Abstract

S.H. RAHAJU, H.J.D. LATUPAPUA & S.ABDULKADIR. 1987.The evaluation of some Rhizobium strains as the inoculants and then effects on the growth of Albizia chinensis and A. lebbeck. Suppl. Berita Biologi 3 : 38 - 44. A study was conducted to evaluate some Rhizobium strains on the growth of A. chinensis and A. lebbeck and used them as the inoculants. Three experiments were carried out under the green house conditions, the 0.5 gallon plastic pots were filled with sterile sand as the medium. The experimental design was carried out Completely Randomized Design with five replicates. The first and second experiments were implemented on A chinensis which were consisted of 10 and 7 Rhizobium strains respectively, whilst the third experiment was implemented on A. lebbeck by using 18 Rhizobium strains. Each experiment was lasted in three months. The parameters of investigation were dry weight of total plants, the plant parts above the medium surface, the plant parts under the medium surface, the roots and the nodules respectively, also was counted the symbiotic capacity. The results showed that all inoculated plants produced nodules except the plants that were inoculated with Rhizobium sttains Cg and Ri. The best inoculant was strain number 34 which implemented on A chinensis and A lebbeck.

I NJOMAN K.KABINAWA 1987.Analysis of some physical-chemical factors affecting the blooming of Microcystis aeruginosa Kutz. in the central part of the man made lake Jatiluhur. Berita Biologi 3(7) : 321 -325. An investigation on some physicai-chemical factors which may affect the occurence of blooming Microcystis aeruginosa Kutz.was conducted in the central part of the man made lake Jatiluhur from April to June 1981. Observation was carried out in the morning (07.30 -09.00) and in the afternoon (12.30 - 14.00) in the interval three a week. The investigation, included physical-chemical properties of the water,a quantitative and volumetric assessment of the Microcystis colonies. The water of this man made lake is considered relatively suitable for the growth of many aquatic organisms. At the commence of the blooming of the algae the oxygen, calcium, phosphate and nitrate content tend to increase, and so the water temperature.During the blooming of the Microcystis the number of colonies 39,585 and 35,685 per litre was achieved, while the volume was about 0.32 - 0.34 ml per litre.

Abstract

H. SUTARNO & R. RASYANI. 1987. Morphogeneses and physiological maturity of jambu bangkok (Psidium guajava L.) fruits.Berita Biologi 3(7) : 326 - 329. Studies on nVorphogeneses and physiological maturity of jampu bangkok fruits were carried out from grown i plants in Bogor. Fruits developed from oval to round and nerly egg shape with fruit diameter at about 100 - 110 mm for 18 - 25 weeks. Moisture content and softness of fruits increased slowly at the early time of ripening, but respiration rate increased obviously during period of shape development and ripening. Optimal yield was obtained, when harvesting at the last time of fruit enlargment, i.e. 18 weeks from blooming.

Abstract

RISTIYANTI M.MARWOTO. 1987.Some fresh water mussels family L'nionidae and gastropods from Rengas and Sungkai Rivers in Jambi province. Berita Biologi 3(7): 306 -309.Four species of unionids were found in Rengas river; of these Pseudodon vondenbuschianus,Contradens ascia dimotus,Ctenodesma sp.and Rectidens gracilis, while Physunio superbus and C. ascia dimotus were found in Sungkai river. The density of p.superbus was higher than the other species (7 ind/0.09 m ),it seems was affected by the organic detritus and the differences of the substratum sediment. Some of P.superbus were mature with many eggs and glochidia larvae inside the outer gills. The length of this mature mussels is 28 - 56 mm, while the average is 52 mm.The difficulties in finding young Union idae may be due to their size is relatively small it was or caused by the specific biology of these animals. The occurance of some gastropods in Rengas and Sungkai river were also discussed.

Abstract

H. SIMBOLON & SUKENDAR. 1987. Vegetation and soil conditions of forest in Lelofui, Mount Mutis, Soe, East Nusa Tenggara. Suppl. Berita Biologi 3 : 6 - 10.Research on vegetation and soil conditions of forest in Lelofui, Mount Mutis, Soe East Nusa Tenggara has been done. The density of trees were 358 per nectar; height of canopies ranged between 25 m and 35 m with Eucalyptus urophylla as a dominance species. The relative basal area of E. urophylla was 72,82% which was greater than total basal area of remaining species. The others important species were Podocarpus imbricates, Ilex odorata and Acer niveum. The density of saplings were 708 per hectar. The dominant species of this sapling was Daphniphyllum laurinum with the relative basal area of 69,93% The height of sapling species were less then 10 m. The other important species of saplings were Scutellaria discolor and Acer niveum. The plot consisted of 17 species of trees and 9 species of saplings. This species composition was very small comparing to other tropical rain forests elsewhere. This small number of species composition is suggested not directly correlated with a soil fertility.Soil analisis form the plot showed that its properties was not so distinct from other tropical rain forest soil conditions.
