This journal has been indexed by cabdirect cabi.org, AJD (Academic Journals Database), ISJD (Indonesian Scientific Journal Database), IndexCopernicus, Portal Garuda, researchBib and Google Scholar. The journal is published by Environmental Research Center (PPLH) of Udayana University. The journal is published two times a year: February and August in both printed and online versions. The online version is free access and download. This journal is devoted to publish research papers such as environmental biology, environmental physics, environmental health, ecology, geosciences and environmental chemistry including such matters as land, water, food, conservation, population, risk analysis, pollution, energy, economics of ecological and non-ecological approaches, social advocacy of arguments for change, analytical methods, legal measures, implications of urbanism, energy choices, waste disposal, health effects, recycling, transport systems, political approaches, social impacts and other issues of mass society. There is concern also for marginal areas, under-developed societies, minorities, species loss, etc. The purpose of this journal is to provide input and its solution to the environmental problems that has happened or will be happen from the results of researchs.

Abstract

The decomposition of chicken excreta produce odorous gases, that case environmental pollution. One of alternative technique to reduce the odorous gases is by applying specific bacteria. The aim of this study was to obtain bacterial isolates that capable of reducing NH3 and H2S production and odors. Decomposer bacterial candidates were isolated from chicken manure, guano, and peat soil. Selection of isolates of oxidizing bacteria is carried out using selective media. All isolates that were found from chicken manure, guano, and peat soil tested for hypersensitive reaction on tobacco and hemolysis on blood agar. The isolated bacteria that showed negative HR and HL responses than used for a further experiment. Five isolates of bacteria which reduce odors based on organoleptic test were WiK 15, TnK 7, WiGu 11, CGu 7 and MaGa 5. NH3 and H2S from decomposition chicken excreta were analyzed by spectrophotometric and colorimetric method. The average of total NH3 production from seven days observation showed ranged level from 1.09 ppm to 1.77 ppm, while total H2S gas production ranged from 15.05 to 16.57 ppm. Bacterial isolate CGU 7 showed make lowest total production of NH3.

Abstract

Optimum plant growth depends on numerous ecological factors. In relation to this theme, there is an old law called Law of the Minimum Liebig. The postulate discussed the growth of the plant that is determined by the scarcest environmental factors. It is one of the oldest ecological postulate proposed more than one and a half-century ago. It has become one of the most important foundations for agriculture and biology, even the in contemporary biology. This short review will provide the history, principles, development and criticism, and applications in some recent biological sciences, including evolution, conservation, ecological indicator and even climate change.

Abstract

Rubber tree (Hevea brasilliensis) has a very big role in the economy and the absorption of CO2. Rubber plants as well as forest plants capable of processing CO2 as a carbon source that is used for photosynthesis. CO2 absorption can be enhanced through the implementation of rubber based intercrops system. This study aims to determine the potential for carbon sequestration in rubber based intercrops system. The experiment was conducted at the Sembawa Research Station, South Sumatra, with two cropping pattern (PT), namely PT1: rubber plants + intercrops (peneaple, cowpea, sweet sorghum, upland rice, sweet corn, ginseng), and PT2: rubber plant of monocultures. Measurement of carbon reserves consist of tree biomass, intercrops biomass and soil organic matter. The results showed that the absorption CO2 of intercrops i.e: peneaple (5,87 tons/ha), cowpea (4,08 tons/ha), sweet sorghum (12,84 tons/ha), upland rice (8,68 tons/ha), sweet corn (10,63 tons/ha), and ginseng (3,31 tons/ha). The addition of carbon sequestration due to intercrops rubber were 296,59% or 33,96 tons CO2/ha compared to the rubber plant of monocultures.

Abstract

Erosion control in the community-based Lake Batur area is directed to maintain the balance of Lake Batur. Erosion triggered by the pattern of management of agricultural lands less attention to aspects of soil and water conservation. The purpose of this research is; (1) to obtain a community-based erosion control model, (2) Land management Mapping on the edge of the lake, (3) erosion control strategy at the edge of the lake. This research field experiment and surpei, sampling is done by purposive sampling with amount of 64 sample. The socio-economic support data of the community was determined by 180 respondents in cluster sampling. Interviews and questionnaires are closed questions on a conventional scale. The characteristics of the lake were analyzed descriptive statistics using the SPSS tool. Land mapping is done by GPS method with GIS device. Predict erosion using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) Model, for sedimentation using the Stanford Sediment model. The analysis of the rate due to erosion, done by non linear regression analysis. The analysis shows that the settlement has an average of 115,85%, plantation 245,50% and sedimentation level 1,017,93 m3 / year. Sedimentation was tested on both sides with a 95% confidence level on the modeled sediment data. Conclusions to tackle erosion using a community-based Terracing Mekar land arrangement model that collaborates with elephant grass and vetiveria.

Abstract

Polewali Mandar has a wealth of tropical forests,to the extent of reaching 72.814 ha. As a forest ecosystem, it plays a very important role for human development and health. Therefore, a healthy forest is needed that can support human life.Human growth and development, has provided various negative impacts on forest ecosystems.Forest management that has been applied has not been able to maintain the optimal function of forests, the more damaged forests. Many economic interests dominate the implementation of forest management. In order to maintain and restore forest functions optimally from various threats that increasingly necessary reorientation to change the practices of forest resource management and the environment wisely, so that the crisis destruction of forests and the environment can be controlled. To the community and various parties related to the management of forest resources and the environment needed awareness to embody the moral and ethics of the environment.
