Abstract

Health issues are important in the world of education, including in Islamic boarding schools. To support the health status of santri (students at the Islamic boarding school), Islamic boarding schools need to facilitate them through Pos kesehatan pesantren or Poskestren (Islamic Boarding School Health Center). This community service aimed to establish a Poskestren at an Islamic boarding school. The methods adopted in this community service included advocacy, education, socialization, promotion, and empowerment for santri. This study used action research design. There is collaborative between researcher and student in Islamic boarding school. We collected data by survey, taking action and evaluating action. Data analysed used descriptive. The result of this community service showed the establishment of a Poskestren was supported by all parties, and a special room was provided for this health service with the necessary facilities and infrastructure at Kampung At-Tauhid Islamic Boarding School. In addition, this community service also established Kader Santri Husada (Santri Husada Cadres) consisting of nine santri whom the campus and community health center had trained regarding emergencies, use of medical devices, personal hygiene, and prevention of sexually deviant behavior. It is expected that the Poskestren can provide services for all communities at the Islamic boarding school on an ongoing basis. It is also expected that the Islamic boarding school and community health center can continue the development of this Poskestren service.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition that results from chronic malnutrition during childhood in low- and middle-income countries. The national prevalence of stunting in children under 5 years is 9 million children out of 24.5 million children. Factors that contribute to stunting include poor feeding and sanitation practices. The purpose of this community service is to provide education to health cadres in the Jaya Mekar Health Center area, West Bandung, regarding parental feeding practices as an effort to prevent stunting. The community service method is to provide education to health cadres through parental feeding booklets. This community service was carried out for 1 day, 10-10-2022, with 26 RW represented by 36 cadres in the Jaya Mekar Public Health Center area, Bandung Barat. The benefits of Community Service are expected after the cadres know about parental feeding, then it becomes a cadre education strategy for mothers (community) about how to give good food for children. The result of this education increases the knowledge of cadres significantly (0.019; 0.001) before and after providing education about parental feeding, then it becomes a cadre education strategy for mothers about how to give good food to children. Recommendations are needed for further programs to monitor cadres in providing education to mothers.

Abstract

Attempts to formalise artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) have failed in most areas where illegal ASM occurs. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of Africanisation in promoting the formalisation of the ASM sector of South Africa. Due to the acute lack of employment and other challenges associated with ASM, it is essential to ensure that the sector is appropriately formalised to allow communities to benefit fully whilst minimising any negative impacts emerging from ASM. In this qualitative exploratory research, data was collected using semi-structured questionnaires from 15 participants and was analysed using thematic analysis. It was found that the over-reliance on capitalistic ideals in allocating mining opportunities is one of the main reasons why past formalisation attempts have failed to produce desired outcomes. This is probably because there is poor communication between the state and the mining communities, and this means the aspirations of the communities are not considered when creating mining policies. The researchers, therefore, proposed an alternative approach to govern the mining sector, and this approach takes advantage of the tendency of Africans to work as communities. This approach is based on the idea of Africanisation. Facilitating the exploitation of mineral resources by communities rather than individuals, as is the case in capitalistic societies, will help empower communities since the mining enterprises will benefit more individuals and proceeds from the mining enterprises will help stimulate local economic development.

Abstract

The rapid population growth in Panongan, a subdistrict within Tangerang Regency, has surpassed regional averages, with rates of 6.5%, 3.4%, and 2.7% for Panongan, Tangerang Regency, and Banten Province respectively. This demographic surge presents challenges in terms of economic, social, and population-related issues while also offering avenues for market expansion and novel economic prospects. This study aimed to elucidate the application of Islamic value-based empowerment for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through the community engagement program executed by the Faculty of Economics and Business Islam at the University of Cendekia Abditama Tangerang. The program was designed to assist 20 MSMEs in Panongan Subdistrict. Employing Participatory Action Research (PAR), which emphasizes collaboration between researchers and the targeted MSME communities, this study investigated the effects of Islamic value-based empowerment on business aspects. The findings revealedthat this approach enhances Islamic value-based empowerment on the economic aspect, business ethics aspect, marketing aspect, packaging design, bookkeeping, legal aspects, and fiqh muamalah aspect among MSMEs. This empowerment has consequently created extensive prospects for business expansion, contributing to increased prosperity.

Abstract

The Jogja Smart Province (JSP) is a framework for using IT to encourage regional cooperation to assist in resolving specific strategic challenges or difficulties. Additionally, JSP supports the growth of potential in Yogyakarta’s Special Region. Several digital apps, including mobile and web-based ones, support JSP. These applications are crucial to actualizing the five JSP aspects of smart living, culture, society, environment, and governance. However, several significant issues, such as cyberattacks on JSP applications, pose a danger to the long-term viability of JSP. To do penetration testing of JSP-owned applications, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at the Vocational College of Universitas Gadjah Mada is conducting this community participation initiative. The Communication and Informatics Office of the Special Region of Yogyakarta permitted to handle JSP apps, is a partner in this community involvement initiative. Applications including Jogja Istimewa, Visiting Jogja, e-Prima, BiroHukum, Paperless, Jogjaplan, LPSE, Peladen, Sadewa, Jogjaprov, and Simpeg2 are among those targeted for penetration testing. The potential flaws detected in JSP applications can be found by performing penetration testing on these apps. In addition, several recommendations are made to strengthen JSP applications’ resistance to future cyberattacks. Therefore, this activity can improve the security of the users’ data and directly impact the community.

