Abstract

Waves are a form of renewable energy that can be utilized and will not run out like fossil energy. In this study, the design of marine building structures for Wave Energy Converter (WEC) devices was carried out using the VDI 2222 method. This method begins with the planning process to produce the product and its technical demands are regular until the completion process. After knowing the value of the Combined Function Alternative (CFA) that CFA II has the highest percentage value in the aspects of technical and economic assessment, the next step is the embodiment of the design in the specification of the (WEC) layout engineering drawing form. The design results of the (WEC) device were obtained with the dimensions of total height: 5.00 m; Width: 1.5 m; and Length:1.5 m. The trial was carried out at Tanjung Pasir Beach on November 12-13, and it works optimally to withstand the dynamic load of sea waves and is able to become a supporting component of the Wave Energy Conversion device machine at a maximum sea depth of 3.00 meters with waves as high as 1.5 meters.

Abstract

he utilization of water energy to generate electrical energy is carried out using a technology called Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA). Hydroelectric power plant simulation tools that use software are indeed practical, where students immediately get data and graphs of test results, however, as a result, students do not understand the measuring tools at all. And do not know how to measure data obtained in practicum. The hydroelectric system simulation tool located in the mechanical engineering laboratory of Mercu Buana University experienced trouble with the software so it could not be used. An analysis will be carried out on the hydroelectric simulation tool that will be modified. Therefore, the simulation tool needs to be modified, the modification is done using the VDI 2221 method. Modification of the hydroelectric system simulation tool with the VDI 2221 method so that it can display water discharge, turbine RPM, regulate turbine torque, generator output voltage and amperage. Based on the design results using the VDI 2221 method, 5 variant combinations were produced. Where the design variant 5 best meets the criteria and parameters that suit the needs of the hydroelectric system simulation tool, with an OWV value of 7.76 greater than other variant combinations. This OWV value is an ideal solution that suits the needs. Data processing from the test resulted in a pump brake horsepower of 946 watts, a pump water horsepower of 407.7 watts, a turbine power of 243.99 watts, and a generator output power of 175.2 watts.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of spring pitch on energy storage capacity by analyzing the behavior of a spring-loaded Tamiya car system impacted by a cue ball rolling down an inclined plane. Springs with varying pitches were tested to analyze the relationship between their geometric characteristics and the mechanical energy stored during impact. Using principles of energy conservation, momentum, and restitution, the experiment calculated the spring constant, compression distance, and corresponding energy output. Results indicated that larger pitch distances generally yielded higher spring constants and energy storage, leading to greater displacement of the Tamiya car. Data showed that spring’s ability to absorb and convert kinetic energy is significantly influenced by its stiffness, which is affected by pitch and number of active coils. The study validates theoretical models with experimental outcomes and supports the hypothesis that spring geometry directly impacts energy efficiency. These findings contribute to optimizing spring design for energy storage applications, particularly in mechanical and sustainable energy systems where energy transfer and compact mechanical design are critical.

Abstract

Penetrant testing is a non-destructive testing method used to detect welding defects on the surface of welded materials by applying a penetrant liquid. Its working principle is based on capillarity, namely the ability of a liquid to seep into small openings or defects. This study aims to analyze the effect of dwell time on the results and size of welding defects in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) using S355J2 carbon steel material. The dwell time variations applied were 1 minute, 3 minutes, 6 minutes, 9 minutes, 12 minutes, and 15 minutes. The test results indicate that variations in dwell time influence the readability of defect indications on the weld surface. The longer the dwell time, the higher the sensitivity of defect detection and the wider the defects revealed. The conclusion of this study demonstrates that selecting the appropriate dwell time in penetrant testing is crucial to obtaining accurate and efficient inspection results in detecting welding defects in S355J2 carbon steel.

Abstract

Solar Power Plants are one of the renewable energy sources that are widely developed because they are environmentally friendly and sustainable. However, the performance of photovoltaic systems is highly influenced by environmental conditions, component degradation, and the effectiveness of system management and maintenance. Therefore, a reliable and real-time monitoring system is essential to maintain the efficiency and reliability of solar power plants. The development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology provides an effective solution thru the integration of sensors, microcontrollers, communication networks, and cloud-based platforms, enabling real-time remote monitoring. This article presents a literature review on an IoT-based solar power plant monitoring system by analyzing various studies published between 2018 and 2024. The discussion focuses on the monitored parameters, system architecture, devices used, and communication methods and monitoring platforms. The study results indicate that the most commonly monitored parameters include voltage, current, power, module temperature, and environmental parameters such as solar radiation intensity and humidity. Additionally, the layered architecture of IoT systems has proven capable of enhancing flexibility, data accessibility, and decision-making effectiveness. Nevertheless, challenges such as dependence on internet network quality, sensor accuracy, and data security remain major concerns in the future development of IoT-based solar power monitoring systems.

Abstract

The increasing need for environmentally friendly energy sources encourages the development of renewable power systems, including Solar Power Plants (PLTS). Indonesia, with its abundant solar radiation, has great potential for implementing solar-based energy systems. This study focuses on the design and construction of a 500-watt off-grid PLTS system integrated with an Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system to provide an alternative, eco-friendly power source. The novelty of this study lies in the implementation of real-time monitoring through a NodeMCU microcontroller connected to the Blynk application, enabling remote observation of system performance parameters such as voltage, current, and power output. The research employed an experimental approach consisting of system design, component assembly, and performance testing. The main components include polycrystalline solar panels, a silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) as the solar charge controller, a 12V/35Ah battery, and a 500-watt inverter. The IoT-based monitoring system used the PZEM-004T sensor and DC voltage sensor connected to the NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller. The testing results show that the 500-watt PLTS system can stably supply a total load of 313 watts for 2.35 hours under optimal sunlight conditions. The inverter output voltage averaged 230 VAC, while IoT monitoring data corresponded with manual measurements, indicating reliable system accuracy. The PLTS system successfully demonstrated stable performance, easy maintenance, and remote monitoring capability, making it suitable as an alternative energy solution for areas not covered by the PLN grid.

Abstract

Abstract-- Dry organic waste has the potential to be utilized as maggot feed; however, it requires a specific particle size to ensure optimal consumption and nutrient absorption. The recommended feed size for maggots is approximately ±1 cm, making a shredding process necessary. This study aims to design, manufacture, and test a gravity-based dry organic waste shredding machine for maggot feed. The design innovation is achieved by positioning the electric motor and shaft vertically, allowing the material to utilize gravitational force for continuous shredding. The machine is designed using a 0.5 HP electric motor with a pulley and V-belt transmission system. Testing was conducted with waste mass variations of 500 g, 1000 g, and 1500 g. The observed parameters included shredded particle size, shredding time, yield, and actual shredding capacity. The results show that the machine is capable of producing an average particle size of 1 cm, with an average yield of 89.59% and an average shredding capacity of 171.84 g/min. These results indicate that the designed shredder is effective as a supporting tool for providing maggot feed from dry organic waste. Keywords: shredder machine, organic waste, maggot feed, gravity system
