Abstract

The trophic level of marine waters is closely related to the high concentration of nutrients in the water column. One of nutrient indicators is the concentration of chlorophyll-a. The research aims to map the decade of change in Spermonde waters' status with the indicator of chlorophyll-a by utilizing remote sensing technology. The research method used the digital image processing for the analysis of chlorophyll-a concentrations. Data distribution were plotted with kriging techniques and the trophic level was classified based on the Hakanson method. The results showed that there was a change in the trophic level of the Spermonde Islands in 1996-2020. Mesotrophic conditions changed by 166 m and eutrophic conditions by 134 m every year.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the organization and working relationship of boat lift net fishers, the recruitment system for group members, the form and nature of the employment relationship, and the wage system in fisherman working groups. The research method is qualitative, and the research type is descriptive. Purposefully, the research location was chosen by the defined research challenge. In-depth interviews and observation participation will be used to acquire qualitative data. In this study, data processing and analysis were carried out simultaneously in a process that was carried out continuously since data collection was carried out, especially in organizing, selecting, and categorizing data in the form of narrative descriptions or thick descriptions. The study results indicate that the organization and working relationship of fishers who use lift-net fishing gear on Balang Lompo Island still use local rules that live in the community. These rules regulate cooperative relationships between Ponggawa (owner of production equipment), Ponggawa sea (leader of production activities), and Sawi (workers/subordinates). For the Sawi greens recruitment system, kinship and neighborhood factors are still the main factors compared to other factors. The profit-sharing system applied is one of the local rules inherent in the fishery process. Ritual practices associated with belief in the fishing community on this island are codes of conduct that become rules that are still maintained while making adjustments along with the times.

Abstract

With a coastline of about 78 km, the potential for capture fisheries in the waters of Barru Regency is veryprospective, especially for several groups of purse seine fishermen for kite fishing. This study aims to estimatethe pattern of scads fishing season in Barru Waters, and to simply describe an effective fishing managementinstrument. This study used CPUE time series data (catch per unit effort) from the Marine Fisheries Agency ofBarru Regency in 2017-2020 and interviews with several purse seine fishermen in the last year of 2021. Inaddition, simple satellite imageries of sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a were also used todescribe environmental conditions during the peak fishing season for the study period June-August 2021. TheCPUE moving average time series analysis was used to calculate the fishing season index (IMP). The resultsshowed that the peak season for scads fishing occurred in the east season around Barru coastal Waters, especially in June. This condition may correspond to warm temperatures, and relatively high chlorophyllconcentrations. Such conditions create potential fishing grounds for scads fishery along the study area. Thisinformation on scads fishing season is very helpful in improving the quality of management of small pelagicfisheries in Barru and surrounding waters particularly, when is the best time to increase the fishing efforts.

Abstract

Climbing perch (Anabas testudienus) is one of the inhabitants of Lake Tempe exploited throughout the year, so it is feared that its population has decreased. This study aims to analyze aspects of the dynamics of the climbing perch population, including age group, population growth, mortality, exploitation rate, and yield per recruitment. Data on the total length of fish were collected by measuring all catches of fishermen from October to December 2021. Age groups were analyzed using the Battacharya method, L∞ and K used the Ford and Walford method, M used the Empiris Pauly method, Z, F, and E used the Beverton and Holt method. Data analysis using FISAT-II software and Microsoft Excel. The results showed that the climbing perch in the waters of the Lake Tempe Wajo Regency had a total length range of 6 – 20.8 cm, the highest catch was in the middle-class size of 11.5 – 13.5 cm, and the average length is 13.03±2.15 cm. The population consists of two age groups, the estimated value L∞ = 26.3 cm, K = 0.5 year-1 and t0 = -0.3384 years. The estimated Z, M and F values are 3.41 year-1, 1.22 year-1, and 2.19 year-1, respectively. The exploitation rate is 0.64 year-1, and the actual and optimal Y/R are 0.015gram recruitment-1 and 0.0163 gram recruitment-1, respectively. The conclusion is that climbing perch in the waters of Lake Tempe  Wajo Regency require a short time to reach the maximum length, the main cause of population death due to fishing, and the recruitment process is not optimal due to the high rate of exploitation.
