Abstract

Backgrounds: Borneo island is inhabited by various tribes such as the Dayak Bukit, Dayak Ngaju and Banjar Hulu. According to Radam (1987) and Tjilik Riwut (1979) these tribes have similarities based on theory of its origins, so the role of identification is required to distinguish people between the invidual in these tribes. Primary identification using dental morphology, one of themis shovel shape which is shown on palatal surface of incisors. Purpose: The research aimed to compare the characteristics of shovel shape maxillary first incisors among some tribes in Borneo. Methods: This research is an analytic observational study with cross sectional design, using dental casts of 156 people that consisting of 52 people Dayak Bukit, 52 people of Dayak Ngaju, and 52 people of Banjar Hulu. Shovel shape of maxillary first incisors observed with score created by Herdlicka (1920). Results: The results showed that the most characteristic shape shovel on Dayak Bukit and Dayak Ngaju are 2 (semi shovel) and Banjar Hulu is 1 (trace shovel). Data were analyzed using Chi-Square test with p=0,0001(p <0.05) indicate a difference in the shovel shape of maxillary first incisors among Dayak Bukit, Dayak Ngaju Dayak, and Banjar Hulu, then performed the Chi-Square test on each of two tribes to describe the comparison between tribes which have differences. Conclusion: Based on the comparison of shape shovel can be concluded there is a possibility of kinship Dayak Bukit with Dayak Ngaju.

Abstract

Background: A perfect polymerization is very important for good restoration. Good restoration is affectedby some factors. One of it is LED Light Curing Unit’s usage time. LED Light Curing Unit’s usage in which morethan five years ideal lifetime causes decreasing light intensity and compressive strength of composite resins.Purpose: To analyze the compressive strength value of nanofilled composite resins that polymerized with a new(never been used) and used LED Light Curing Unit’s. Methods: Laboratory experimental method (trueexperimental) with post-test only with control group design. First group with 16 samples as positive controlpolymerisez with new and (never been used) LED Light Curing Unit. The second group with 16 samplespolymerized with LED Light Curing Unit that has been used more than five years. Sample were molded with4mm diameter and 8mm thick. The compressive strength value is measured with Universal Testing Machine. Results: Independent T-Test showed p=0,000 (p<0,05), that means there was significant differences oncompressive strength’s value of nanofilled composite resins that polymerised based on Light Curing Unit’susage time. Compressive strength value of nanofilled composite resins polymerised by LED Light Curing Unitthat has been used more than five years was lower than new and never been used LED Light Curing Unit. UsedLED Light Curing Unit has decreasing light intensity outcome, so the photons that achieve the restoration isreduced and cause imperfect polymerization. Conclusion: Compressive strength value of nanofilled compositeresins polymerised by LED Light Curing Unit that has been used more than five years was lower than nanofilledcomposite resins polymerised by new and never been used LED Light Curing Unit.

Abstract

Background: Food consumption pattern is the composition of type, and amount of food material consumed by a person or population in a particular frequency and period of time. Data taken from 2013th RISKESDAS show that 75,5% Barito Kuala citizens over 10 years old have the tendency to consume sugary foods more than once a day. The high pattern of consuming sugary foods affects the dental plaque formation on tooth surface because strongly-attached plaque has great potential to induce caries. Caries plays an important part in oral health problems in Barito Kuala. Report shows that Barito Kuala citizens over 12-year-old have high caries history, even reaching 89%. This report is supported by 2007th RISKESDAS, which states that DMF-T index of Barito Kuala is 6.61 or very high. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the relation between food consumption pattern and DMF-T index of students in wetlands area of Barito Kuala. Methods: This study was quantitative analytical study using cross sectional approach. Data were collected using Food Frequency Questionnaire and DMF-T index sheets. 100 samples were chosen using cluster sampling method. Results: Data were analyzed using Spearman test with 0.001 significance (p<0.05) and strong correlation (r=-0,648). Abstract

