Abstract

The agricultural sector plays a vital role in Indonesian economic growth. The role of the agricultural sector had contributed 14.42 percent to national GDP in the third quarter of 2016 (BPS, 2017). The average production of food crops in Rote Ndao Regency is lower than the average production of NTT Province so that production needs to be boosted. The low rate of food production is caused by various factors such as natural factors, human resource factors, limited capital of farmers, and inadequate infrastructure. The Rote Ndao District government needs to address and anticipates these factors. The limitations of agricultural land encourage the selection of superior commodities following the Agroecology Zone (ZAE). Thus, research on superior commodities has been carried out using the Location Quotient (LQ) analysis in Rote Ndao. The results of the analysis show that for primary sector food crops (LQ> 1) there are Rote Barat Daya, Lobalain, Rote Selatan, Pantai Baru, Rote Timur, LanduLeko, and Rote Barat sub-districts. For vegetable commodities, superior sectors (LQ> 1) are inRote Barat Daya, Rote Barat Laut, Lobalain, Rote Tengah, Rote Selatan, Pantai Baru, Rote Timur, LanduLeko, West Rote, and Ndao Nusa. For fruit commodities (LQ> 1) are in West Rote District, Lobalain District, South Rote District, East Rote District, LanduLeko District, and West Rote District.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of different storage conditions and duration to the growth and development of microorganisms and pathogens up to a certain interval time. Therefore, the research will look at how the growth of bacteria in Se’i pork will be seen through the Total Total Count (TPC) in the condition of room temperature and refrigerator up to 5 days of storage time intervals. By treating the room temperature and temperature of the refrigerator with a storage time of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 days, the microorganism numbers will be obtained in these two different storage conditions for 5 days.  The results showed clear result of the growth rate and the number of bacteria between Se’I stored at therefrigerator temperature storage with Se’I at room temperature every day.  It is clear from the results that the growth of microorganisms greater in Se'i at room temperature compared to those refrigerated. Other results found that samples from one shop have already shown TPC number above the maximum standard for the total number of microorganisms allowed by Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) in smoked meat.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the production of organic matter, crude protein, nitrogen  free extract of  natural pasture forages which was introduced by different types of grasses and legumes which had been carried out on natural pastures in Tuatuka Sub-District, East Kupang District for 7 months from April to October 2017, based on randomized block design (RBD) with 5 treatments and 4 groups, namely: P0: Natural pasture without introduction, CP: natural pastura introduced by  Cynodon plectotachyus, DA: natural pastura introduced by Dichantium aristatum, DV: natural pastura introduced by Desmanthus virgatus, and C: natural pastura introduced by Clitoria ternatea. The variables observed were organic matter (OM) production, crude protein (CP) production, nitrogen  free extract (NFE) production of forages. Data were analyzed for variance based on RBD and continued with Duncan Test. Variance analysis shows that OM production, CP production and NFE production of natural pasture forages  are strongly influenced (P <0.01) by species introduction. Duncan's test showed that introduction with C, DV and CP produced OM, CP,and NFE production  of forage higher and different (P <0.05) with DA and P0. Average of OM, CP, and NFE  production of forage are: 2.38 tons / ha, 0.10 tons / ha and 1.18 tons / ha. It was concluded that the introduction of natural pastura with superior species was able to increase the production of OM, CP, and NFE forages and species of  Clitoria ternatea, Desmanthus virgatus and Cynodon plectotachyus producing the highest forage production.

Abstract

The productivity of tomato plants in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) in 2016 reached 4.70 tons/ha, increasing by 17.66% from 2015. However, the harvested area decreased by 6.74%. Based on the above data, there is an increase in tomato productivity in NTT but still low compared to national productivity of 15.31 tons/ha. Some of the possible differences in productivity, in addition to the decline in harvested area are also caused by inadequate cultivation techniques that include plant density regulation and other cultivation measures. The purpose of this study was 1) to examine the effect of plant density on growth and yield of tomato plants cut by apical buds and 2) to obtain the best size of plant density that can increase the growth and yield of tomato plants. This study used a randomized block design with a planting distance factor consisting of 8 treatment levels with 4 replications: spacing of 50cmx40cm, 60cmx40cm, 70cmx40cm, 50cm x 50cm, 60cm x 50cm, 70cm x 50cm, 60cm x 60cm, 60cm x 60cm and 70cm x 60cm. The results showed that plant density had an effect on plant growth, namely stem diameter and number of productive branches, and influenced the yield of tomato plants namely fruit weights, plant density/spacing of 70 cm x 40 cm and 70 cm x 60 cm had the best influence on plant growth and fruit weight per plant highest (1037.19grams/plant and 907.50 grams/plant) of  betavila variety.

Abstract

This study is entitled "Host Plants and Eating Ability of Keong Mas (Pomaceacanaliculata) in some Paddy Varieties in Malaka District". Keong Mas are type of snails which are considered as invasive pests. In Malaka, in 2010-2012 there was a snail boom which caused severe damage to rice to “puso”. This study had been conducted from June 2018 to November 2018. The research aims to study the host plants and the ability to eat of the snails in several rice varieties. The snails were tested for its ability to feed on water plants which were considered as alternative hosts of paddyplants. Host testing was undertaken through forced testing and selective testing of several aquatic plants in rice fields. The eating ability test was carried out on four weeks old paddy varieties cultivated by farmers in Malaka. Fifty rice seedlings were planted in a circle, ten seedlings perplanting hole and were repeated for four times. The number of seeds which were encroached by the juvenile snails was tabulated and analyzed. The result shows that 6 succulent plants were favored by the snails, namely Limnocharis flava, Colocasia esculenta, Ludwigiaadscendens, Monochoriavaginalis, Ipomoea aquatica and Cat tile / Sasoser (Typha spp). The most vulnerable paddy seeds to snails are Ciherang (a), Mapan, Impari 12 (ab), Mokongga (bc), IR 68, Sibogo, and Red Rice (cd), and the most resistant to snails' is Black Rice variety (d).

Abstract

Antioxidants are substances that can protect the body from various degenerative diseases caused by free radicals by neutralizing them. Plants that contain antioxidants, chemotaxonomically are characterized by chemical compounds derived from phenolics. One type of plant containing phenolic compounds is Soursop (Annona muricata L). This plant is one type of plant from Alor Island, East Nusa Tenggara, which has never been reported before. In this study, phytochemical screening and the antioxidant activity of Soursop leaf (Annona muricata L) using the DPPH method will be conducted. The results showed that the class of compounds contained in soursop leaves (Annona muricata L.) is a class of alkaloid and flavonoid compounds. Soursop leaves (Annona muricata L.) have weak antioxidant activity compared to Vitamin C, with IC50 values of soursop leaves of 292,727 mg / L and vitamin C of 117,140 mg / L but still, have the potential as antioxidants .
