Abstract

The solubility of aluminum (Al) which is high in acid soils is unavoidable. Solutions or strategies thatcan minimize the adverse effect of Al on soybean need to be obtained, by studying the response ofplants to Al. Al intoxication is a limiting factor for plant productivity. The purpose of this research wasto study the effects of salt form of aluminum complexes with organic acids and salts of aluminumcomplexes with inorganic acids on the rate of photosynthesis and chlorophyll content of soybean (Glycinemax) in the acidic growth medium. Research has been carried out experimentally in the greenhouse ofAgriculture Faculty Gadjah Mada University. The design used was Completely randomized design(CRD) with factorial pattern, and two-factors. The first factor was the kind of aluminum salt consistingof three kinds: without Al, Al-nitrate salt and Al-lactate salt. The second factor is the level of mediumacidity (pH) of growth medium with three level of pH value: pH 4, pH 5 and pH 6. Each treatment wasrepeated 3 replications. Variables that were observed included leaf area, the rate of photosynthesis andchlorophyll content. The results showed that the salt form of Al may affect rate of photosynthesis andchlorophyll content. complex Al salt form with organic acids (Al-lactate) can cause photosynthesis ratecompares favorably with the Al-nitrate.

Abstract

This research aims to find the best condition for the cultivation of fragment of Caulerpa lentilifera, to determine the factors that influence its growth in-vitro, and to identify the types of microbes associated. The study was conducted at the Marine Tech Laboratory and Marine Biology Laboratory of Udayana University. The study begins with the in-vitro culture of C. lentilifera seaweed at the incubator and the tank. The observations of the morphology and the seaweed growth to determine the suitable conditions, the influens of growth factors and microscopic observation to determine the types of microbes were associated. The best results in in-vitro culture in incubator was achieved by provision of 2 ml of PES in 500 ml of sea water, 5000 lux of light intensity, 12 hours irradiation and 100% medium replacement once a week. Best results in-vitro culture in the using net method was achieved by provision of 3500 lux light intensity, 12 hours irradiation and 70% culture replacement once a week. The microbes associated with the C. lentilifera came from the protozoa phylum, flagellate, and cilliata classes.

Abstract

Temporary storage ofthe rice seed during processing, their quality mostly affected by moisture content.Aimed of the experiment is to know the effect of moisture content to the viability of rice seed during processing (short or temporarystorage). The experiment was conducted at Laboratory Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University. The experiment results show that the interaction effect between moisture content and storage were highly significant to almost all variables observed. The most short dormant occurred at the treatment of 12-14% moisture content for all storage levels. The highest germination capacity obtained at the moisture content of 12-14% with two weeks storage period. The treatment of 21.5% moisture content for all storage levels caused the longest dormancy, with the lowest germination capacity as compared to that of other treatments. Physical tortureaimed to test the storage capacity, where the seeds were treated for 72 hours at 40oC temperature and 100% relative humidity, it was found able to break dormancy.
