Abstract

At present farming of  Kappaphycus alvarezii is one of the main sources of income for the communities and East Sumba Regency. One important aspect in the context of optimizing seaweed farming there is the determination of suitability of farming areas) based on oceanographic parameters. This study aimed to analyze the level of suitability of farming areas of Kappaphycus alvarezii farmed using off-bottom method in East Sumba Regency. The study sites ware determined by purposive sampling at the locations of Kaliuda, Kandora, Tanaraing, Matawai Atu, Wanga, Daharwali, Mondu and Walakiri. Primary data on the physical-chemical factors of the waters and the existing conditions of farmed were collected in situ in the field. Analyzed of suitability of farming sites using a matrix of suitability, weighting and suitability level according to Utojo et.al (2004). The results found that the conditions of oceanographic factors that affect the growth and development of Kappaphycus alvarezii were in the optimal range for temperature, salinity, and pH; and tolerated for currents, substrates, water transparancy, depth and nitrates. Temperatures range from 29.33 to 31.00?C; salinity ranges between 34.33-34.67?/oo; pH between 7.57-7.83; currents between 0.14-0.25 m/sec; depth between 1.17-2.67 m; water transparancy 100%; nitrates between 0.20-0.35 mg/L. Substrate between coral sand to muddy sand overgrown with seagrasses. The suitability level of Kappaphycus alvarezii farming sites in all sampling locations was Sufficient, this means that the sampling locations representing seaweed farming in East Sumba Regency have limiting oceanographic factors that can be tolerated. Key Words:  Kappaphycus alvarezii, oseanography, suitability level, East Sumba

Abstract

The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of  Probio FMplus on carcass component parts and abdominal fat of growing broilers.  A total of 150 day-old broiler chicks (unsexed, Cobbs strain) were used in the present study. The chicks were randomly distributed to 25 pens (6 birds/pen). The experiment was design by using a complete randomized design consisting of five treatments and five replications. The treatments were a control diet without the addition of probio FMplus in drinking water (R0), control diets added with 0.5% Probio FMplus (R1), control diets added with 1.0% Probio FMplus (R3), and control diets added with 2.0% Probio FMplus (R4). The variables measured were carcass component parts and abdominal fat percentage. The result showed that the treatments did not have any significant effects (P >0.5) on all parameters measured. However, numerically it seemed that the breast meat and thigh percentages of group of birds fed diets added with Probio FMplus were higher than those of control diets without Probio FMplus. In conclusion, the addition of Probio FMplus (0 to 2%) did not give any beneficial effects of carcass component parts and abdominal fat percentages. Further research is needed to evaluate the higher level of Probio FMplus. escortnavi Keywords: Abdominal fat, Broiler, Carcass, Symbiotic.

Abstract

Corn is a commodity that plays a role in supporting food security other than rice and soybeans. Corn is not only used as raw material for the food and beverage industry, but also as animal feed ingredients. Factors affecting maize production in East Nusa Tenggara are fertilizers, pesticides, planting and cultivation patterns, formal education levels. The role of agricultural extension is very important because it is through them that renewable knowledge and technology can be distributed to local farmers. This is what can support East of Nusa Tenggara to become a corn center and become a province that contributes to Indonesia through self-sufficiency in corn food. South of Central Timor (TTS) can be used as a pilot district in increasing corn production.

Abstract

ABSTRACTPutak is one of the alternative energy sources that can  used in poultry ration. However, the utilization of putak is limited due to its anti-nutritional factors especially fibre that could affect the gut health. Thus, it is important to potential feed additives that can improve the health of the digestive tract as well as the digestibility. Probio_FMplus is symbiotic probiotics produced by the Kupang State Polytechnic, but the study of using this probiotics is still very limited. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of Probio_FMplus on growth performance of grower broilers fed diet containing putak and without putak. Total of 192 unsex broilers were randomly alloted into 24 pens (8 birds/pen). The experimental design was 2x2 factorial randomized complete design. The treatments were R0P0 (control diet), R0P1 (diet containing no putak + Probio_FMplus), R1P0 (diet containing no putak + no Probio_FMplus),  R1P1 (diet containing  putak +  Probio_FMplus). The data was analysed by using general linear model SAS version 9.1 (2004). The results showed that interaction of probiotic and putak did not affect (P>0.05) body weight gain, feed consumption, and feed efficiency. Birds fed diet containing putak had higher (P<0.05) body weight gain compared to those fed diet without putak. No differences were found in birds fed given Probio_FMplus  and no Probio_FMplus . However, numerically birds received Probio_FMplus  had higher body weight gain. In conclusion, 1) supplementation of Probio_FMplus in diet containing putak and without putak did not affect growth performance of grower broilers, 2) Putak improved body weight gain of grower broilers. Numerically Probio_FMplus improved body weight gain of grower broilers. Key words: Probiotics, putak

Abstract

The partnership scheme is a kind of cooperation between business with the farmers in term of livestock business management. The partner farmer groups act as plasma, while the partner of companies act as core. In the broiler partnership, the partner or core companies provide farming production facilities such as DOC, feed, medicines, technical supervising and product marketing, while the plasma provide the chicken house and worker. The research was conducted to evaluate the performance of broiler chicken farmer an income with partnership system. Total respondents were 122 farmers who joined to broiler contract farming. This sampling was conducted using by proportionate stratified random sampling. The results of the research showed that the depletion, body weight, FCR and PI was significantly affected on income but harvesting day isn’t significant. The lower the depletion, FCR or the higher body weight and PI, made higher the income level.

Abstract

Agricultural development aims to increase production to strengthen food availability in order to meet the basic needs of the community in terms of quantity, quality and affordable prices, increase farmers' income by developing agribusiness-oriented farming systems. Food crops are strategic and attractive commodities in relation to the issue of increasing production and guaranteed availability. Food needs continue to increase in line with increasing population. Therefore it is necessary to research on the analysis of the development of food crop commodities using the Location Quotient (LQ) analysis and then to formulate a food crop development strategy that is owned by Rote Ndao District. This research was conducted in Rote Ndao Regency starting from March-October 2018. Data were collected in the form of secondary data and primary data. Data collected in the analysis using Location Quotion (LQ) analysis is then performed with a SWOT analysis to formulate a development strategy. Results obtained: Average food crop production can be explained that each district has a superior commodity (one district and one commodity) based on the highest LQ value, namely: lowland rice commodity in Lobalain sub-district, Paddy fields in Southwest Rote sub-district, Lobalain and Central Rote, Corn in the North West Rote sub-district, Peanuts in the North West Rote sub-district, Green beans in the North West Rote Sub-district and sweet potatoes in the North-West Rote sub-district. The priority strategies that can be carried out in the development of superior food commodities are optimizing agricultural land, diversification of farming in production activities and post-harvest processing activities to absorb available labor, cooperation between marketing of agricultural products, application of farmer selling price information systems, training in eradicating pests and diseases naturally, dealing with droughts and floods, providing online market systems. Keywords: Analysis, Development, Food Crops
