Abstract

The aim of the research was to increase the production of seed potato size 31 - 60 grams by applying gibberellic acid (GA3). Seeds that passed their dormancy period were dipped in gibberellic acid solutions (10, 15 and 20 mg/L) for 15 minutes a day before planting. Control seeds were dipped in water. Seeds were then air dried for 24 hours. Seeds were planted in plots with length, width and height of 150 x 100 x 30 cm respectively with planting space 20 cm and planting depth 15 cm. The design was randomized block with four replications. The results showed that gibberellic acid enhanced shoot emergence. Gibberellic acid increased stem number, tuber number and yield per plant. Tuber number and yield of size M (31 ? 60 g) increased, whereas tuber number and yield of size LL decreased drastically. The optimum concentration of gibberellin for these increases was 15 mg/L. Plant height was not influenced by gibberellic acid.

Abstract

Cryptococcus sp. was isolated from Kebun Biologi Wamena, Papua. The isolate was able to grow in media with carboxymethyl cellulose as a sole carbon source implying that isolate produced 1-3 ? endo-glucanase. To study the effect of glucose and osmotic pressure, 0.1 % glucose and 0.1 % NaCl were amended into the medium containing CMC. Glucose significantly affected cellulolytic activity and biomass synthesis. At the beginning of cell cultivation glucose augmentation appear to slightly inhibit enzyme activity. Sodium chloride also significantly affected cellulolytic activity. Profile of pH varied dependent on cultivation media. Maximum growth of biomass was achieved after glucose addition, indicating that glucose stimulated cell growth.

Abstract

Empat puluh lima (45) ekor anak tikus jantan umur 1 hari digunakan pada penelitian ini. Anak tikus dibagi menjadi satu kelompok kontrol dan dua kelompok perlakuan yaitu; 1) Kelompok perlakuan gelap (D) dan kelompok ini dibagi lagi menjadi 4 sub kelompok perlakuan berdasarkan jumlah hari gelap yaitu; a) 6 hari (D6), b) 12 hari (D12), c) 18 hari (D18) dan d) 24 hari (D24), dan 2) kelompok perlakuan cahaya (L) juga dibagi menjadi 4 sub kelompok yaitu; a) 6 hari (L6), b) 12 hari (L12), c) 18 hari (L18) dan d) 24 hari (L24). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa lama pemberian cahaya memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap pertumbuhan dan perkembangan Nukleus Suprachiasmatik (NSC). Pertumbuhan anak tikus pada pemaparan cahaya yang berbeda selama periode menyusui menyebabkan rataan pertambahan berat badan baik pada kelompok perlakuan gelap maupun cahaya sangat lambat dengan meningkatnya lama perlakuan. Aktivitas anak tikus berupa (jarak tempuh, awal pergerakan, gerakan di tempat maupun total pergerakan di tempat, dan lama waktu istirahat semakin pendek), cenderung meningkat sebanding dengan lama cahaya. Sedangkan pada perlakuan gelap terjadi sebaliknya yaitu cenderung menurun. Tidak ada perbedaan pengaruh pemaparan cahaya dan gelap terhadap perubahan kadar hormon T3 dalam plasma darah tikus.

Abstract

Laba-laba merupakan salah satu agens pengendalian hayati yang sangat potensial pada ekosistem sawah. Keberadaan laba-laba pada ekosistem sawah diduga dipengaruhi oleh cara bercocok tanam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman laba-laba pada ekosistem sawah di Pulau Lombok, serta melihat pengaruh cara bercocok tanam (monokultur dan polikultur) terhadap keberadaan laba-laba pada ekosistem tersebut. Penelitian dilakukan pada ekosistem sawah di Desa Tanjung Karang dan Lingsar, Kabupaten Lombok Barat, pada bulan Mei sampai Agustus 2006. Pengamatan laba-laba dilakukan dengan perangkap jebak dan jaring ayun. Pada penelitian ini didapatkan 328 individu laba-laba dari 50 spesies, 30 genera, dan 11 familia. Pada ekosistem sawah polikultur, keanekaragaman dan kekayaan spesies laba-laba lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan ekosistem sawah monokultur. Lahan pertanaman yang dikelola secara polikultur dapat menciptakan struktur habitat yang lebih kompleks sehingga lebih banyak spesies laba-laba yang dapat berkoeksistensi di dalamnya.

Abstract

The research aimed to know edible plants diversity on paddy field ecosystem around Gunung Salak forest area was conducted at Cidahu, Cipelang Cipeuteuy, Gunung Bundar 2, Parakan Salak, Pulosari, Tamansari, and Tapos from September 2004 until August 2005. Vegetation analysis using quadratic method while usefulness of plants were based on local experts. Data analysis of diversity index was based on Shannon & Wiener, evenness index was based on Simpson’s, and similarity index was based on Sorensen. There area 73 species of edible wild plants from 37 family were found with diversity index was 3.599, evennes index was 0.834, and similarity index between location was 0.51-0.73. Ageratum conyzoides was found as the dominant plant in the surveyed area. The edible wild plants were utilized by local inhabitants as vegetable (58%), as herb (36 %), as source of carbohydrate (4%), as fruits (1%) and as spice (1 %)
