Abstract

Secondary metabolites are part of the discussion of Natural Product Organic Chemistry which demands a practicum process in lectures. This research aims to determine process skills through the application of inquiry-based worksheets on secondary metabolite analysis of three types of Indonesian medicinal plants. In the worksheet, there were several expected goals, including developing students' abilities in designing experiments, conducting experiments, and communicating both orally and in writing. The method used in this research was a One-Shot Case Study with 18 students taking Natural Product Organic Chemistry courses. The instruments used were learning descriptions, inquiry-based worksheets, observation sheets, assessment sheets (psychomotor, presentations, and reports). The results of the worksheet application showed that the students' ability obtain an average value of 84.15 with a very good category. The ability to design experiments, conduct experiments, and communicate orally and in writing obtained results of 77.16 (good categories), 92.50 (very good), and 82.80 (very good), respectively. This inquiry-based worksheet can be used in the study of Natural Product Organic Chemistry, especially in secondary metabolites.

Abstract

This research aims to development a REACT-based e-worksheet that is feasible to use to stimulate the critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication (4C) skills and determine student response. The challenges of a dynamic era require students to have a 4C skills set critical thinking and problem-solving skills; creativity and innovation; communication; and collaboration. One of the tools that can be used in online learning to achieve this goal is to use the electronic Student Worksheet (E-Worksheet) which includes the student's 4C skill values with REACT strategies: Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, and Transferring. The research chooses one of the topics in chemistry, which is introduction to chemistry and laboratories. This REACT-based e-worksheet was developed using the ADDIE development model which consists of five stages those are analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. In addition, the study used a sample of 10 students of mathematic and natural science 12th grade MAN 4 Tangerang. Based on the results of validation and student response questionnaires, REACT-based e-worksheet to stimulate students' 4C skills was declared valid and obtained an average percentage of 91.8% with very good criteria.

Abstract

This research aims to develop Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS)-based test instruments on thermochemistry in the form of a valid and reliable multiple-choice question. This research applied Research and Development (R&D) design by using the development model of Borg & Gall. The respondents of this research were 55 high school students which came from nine different schools. The research objects were multiple-choice HOTS questions numbering 20 questions. The research data was obtained by validating the thermochemistry HOTS questions by material and media expert lecturers. High school chemistry teacher as a reviewer who assesses the questions and tested on students. The results showed that the product quality assessment by material expert 92.00%; product quality assessment by media expert 92.00%; and quality assessment by reviewers (high school chemistry teachers) 94.89 % in the Very Good category. The trial result data from the students were processed by using IBM SPSS Statistics 24 and it showed that nine questions were valid but not reliable.