Background: Dentistry science and technology, especially in the field of endodontics has experiencedrapid development. The advancement of dentistry has been able to keep the teeth in order to function as long aspossible in the mouth. Patient awareness to maintain current teeth is higher and prefer to be treated root canalon her teeth rather than revocation action. This is supported by the presence of advanced dental care techniquesand satisfactory results for the long term.Case: This case report aims at reporting that hemisection treatment is a treatment with considerable success.Case management: A 40-year-old female patient, coming to PPDGS RSGMP Dental Conservancy University ofAirlangga with complaints of perforated lower left molars, has often been patched but always loose and sickwhen used to chew food. Clinical features appear to be cavities in the left lower left occiput. On the objectiveexamination obtained negative vitality test, positive percussion. On the radiographic appearance radiolucencyappears to all distal roots extending to bifurcation, deep carious lesions, vertical fracture lines at distal roots.Treatment options are the hemisection and restoration of the metal fusion porcelain crown with cantilever on thelower left second mesial tooth. Conclusion: 4 weeks post-hemisection control is not found subjective or objective symptoms, it is expected thathemisection treatment with enough success rate to maintain the remaining tooth structure and functioning for aslong as possible in the oral cavity.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia has peatlands which spread all over the state and one of them is in Borneo(Kalimantan). More than three million hectares of peatland spreads in South Borneo. Peatlands have relativelyhigh acidity level with pH range of 3-5. The peatlands in South Borneo is generally used for farming or publiccemetery. In certain situation, peatlands is often used as a dumping ground for criminal victims. Sometimes, theauthority finds it hard to identify the victim because the body is already decomposed. To identify the victim andto analyse the cause of death, identification process is necessary. Teeth can be used to help the identificationprocess. Biological elements from the teeth namely dental pulp contains antigens that were useful to bloodgroupsdetermination by absorption elution method. Purpose: The objective of this research is to discover theeffect of peatlands acidity level and teeth submersions durations in determining blood-group accuracy fromdental pulp. Method: The method of this research used a quasi-experimental method to discover the effect ofpeatlands acidity and pre-experimental method to discover the effect of teeth submersions duration. Thisresearch used 48 pieces premolar teeth that were divided into 8 groups, control group, group submerged onpeatlands with pH 3,0-3,9, pH 4,0-4,9 and pH 5,0-5,9 to discover the effect of peatlands acidity and 1-day, 3-day, 5-day and 7-day groups to discover the effect of teeth submersions time. Abstract

Background: The prevalence of bottle caries in Indonesia is quite high at 48% is due to the high percentage of children drinking milk bottles which given while sleeping. Consuming milk formula using a bottle can cause caries, because the product of milk contain carbohydrates. Carbohydrate which contact with teeth will be fermented by bacteria become acid. This situation will cause the demineralization process that dissolves the enamel structure. Caries which caused by bottle feeding is known as Nursing Mouth Caries (NMC). Purpose: The purpose of this research is to know the difference of caries index of deciduous teeth between children who consumed milk with and without bottle. Methods: The target of this research is the students of Playgroup Islam Terpadu Ukhuwah Banjarmasin age 2-5 years with total sample of 80 children who were divided in to two groups, 40 children consumed milk with bottle and 40 children consumed milk without bottle. This research uses cross sectional design. def-t index is used as the measuring tool for deciduous teeth with caries. Results: The results showed that the index of caries in children who consumed milk with bottle is 5,3 which included in the high category, while the index of caries in children who consumed milk without bottle is 3,4 which included in the medium category. Statictical analysis of the results obtained value of p = 0,032 (p < 0,05) which indicated significant difference between the index of caries children who consumed milk with and without bottle. Children who consumed milk using bottle causing pool and contact with teeth. This situation will lower the pH of mouth and self cleansing diminished so that the process of demineralization happened. Conclusion: The conclusion is caries index in children who consumed milk with using bottle is higher than without using bottle.
