Abstract

The Discovery of the Content of Giberellin Acid (GA3) in Extracts of Several Plant Spesies. Several studies have found that the application of growth regulator Giberellin can induce seedless in seeded varieties and also improve fruit quality in non-seeded varieties of grapes. It is also directly responsible for cell division and is used in horticulture to promote seed germination. The high price makes it unaffordable for farmers, especially in Indonesia, so it is necessary to look for other sources of GA3 which comes from extracts of plant species in Indonesia. The aims of this study were: To detect the content of gibberellin acid (GA3) in several plant species; The research was conducted at the Agronomy & Horticulture Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University. The results of the study found that fresh corn kernels (Zea mays L.), young bamboo shoots (Bambusa sp.), fern leaves (Diplazium esculentum), spinach leaves (Amaranthus spp) and shallot bulbs (Allium cepa), contained as much as 215 µg GA3 mL-1, 257 µg GA3 mL-1, 260 µg GA3 mL-1, 154 µg GA3 mL-1 and 227 µg GA3 mL-1 respectively. It can be concluded that extracts of plant materials contain GA3 and can be used as a substitute for synthetic GA3.

Abstract

Effect of AB Mix Concentration and Frequency of Liquid Organic Fertilizer Spray (POC) on the Growth of Pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.) Plants in the Deep Floating Technique (DFT) Hydroponic System. Pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.) is one of the vegetables that can be cultivated using a hydroponic system. Deep Floating Technique (DFT) hydroponic system is one of the hydroponic techniques in vegetable cultivation by using pools in installations and circulation with slow flow. The nutrients used in hydroponic cultivation are generally AB mix nutrients, but the use of liquid organic fertilizer (pupuk organik cair/POC) in hydroponic vegetable cultivation needs more attention to suppress the use of inorganic fertilizers. The study aims to determine the response of pakcoy growth to the addition of POC and to obtain the concentration of AB mix and the frequency of POC spray which gives the best pakcoy plant growth. This research was carried out from January to March 2021 in a green house with a UV plastic roof in Banjar Gentong, Tegallalang District, Gianyar Regency, Bali. Geographically, it is located at 8°48'38 south latitude and 115°28'04 east longitude at an altitude of 510-550 meters above sea level. The study used a Nested Randomized Block Design where the POC spraying frequency was nested at the concentration of AB mix. The data obtained from the variables were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance (ANOVA) according to the design that was carried out. If the treatment has a significant effect, then the BNT test at the 5% level will be carried out. The addition of POC spraying frequency on pakcoy showed a significant effect, the highest yield ware shown in the addition of POC spraying frequency once every 2 days at all concentration treatment levels. The combination of giving AB mix 1,000 ppm with the POC spraying frequency every 2 days (K3F1) gave the best growth for pakcoy.

Abstract

Adaptability of Fruit Flies (Bactrocera calumniata H.) to Cucurbitaceae Host Plants in the Highlands of Bali. Plants from the Cucurbitaceae family are one of the host plants for fruit flies. Plants grow in the highlands and lowlands. One of the pests of the Cucurbitaceae family is Bactrocera calumniata. Symptoms of fruit attacked by B. calumniata are having small holes that ooze fluid caused by the puncture of the ovipositor of female fruit flies and fruit that is attacked after a long time becomes soft in texture and smells rotten. The research was conducted in Candikuning Village, Tabanan Regency and Pancasari Village, Buleleng Regency, Bali Province. Based on research showed that zucchini and cucumber were attacked by fruit flies of the type B. calumniata. Abundance of population, percentage of females, and percentage of damage were more on zucchini plants than cucumber plants. So the adaptability of the fruit fly B. calumniata is better in the zucchini plant compared to the cucumber plant.
