Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' perceptions of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, specifically ChatGPT, in Arabic language learning at the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program, STAIN Mandailing Natal. Using a mixed methods approach and an explanatory sequential design, this study collected quantitative data through a questionnaire followed by qualitative interviews to explore students' experiences. The results indicate that the majority of students experienced a significant improvement in their understanding of Arabic language material, particularly in translation and writing, thanks to ChatGPT's assistance. This technology also enhances students' motivation and learning autonomy. However, several challenges were identified, such as inaccuracies in ChatGPT's responses, limitations in understanding cultural context, and the potential for excessive reliance on technology. This study concludes that while ChatGPT offers significant benefits in the Arabic language learning process, its use must be balanced with faculty guidance and digital literacy training to ensure appropriate and responsible use. Therefore, this study recommends the development of more adaptive AI-based learning strategies and the integration of ethical guidelines in the use of technology in higher education.

Abstract

Given the importance of textbooks that meet students' needs, this study aims to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the Grade 7 Arabic language textbook published by Kemenag in 2020. This textbook is designed to help students learn Arabic as a foreign language. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method using content analysis techniques, with data extracted directly from the textbook and analyzed based on predetermined criteria. The findings indicate that the textbook has strengths in its simplicity of language, theme relevance, and support for speaking and listening skills. However, it also has weaknesses, such as an excessive amount of vocabulary, insufficient emphasis on grammar, too many exercises, limited variety in learning media, and a lack of guidance for teachers on how to use the book effectively. This study is expected to contribute to improving the quality of Arabic language education in schools, particularly by aligning the content with the needs of non-native Arabic-speaking students

Abstract

This study explains and describes the problems faced in learning Arabic, particularly in speaking skills. Arabic is a second language learned by students at school, and as such, many students face difficulties when practicing speaking skills. The writing method used in this article involves library research as well as field observations through interviews with teachers, students, and direct observation, in order to obtain the expected research results. The purpose of this study is to explore more deeply the factors that influence students in practicing Arabic speaking skills and to identify possible solutions to those difficulties. The findings of the research reveal several factors that contribute to students' difficulties in speaking Arabic. These include a lack of vocabulary (mufrodat), diverse educational backgrounds or previous schooling, an unsupportive language environment that hinders the development of Arabic-speaking situations, and low motivation and interest in learning among students. To address this problem, the school should create a supportive Arabic-speaking environment as an effective step to improve students’ speaking skills, because through positive reinforcement and habituation, students will become more motivated

Abstract

The development of listening skill test materials using Moodle aims to produce Moodle-based test materials for third-grade Tsanawiyah students at Nurul Falah Islamic Boarding School, to determine the extent of the contribution of Moodle-based instructional media in improving students’ listening achievement, and to identify changes in students’ behavior after using Moodle-based media. The development procedure for the Moodle-based media follows five stages: (1) Analysis, (2) Design, (3) Development, (4) Implementation, and (5) Evaluation. The assembled Moodle-based instructional media were then assessed for their effectiveness. Based on the test results obtained from the use of the Moodle-based learning media, the pre-test showed an average score of 63.01, while the post-test average increased to 83.02, indicating a significant improvement. After using Moodle-based instructional media, students became more active during the learning process and more enthusiastic about participating in subsequent lessons. It is recommended that teachers make greater use of technological instructional media, such as interactive Moodle-based platforms.

Abstract

This study examines the assimilation of the Arabic language and Arab-Islamic cultural elements within Indonesian Muslim society through a sociolinguistic perspective. Arabic has played a central role in shaping religious identity across the archipelago due to its position as the language of the Qur'an, Hadith, and Islamic scholarship. Using a library research method, this paper analyzes 20 international scholarly journals related to language contact, linguistic borrowing, religious sociolinguistics, and cultural globalization in Muslim-majority societies. The findings indicate that assimilation occurs at the lexical, phonological, semantic, pragmatic, symbolic, ritual, and institutional levels. Arabic loanwords dominate religious discourse, whereas cultural practices such as dress, religious rituals, honorific titles, and educational traditions reflect continuous integration with local Indonesian customs. Sociolinguistically, Arabic functions as a marker of piety, identity, and group solidarity reinforced by religious practices, Islamic education, transnational Islamic movements, and digital media. This study concludes that the assimilation of Arabic language and culture is a dynamic and ongoing process deeply embedded in Indonesian Muslim identity and social life.

Abstract

This study examines the language attitudes of bilingual students in multicultural schools using a psycholinguistic perspective. The main issue of this study is how bilingual students' language attitudes are formed and the psychological and social factors that influence them in the context of multicultural education. The purpose of this study is to describe the patterns of bilingual students' language attitudes and explain the determinants of these attitudes. The method used is a systematic literature review of scientific publications from 2010 to 2024 that are relevant to language attitudes, bilingualism, and multicultural education. The findings show that students' language attitudes are multidimensional (cognitive, affective, and conative) and are influenced by language status and prestige, ethnolinguistic identity, peer influence, and school policy. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of additive bilingual education policies, strengthening teacher competencies, and creating an inclusive school language ecology.
