analogy as a base for argument in Islamic law which becomes the focus of this essay. The author maintains that according to al-Qâdhî `illat or cause by itself has a legal effect even though prior to the existence of God’s rules provided for a certain case. Such view is in contrast with those of Sunni majority who argue that Divine revelation is required for ‘illat to be legally effective. For example, intoxication in alcoholic drink prior to its divine prohibition is not a cause for its banning nor is it a motive for punishment of the drunken person. Such al-Qâdhî’s thought seems to be influenced by his affiliation with Mu‘tazilite creed in which intellect is highly admired for it can determine the good from bad thing, and it also function as a means of performing obligation and avoiding the bad things as well. Kata Kunci: Hukum Islam, qiyâs, al-Qâdhî  ‘Abd  al-Jabbâr, ushûl al-fiqh

Abstrak:Gerakan Islamisme Radikalisme dalam Islam terlahir tidak hanya karena faktor pemahaman keagamaan yang literal terhadap ayat-ayat al-Qur’an atau faktor derivasi politik, sosial dan ekonomi saja, akan tetapi juga karena faktor bacaan yang kurang tepat terhadap sejarah Islam yang dikombinasikan dengan idealisasi berlebihan terhadap Islam pada masa tertentu. Tulisan ini mengungkap bagaimana faktor sejarah gerakan lokal berkontribusi pada memunculkan radikalisme. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan historis dengan memahami kronologis dan proses munculnya radikalisme Islam pasca Orde Baru di Sumatera Barat. Penulis berargumen bahwa kemunculan radikalisme Islam semakin terbuka, terlebih ketika dihadapkan pada keinginan pengulangan periode sejarah kejayaan Islam secara eksklusif, tanpa disertai kajian yang komprehensif tentang Islam dan masyarakat Muslim. Penulis juga menemukan bahwa gerakan radikalisme Islam di Sumatera Barat memiliki ketersambungan historis dengan gerakan Paderi abad ke-19. Abstract: Islamist Movement in the Post-New Order Era West Sumatra. Islamist movement or radicalism  emerges not only due to the literal understanding of verses of the Qur’an nor is it political, social and economic factors but it rather due to inappropriate reading of Islamic history combined with an excessive idealization of Islam in a given time. This writing tries to unveil how historical factor of local movement had contributed to the emergence of radicalism. This study uses a historical approach, by understanding the chronology and the process of the emergence of Islamic radicalism in the post-New Order West Sumatra. The writer argues that the emergence of Islamic radicalism is open even wider when it generated with the desire to repeat the period of Islamic glory without a comprehensive assessment of Islam and Muslim society. He also argues that Islamic radicalism movement in West Sumatra has a close historical bond with that of the 19th century Paderi.Kata Kunci: Islamisme, pergerakan Islam, radikal, Sumatera Barat
