Abstract

Economic growth can be seen from the aggregate demand side, namely consumption, investment, government spending, exports and imports, and the aggregate supply side namely labor growth, capital growth and the growth of TFP (Total Factor Productivity). This study uses South Kalimantan’s Input-Output Tables of 2000, 2005 and 2010. The results showed that although the structure of the value-added of the mining sector remains the main economic pillar, but this sector has low linkages with other sectors. Based Multiplier Product Matrix, manufacturing industry suggest a leading role in the economy so that it can be said that the province of South Kalimantan are heading toward a change in the economic structure. Decomposition of sources of growth based on the Chenery’s model (1960) showed that the main source of economic growth in South Kalimantan is exports by 67 percent in the period 2000-2005 and 73.72 percent in the period 2005-2010, especially the export of coal. Decomposition of productivity growth made by Namura and Kuroda’s model (2004) and suggests that TFP growth and capital have a strong linear relationship and significant Output growth, while labor productivity have no significant correlation with Output growth. Finally, the wealth of the abundant natural resources, industry-oriented economic growth and sustainable development in South Kalimantan Province is agriculture-based industries and mining-based industries with the main strategy is to import substitution and investment in capital and technology. Keywords: Input-Output Tables, Multiplier Product Matrix, Decomposition of output growth, Total Factor ProductivityJEL Classification: C67, O47

Abstract

In this research paper, I attempt to investigate the impact of Payment for Environmental Services (PES) on the socioeconomic status of local livelihood. The socioeconomic status that I examine is total household expenditure to capture the nutritional well-being of people who live in an area where the PES project is implemented. Not only total household spending, but I also examine the poverty status of each household in the area of PES project. The area of PES project that I analyze are villages in the vicinity of Meru Betiri National Park, East Java and Segara Basin, Lombok. I use Indonesian Social Economy National Surveys (SUSENAS) by Central Bureau of Statistics Republic of Indonesia (BPS), before and following the implementation of two PES implementation projects to examine the effect of PES in each location and both locations combined. To discuss the impact of PES, I use Difference-in-Difference method and also incorporate Propensity Score Matching to have a better result. I find that statistically, PES project has little significant impact on the socioeconomic status of local livelihood. However, if I look at the magnitude of the coefficient of the effect, the evidence show that PES has affected local livelihood positively. Furthermore, the effect of PES project differs between each location. Keywords: Environmental Services, Socioeconomics, Propensity Score MatchingJEL Classification: O13, P28, R11

Abstract

This paper estimates the regulation affects in the plywood export market, not only on the quantity exported but also on the revenue earned from this product. Using panel data of this market from 2000 to 2014 and involving 58 countries as trading partner, gravity model which has been used in many studies of international trade will be adapted. Three models which are used in this study, which are pooled least square, fixed and random effect model, finds an indication that quantity exported and revenue earned after the implementation of the regulation is less than before. In pooled regression model, the quantity and revenue from plywood export decreased more than 95 %, in addition, fixed and random effect model shows similar result with the pooled regression model.

Inadequate capital was critical; this was attributed to insufficient sources of credits. However, improvement in the existing infrastructural facilities will help promote expansion of the present scale of the enterprise operations. Governments and other financial institutions should also do more to extend funds in the form of soft loans to the marketers, so as to improve efficiency. Keywords: Market; Profitability; Efficiency; Sheep; Small-scale; GombeJEL Classification: L10, Q13

Abstract

The agricultural sector poverty in Indonesia is affected by some factors like income and agricultural land area. Farmer exchange rate is an indicator of farmer welfare that can be a measurement of farmer real income. Farmer exchange rate tends to be increased from 2009 to 2013. Besides, the agricultural land area tends to decrease that time. Decreasing of agricultural land is caused by agricultural land usage conversion. This research aims to analyze direct and indirect effects of farmer exchange rate and agricultural land conversion toward agricultural sector poverty in Indonesia, with the objects of 33 provinces in Indonesia (excludes North Kalimantan) from 2009 until 2013. This research is using path analysis to obtain the result, with agricultural laborer variable and agricultural productivity as intervening variables. Abstract

Since the establishment of China and South Korea diplomatic relations in 1992, South Korea has become one of the most biggest trade partners for China. Therefore, this paper applies annual data from 1998 to 2016 to search for the dynamic operating mechanism between export from China to South Korea and economic growth in China. The vector error correction model is utilized to conduct an empirical analysis. The results indicate that there is a long-run relationship between them. Namely, if the export from China to South Korea increases by 1%, the economic growth in China will increases by 0.769%. Meanwhile, the result of Granger causality test also reveals that there is an unidirectional causality between them exists under 5% significance level. More importantly, the result of vector error correction mechanism shows that when the economic growth is derivate from the long-run equilibrium in the short run, it will return to the long-run equilibrium by 2.2%.Keywords: Economic Growth, Export from China to South Korea, Vector Error Correction ModelJEL Classification: C02, F10, F19
