Abstract

This research was aimed to understand parental role in fifth grade students writing ability. Parent’s devotedly attached of literer was obtain to reveal parent’s attention to the development of their children’s writing ability. Children’s writing ability was obtained through writing tasks on the basis of two kinds of stimuli, serial pictures and audiotaped unfinished story. The subject were 189 fifth grade students of SD Ungaran I, SD Ungaran II, SD Bantul I, SD Cepit I dan SD Cepit IV and SD Karanggondang. The students were given the tasks of writing of both stimuli and the scale to obtain their parent’s devotedly attached of literer. The data was correlated by the means of Pearson’s product-moment, the result shows significant correlation between parental involvement and the quality of children’s writing. Higher correlations appear particulary on the aspects of parental care of leissure times, study times, and the aspect of parents’s provision for literacy facilities, in both groups. Abstract

Family has a responsibility in child’s well being, physically and psychologically. Family has important roles in educating and socializing children. It is the families a counselor should examine when children have problems with their life such as personality, or educational problems. The present research is aimed to make family profiles of children with such problems, on the basis of system approach. The profile is made on the basis of family characteristics as a system: family boundary, family rules, and sub-system interaction. The data was collected from Psychological Consulting Office of the Faculty of Psychology GMU. The information was obtained through in-depth interview as a part of counseling process, done by the researcher as a counselor. Fourteen cases then were content analyzed. The result shows that the families of the problematic children are characterized by: (1) vague or widely open family boundaries caused by relationships with extended families; (2) confusing if not inadaptive family rules; and (3) isolations, coalitions, low intensity, lesser warm and close relationships of family sub-systems. Abstract

AJI (Adventurous Juvenile Intervention) is a training program designed for increasing group counseling skill in a natural setting by using “learning by doing” and “experiential learning” principle. Through this program school counselors not only have an opportunity to participate in-group counseling session but also practic to become a group counselor. This research aimed to test the effectiveness of AJI program in increasing the skill of school counselor for group counseling. The subject was 21 school counselors of middle school (SLTP) from Sleman Yogyakarta (11 male and 10 female; 12 subject hold S1 and 9 subject got D3 Diploma Degree). Quasiexperiment method was applied. The results indicate that there is a significant difference in the subject’s skill in counseling before and after intervention (t = -15.617; p < 0,01). There is also significant difference in the knowledge of group counseling (t = -20.414; p< 0,01). The qualitative data can be concluded that the school counselors get a deeper understanding of group counseling and its procedure as well as their ability to lead a group counseling for students. Overall, both quantitative and qualitative data analysis indicated that AJI program is effective in increasing the counseling skill of school counselors. Keyword: Adventurous Juvenile Intervention.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine which were predictors of smoking behavior on adolescents. The subjects of this study were 75 male, aged 15-18 years, and smokers. This study were done toward Scale of Parent’s Permissiveness Attitude to smoking behavior, Scale of peer influence, Scale of Psychological Satisfaction, and Scale of Smoking Behavior. The hypothesis was that parent’s permissiveness attitude to smoking behavior; influence of peer, psychological satisfaction was predictors toward smoking behavior on adolescents. There was co-linearity phenomenon between psychological satisfaction and others predictor so that psychological satisfaction out of regression analysis. The result of regression analysis showed that F value = 22,468 (p < 0,05) and R = (R = 0,620 ate R2 = 0,384). This meant that parent’s permissiveness attitude to smoking behavior and influence of peer was predictors toward smoking behavior on adolescents. It could be concluded that parent’s permissiveness attitude to smoking behavior and influence of peer were effectively contribution 38,4%. Keywords: Smoking behavior, adolescent

Abstract

The aim of this study was to make an objective description about self concept of “Perempuan Marginal” (women in marginal social and economic status) by concerning the rearing environment characterization. The hypotesis was there is difference self-concept related in the rearing environmen. Data was collected from 77 subjects, 34 subjects upbringing by original family, 34 subject were reared in orphanage and the rest 9 subjects were taken from street children community. Data was gathered by Q-Sort test modification, observation, interview and also by Focus Group Discussion. Result shows that female teenagers from orphanage have the highest selfconcept, meanwhile female teenagers from street children community have the lowest self-concept. Abstract

Research was based on drug abused phenomenon of youth, which lead to the question: what the real caused and the effect of drug abuse was. The aim of the research was to find out whether there were correlation between self-disclosure and drug abuse, the drug abuse and sexual behavior, and the self-disclosure and sexual behavior. Here also to answer empirical research about why the interrelation between 3 variables above was existed and how those effect to one another. Subjects were 18-24 years old drug users in Yogyakarta and already graduated from or still in High School. Fifty-one subjects successfully participate this research. Researcher was using Quantitative Method for analyzing data, Product Moment Analysis and Regression Analysis, and Qualitative Method for answering empirical question about the psychological dynamics of drug abusers. The research was proceed by giving Self-Disclosure Questionnaire and Sexual Behavior Questionnaire to all subjects. Followed by In Depth Interview, Participant Observation, and finally Focus Group Discussion was conducted to 3 of them in order to have a comprehensive understanding about drug abusers. The result of quantitative data analysis shows there are no correlation between either sels-disclosure and drug abuse nor drug abuse and sexual behavior. Nevertheless, there is a significance correlation between selfdisclosure and sexual behavior. The result of qualitative data shows some substance dealing with drug abusers. The substances are the the first drug used started from trial and error, the effect of drugs abused to sexual behavior depend on each individual differences, and the users show unsatisfied relationships to their parents but has a high level of self-disclosure especially to the peer from the same sex.