Abstract

Establishing the National Tourism Strategic Area of Borobudur leaves challenges related to the surrounding villages. Most areas surrounding the Borobudur Temple, especially those in Menoreh Hills, have a high potential as a natural tourist destination. The main attractions are related to sightseeing and spring tourism. These potential attractions, however, have yet to be managed optimally due to the lack of resources of the surrounding villages, materially or socially. Our primary purpose is to reactivate the tourism potential in Giripurno Village by developing a new tourist attraction Winong Spring. We developed the new tourist attraction by structuring the current Winong Spring using lightweight, flexible, yet solid designs and building materials. We also revitalized abandoned fish ponds to become an integral Winong Spring tourist attraction feature. The tourist attraction developed at Winong Spring area becomes a new economic potential for Giripurno Village. The community receives the prospective tourist attraction of Winong Spring, which is also reflected in the high community participation in its development. It is also responding to the rising trending river tourism in Indonesia. Properly managed, the new prospective tourist attraction will benefit both ecosystem and economy. Thus, capacity building for tourism management and fish cultivation must be done. In addition, cohesive coordination from all stakeholders is required to guarantee the sustainability of the new potential tourist attraction.

Abstract

Stunting is one of the world’s most serious public health issues, with significant morbidity rates, especially in Indonesia. Low public awareness of stunting and low family income are two major causes discovered especially in Special District of Yogyakarta. This community service project was undertaken to address this issue. Following the completion of the situation analysis and problem identification, a community-based problem-solving strategy in the form of health and entrepreneurship education was developed. Three medical experts provided prenatal health education to pregnant women, followed by an ultrasound screening to detect any early anomalies related to stunting. For other members of the community, experienced entrepreneurs give entrepreneurial education, which was supported by workshops for them to immediately practice the material that had been presented. It was intended that the community’s excitement would raise health awareness about stunting and the level of the local economy, allowing the stunting problem in this region to be ameliorated. It was found that the provision of health education programs had succeeded in increasing the level of community knowledge regarding stunting. Ultrasound examination found that all pregnant women in the area had normal pregnancies and fetal conditions. Community-based interventions through health education and increasing economic welfare based on tourism villages can be used to prevent stunting.

Abstract

Tirtayasa village is one of the villages in the District Tirtayasa, Serang, Banten province. The Ciujung River traverses this area, which is one irrigation source for agriculture and Fisheries. The main problem of the Tirtayasa Village community is the lack of awareness of healthy and clean living, especially the problem of waste and the use of river water for daily needs. The communication model used in this service is through applying the concepts of behaviorism theory by J.B. Watson, with educational messages delivered persuasively. The method used is quantitative with an experimental method through pre-test and post-test. In these tests, we provided questions to measure public knowledge. The results of the activities in Tirtayasa Village are, firstly, the procurement of waste disposal sites so that people no longer throw garbage in the river. Secondly, the source of clean water for daily needs, especially for consumption, and thirdly coordination and cooperation between the local government and companies or factories that are indicated to drain waste into the river.

Abstract

Community health cadres are frontline health workers and essential allies in improving hypertension management and promoting health equity. However, the phenomenon in Indonesia shows that the support given to cadres in efforts to promote hypertension still needs to be higher. This article describes the community service program, especially health cadres empowerment in Tanjung Sub-villages, Sewon, Special Region of Yogyakarta, to optimize the capabilities of health cadres in promoting health and preventing disease. The methods to determine the lack in community used observation, interviews, and surveys. Action planning was carried out by including cadres, primary health care services Sewon II, head of sub-village, village youth organization. Implementation of the program was held in May 2023. The descriptive analysis was used for analyzing the preliminary surveys. The Wilcoxon test was carried out to measure cadres’ knowledge before and after the program was held as an evaluation. There are two main programs for empowering health cadres in this community: health cadre training and hypertension exercise to increase cadres’ innovation in doing exercise for the community. Both of these programs have been proven to increase the knowledge and understanding of cadres about hypertension, as well as improve the ability of cadres to carry out health screening and lead hypertension exercises. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon test, the pre-test, and post-test values yielded a Z value of -2.375 and a sig value of 0.018, indicating that there is an influence of the presentation of hypertension on the knowledge and understanding of the cadres. Community acceptance of this program runs well and the Tanjung Sub-Village’s Cadres independently are able to carry out health screening for non-communicable diseases, especially hypertension in their monthly Integrated Healthcare Center (Posyandu) program in the future.
