Abstract

1. The present paper is the author's second revision of the genus Archidendron.The validity of the genus is briefly discussed.2. The genus has its centre of speciation in New Guinea. The number of speciestreated is 31, not counting a few insufficiently known species. A key is given to thespecies and varieties, which are described.3. The following are new species or varieties: Archidendron affine De Wit,A. calliandrum De Wit, A. dies-Christi De Wit, A. nervosum De Wit, A. parviflorumvar. longipes De Wit, and A. trifoliolatum De Wit.4. New combinations are: Archidendron gogolense (K. Schum. & Laut.) De Wit(basonym: Hansemannia gogolense K. Schum. & Laut.) and A.lucyi var. schleohterii(Harms) De Wit (basonym: Archidendron schlechterii Harms). .

Abstract

WARDANI, W., JAENUDIN, APANDI, I., KUSUMAWATY, A. & SANTOSO, W. 2021. A new species of Deparia from New Guinea. Reinwardtia 20(2): 57−61. — Deparia stellata is a new species of highland in Eastern New Guinea, described from a specimen found among unidentified piles of New Guinean Expedition in 1975. Its distinctive stellate-hairs on all axis and occasionally on rachis-scale margin are the main character that differentiate the species to other Deparia.

The genus Hymenodictyon is a genus of often large, often deciduous trees which is widely distributed over the African and Asian-Malesian tropics, with 11 species recorded for Madagascar.

Abstract

1.Papuodendron C. T. White is reduced to Hibiscus L.; the species is renamed:H. papuodendron Kosterm.2. Hibiscus hooglandianus represents a new species from New Guinea.3. New species in Pentace: P. microlepidota Kosterm., P. paludosa Kosterm. and P. adenophora Kosterm.4. Parapentace Gagnepain is included in Burretiodendron Rehd. As the species of Parapentace were published without latin diagnosis, the following new species of Burretiodendron are presented: B. tonkinensis Kosterm. and B. brilletii Kosterm.5.Two new species of Heritiera (H. rumphii Kosterm. and H. ornithocephala Kosterm.) are described; additional notes on H. littoralis from Madagascar, H. longi petiolata and H. arafurensis are presented.6. Heritiera burmensis Kosterm. is reduced to a synonym of H. macrophylla Kurz.7.Sterculia cubensis Urb. is referred to Hildcgardia; the curious distributional area of Hildegardia is stressed.8. A note on Hildegardia erythrosipkon Kosterm. is presented.9.Sterculia ankaranensis Arenes is relegated to Hildcgardia.10. Sterculia heritieriformis Arenes represents a mixture of Heritiera littoralis and Firmiana colorata.11. Sterculia guppyi Greenwood is a synonym of Firmiana diversifolia A. Gray.12. Ficus serp-yllifolia Blume belongs actually to Apocynaceae and is renamed: Micrcchites serpyllifolia (Bl.) Kosterm. It is suggested that M. radicans Markgr. is conspecific with this wide-spread species.13. Ortholobium Gagnepain, being inadmissable under the Rules (no latin diagnosis)is replaced by Cylindrokelupha Kosterm. The following new species are presented: C. poilanei Kosterm., C. platyphylla Kosterm.; C. annamcnse Kosterm. and C. chevalieri Kosterm.

Abstract

ARDIYANI, M., ARDI, W. H., HUTABARAT, P. W. K. & POULSEN, A. D. 2021. Etlingera comosa, a new species (Zingiberaceae: Alpinioidea) from Central Sulawesi. Reinwardtia 20(2): 63−68. — Etlingera comosa Ardiyani & Ardi, a new and unusual species from Tentena, Central Sulawesi exhibiting terrestrial as well as epiphytic habit is described here. It is compared to the morphologically closest Etlingera sublimata A.D.Poulsen, but differs in having tufted sheath, bilobed and asymmetric ligule, loose peduncular bracts, densely pubescent fertile bracts and longer filament. Colour plates, notes on its conservation status and DNA barcode data for the new species are also provided.

Abstract

Kayea Wallich, PI. As. rar. 3: 5. 1832 and Mesua L., Spec. PI. 515.1753 are very closely related.Bentham and Hooker (Gen. PI. 1: 176. 1862) distinguished both generain this way, that Kayea has a one-celled ovarium with one seed and a4-fid style, whereas Mesua has a 2-celled ovary and 4 ovules, the stigmabeing peltate.

Abstract

In the light of recent monographic studies it has been found necessary to augment and revise to some extent the treatment of Javanese Pandanaceae in Backer & Bakhuizen van den Brink's "Flora of Java". Several name changes are suggested and some species omitted by these authors are enumerated. Notes on various species of different origin now cultivated in the Hortus Bogoriensis are also included. Pandanus sect. Multispina Fagerlind is reduced to a subsection of Pandanus sect. Rykia.

Abstract

In July and August 1972, I spent five weeks on an expedition to study rattans and other palms in the provinces of Jambi and West Sumatra. This central area of Sumatra was chosen because expeditions have already been made to South Sumatra in February 1971 and March 1972 and to North Sumatra and Aceh with the Kyoto University Expedition in August 1971, and therefore collections made in this central area would link up collections from the south and north and would hence add considerably to our knowledge of the palm flora of this rich island. After advice from the Department of Nature Conservation in Jambi and from Dr. M. Jacobs in Rijksherbarium (Leiden) had been considered, it was decided to work westwards from Berbak Nature Reserve on the east coast near Nipah Panjang, to the Bukit Barisan, the main range of Sumatra, to Gunung Kerinci Nature Reserve and G. Tujuh near Sungai Penuh and from there, across the western part of the Bukit Barisan to Padang and Bukittinggi. From Bukittinggi it was planned to visit the Kafflesia arnoldii Nature Reserve at Batang Palupuh, and then return to Jambi by way of Muara Tebo and Muara Tembesi, where reputedly there still exists lowland forest. By more or less confining our collecting activities to the normally neglected Palmae it was hoped that within the time available a large area could be covered reasonably, and a palm transect for central Sumatra made. Two assistants from Bogor accompanied me to help in the difficult task of collecting rattans: Dedy Darnaedi (Herbarium Bogoriense) and Abdul Hanan (Kebun Raya). These assistants were also given individual collecting assignments as part of a scheme for training assistants in field botany. Dedy was to collect Pteridophyta and Hanan to collect material for growing in the Kebun Raya. Soetrisno Soewoko, head of Nature Conservation in Jambi accompanied us throughout tha expedition.
