Abstract

This study is entitled "The Role of Physical Fitness to Improve the Self Quality of Elementary School Students in the district of Aceh Besar." The objective of this research is to describe the role of physical fitness in a self quality improvement of Elementary School students in the district of Aceh Besar. The population was the elementary school students in the district of Aceh Besar. The samples numbered 90 students were drawn from four, i.e. 60 from superior schools and 30 from the ordinary schools in the district of Aceh Besar. The method used in this research was descriptive quantitative. The data which were collected using a questionnaire (Liker’s scale) were analyzed using simple statistics. From the results of the data analysis, it was found that the responses of the students from the elementary schools in Aceh Besar district on the role of physical fitness in self improvement were as follows. (1) Strongly agree (63%), (2) agree (19%), disagree (10%) strongly disagree (8%). The implication of the results is that it is necessary to maximally apply learning activities that can enhance physical fitness so that the physical education teachers should actively contribute quantitatively and qualitatively to the optimum enhancement. The students who have a good understanding of the importance of physical fitness in various ways will feel the practical implementation of the learning activities conducted by physical education, sports, and health (penjasorkes) teachers both in curricular and extracurricular sessions. Physical education, sports, and health teachers should be able to design learning devices with teaching strategies that can stimulate the development and growth of the students’ psychomotor, cognitive, and affective aspects. Physical education, sports, and health learning can improve the students' physical fitness and prevent them from various diseases such as obesity, heart disease, hypertension, and so on. Having a good physical fitness will also prevent them from insomnia and fatigue, and increase metabolism, intelligence, and health in attending the learning process at school. All parties should prioritize the improvement of the Elementary School students’ physical fitness in Aceh Besar district. Physical education, sports, and health teachers are suggested to increase the resources in order to implement the learning process using reliable competencies which are appropriate to the growth and development of low-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Quality education is the basic thing that must be addressed by the Indonesian government. Among the causes of the slow pace of education progress in Indonesia are geographical problems and the lack of a permanent curriculum to be conducted continuously throughout Indonesia. The district of Aceh Besar has assigned some high schools to become model schools. The model schools have the best-selected teachers as a result of a competition in Aceh Besar and each school has two physical education teachers. In order to know the high or low level of the students’ physical fitness, it needs proper and accurate assessment. In order to know the exact level of the students’ physical fitness, physical education teachers require appropriate measuring instruments. The standard measuring instrument already used by physical education teachers today is the Indonesia Physical Fitness Test. The purpose of this study is to describe the level of physical fitness among the students of the Ali Hasyimi Public High School in the District of Aceh Besar in the 2014/2015 school year. To obtain data in this study, the researcher used a descriptive type of research that seeks to describe, record, and interpret the conditions that occur currently in relation to the level of physical fitness. The approach used to obtain the research data was a test and assessment. The samples in this study were all high school students of the Ali Hasyimi Public High School in the District of Aceh Besar drawn with a total sampling technique. The data were then analyzed using a simple formula including average and percentage. The average value of physical fitness possessed by the male and female students of the state senior high schools in Aceh Besar district in the 2014/2015 school year was measured using the Indonesia Physical Fitness Test and had been adjusted to the norms of the test, as well as confirmed in the table. The category was average. The detailed percentages are as follows. 1). A total of 23 male students (40.35%) were in the average category, 2). A total of 34 male learners (59%) were in the poor category, 3). No learner who was in the category of less than adequate, good and excellent.

Abstract

Physical fitness is closely related to the students’ daily health because it is a person's ability to perform activities or work without experiencing significant physical fatigue. Physical fitness is closely related to human activities in conducting physical activities either on purpose or unintentionally. The learners of the high-grade primary schools in the District of Aceh Besar have improved their physical fitness through the implementation of physical education at school and in daily physical activities together within the family and community. However, analysis of the impacts of such physical fitness is still minimal. This study aims to determine the physical fitness level of the high-grade students of the primary schools in the District of Aceh Besar. The method of study was a field measurement test with the Indonesia Physical Fitness Test (IPFT) instrument. The samples in this study were high-grade students of the Primary Schools in Aceh Besar District in 2015 totaling 81 students from three different areas: advanced, developing and underdeveloped. Abstract

Education that is charged with multicultural values is a staged-educational process that can be used as a binder and a bridge to accommodate differences, such as ethnicity, language, culture, gender, region, and religion in a multi-cultural society in order to create intelligent, wise, and polite personality in dealing with diversity issues. Multicultural education should continue to be understood comprehensively, so it is not stagnant only limited to discourse, and ultimately can be implemented in harmony and without any negative effects. It is this basis that causes multicultural education urgent for immediate implementation in educational institutions, so it is necessary to comprehensively study various aspects of life so that there is a synergy between the academic community and the society of a nation-state. This study employed a research and development (R & D) design from Borg and Gall, while the design of the model was adopted from the development of McKenny. The research procedure was based on the ten-phased design from Borg and Gall that has been modified into three phases, namely (1) a preliminary study; (2) the development of the design; and (3) testing the feasibility of the product. Based on the conclusion, this study recommends that multicultural education is a new discourse of education in Indonesia, but the urgency of its implementation is very high; the multicultural education curriculum can be implemented through each level of education, the student program and in the process of habituation through daily learning both within the school and in the family. Multicultural education can be inserted through the planting of multicultural values into the curriculum or learning activities which are responsively multicultural by promoting respect for differences: racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, and territorial between the community members; and no less important is that multicultural education discourse can be implemented within the scope of the family, as the smallest social institution in the community which is most effective learning media in the process of internalization and transformation of values, as well as the socialization of family members.
