Abstract

JOKO SUUSTYO. 1986. Analysis of organic acid and amino acid in natto fermented by 7 strains of Bacillus natto. Berita Biologi 3 (6): 277 - 282. The ability of seven strains of Bacillus natto produced a number of organic and amino acid components in natto were investigated. Raw, submerced and autoclaved soybeans for natto contained 1.15% 0.46% and 0.77% in organic acid and 0.19%, 0.30% and 0.30% in amino acid, while after fermentation those range were 0.36 - 0.90% in organic acid and 2.86 -6.08% in amino add. During submercing, autoclaving and fermenting, citric acid component decreased down very sharply to about one hundredth of starting level. While acetic,iso-butiric and iso-valeric components increased up to 84.92%, 96.60% and 95.87%, respectively. Mean while, glutamic acid, iso-leucine,leucine andphenylalanine components of amino acid increased up to 84.36%, 90.52%, 91.67% and 95.88%, respecti

H. SUTARNO & M.H. SIAGIAN, 1986.respiration type and ripening of avocado fruits. Berita Biologi 3(6) : 283 - 286. Respiratiqn late and ripening of avocado fruits under storage at 25°, 28 ± 1°, 31°, and 33°C were investigated. Respiration, rate increased obviously after stored for seven days. The longest ripening period was six days i.e. from 6th to 11th days under 31°C storage. The best ripening fruit performance was obtained from storage at 31°C and 28±1°C for 7 days.

Abstract

D.I. HARTOTO. 1986. Local and spatial distribution of Puntius binotatus and Rasbora lateristriata in Ci Taman Jaya and Ci Binua, Ujung Kulon. Berita Biologi 3(6): 261 - 267. A study of local and spatial distribution of the "beunteur" (Puntius binotatus) and the "paray" (Rasbora lateristriata) on two streams at the vicinity of Ujung Kulon National Park was conducted during dry (August 1983) and rainy season (January 1984).This study as a part of a sets of autecological studies, was aimed to reveal the differences of local and spatial distribution pattern of the two species. The results indicated that the pattern of distribution of paray were not significantly differed from beunteur, however, it was clearly shown that there are certain centers of local distribution for each species. It was also shown that the upstream segments were dominated by the beunteur and the downstream/segments by the paray. Observation on the spatial .distribution yield that the beunteur dominated the calm water habitat resources and paray occupied the rapidly moving water habitat resources. The possibilities of control mechanism of each pattern of distribution from time. to time;including inter and intraspecific competition, substrate preferences and others; were briefly discussed.

H.B. MUNAF. 1986.The hosts and species of ticks of the genera Amblyomma, Boophilus and Rhipicephalus recorded parasitizing buffaloes and cattle in Indonesia.Berita Biologi 3 (6) : 287 - 292.About 30 species of mammals, one reptile and Several birds were incriminated as the hosts for seven species of ticks of the genera Amblyomma, Boophilus and Rhipicephalus parasitizing buffa loes artd cattle in Indonesia. Among the ticks, B. microplus and R. pilans: are considered a serious pest to livestocks, whilst A. testudina'rium could become a- potential vector in spreading diseases.A. babirussae was recorded as an endemic species found in Central and South Sulawesi; and R. haemaphysaloides seemed likely to have a limited distribution in the upperpart half of Sumatera only. A key to identify the seven species of ticks listed is given.

MOH. AMIR & WORO A. NOERDJITO, 1986.The presence insects on the intercrop plants of pigeonpeas and tomatoes. Berita Biologi 3(6): 268 -272.Intercropping system to reduce number of potential insect pests. However, the result will be vary depend on the appropriate component of the selected crops. The experiments using toniatoes as an intercrop of pigeonpeas was carried out at the HKTI (Himpunan Karya Tani Indonesia) garden at Tajur Bogor. The number of insect species as well as diversity in the intercropped pigeonpeas were compared with that in the pure stand of the same crops. The result indicated that number of insect species visited in the intercropped pigeonpeas was greater than in its pure culture. The number of insect species in the intercropped and pure pigeon peas increased with the increase of its developmental stages. The index diversity in the intercropped pigeonpeas were higher than that in its culture.

RISTIYANTI. M. MARWOTO & M. DJAJASASMITA. 1986. Competition and population density of the molhiscan fauna in Lake Singkarak, West Sumatera. Berita Biologi 3(6): 293 - 296.A study of the competition and density of the molluscan fauna of coastal water in Lake Singkarak, West Sumatera, has been carried out in October 1982. The molluscs collection consisted of 4 thiarids (Brotia costula, Melanoides granifera, M. tuberculata and Thiara scabra), 2 planorbids (Gyraulus feunerborni and G. sumatranusj, 1 bulimid (Emmericiopsis lacustris) and 1 corbiculid clam (Corbicula moltkeana). The stony and sandy coastal 2 water is dominated by B. costula (59/0.09 m ) 2followed by C. molticeana'(32/0.09 m ), E. lacus- 2 2 tris (31/0.09 m ), M. tuberculata (21/0.09 m ) 2 and the other species 1 - 10/0.09 m .The water quality (temperature 27.7°C, pH 6.3, alkalinity 88.5 ppm and disolved oksigen 7.95) and food (detritus and periphyton) seems to be adequate to wpport the molluscan life.

SRI HARTINI & JAMTA AZIZ. 1986. Rearing Tabanus rubidus (Diptera : Tabanidae) in the laboratory. Berita Biologi 3 (6) : 273 - 276. Horseflies Tabanus rubidus were reared in the laboratory under 27.5-°C room temperature. Flies from the field layed eggs 5.8 days (i-7 days) and hatching leaching 62.3%.The aquatic larvae required "I i as sheltei plant Two 15 monthsweie needed before larvae could be transfeired to a sintable substrate for pupation. An average of 13.5 days (18-40 days) was required for pupation The total period required to develop from eeg to imago was 109 da\s 92 114 da\s) (sexual ratio between males and females was 1.2 : 1).The first generation of flies obtained could only survue for 9.4 days (5 - 12 days) without ansisn at being abls to produce offspring. Rearing techni ques for each developmental stadia are discussed

NANDA UTAMI. 1986, Natural hybrid between A. pinnata and A. Obtusifolia in Bogor Botanical Garden.Berita Biologi 3(6): 297 - 300.The morphology and leaf anatomy of three collections of Arenga of incertain identity and grown in Bogor Botanical Garden are investigated and i compared with other species. The investigation showed that the characters of these collections oscillate between A pinnata and A. obtusifolia. Consequen tly it is suggested that the plants probably represent a natural hybrid of these two species.
