Abstract

Atorvastatin calcium is statin class dyslipidemia drug which belongs to the class 2 bioclassification system (BCS) drug, namely drugs that have high permeability and low water solubility. Low solubility in water makes atorvastatin calcium also has low bioavailability (12%). Encapsulation method as a drug delivery system enable bioavailability enhancement of a drug. The aim of this literature review is to discover encapsulation method that can enhance oral bioavailability of atorvastatin calcium in recent research and to explain how obtained encapsulation method could enhance the bioavailability of atorvastatin calcium. The obtained research article from PubMed database. Several forms of encapsulation showed an enhancement in bioavailability, namely nanoparticles, and nanocrystals, nanosponges, nano lipid carrier (NLC), micro and nanoemulsions, and inclusion complexes. The highest increase in oral bioavailability of atorvastatin calcium was obtained by the formation of nanosponges using β-cyclodextrin material with the condensation-polymerization preparation method succeeded in increasing oral bioavailability by 14 times when compared to pure calcium atorvastatin formulations.Keywords: Atorvastatin calcium, Bioavailability, Encapsulation

Abstract

The increase in the Muslim population worldwide has led to rapid growth in the halal product industry. Currently, halal food holds the largest proportion in the global market for halal products, followed by cosmetics and health supplements as one of the main sectors. In the raw materials used for capsule shells and the manufacture of cosmetics, many ingredients come from non-halal sources, such as gelatin, fatty acids, glycerin, and collagen, which are derived from pigs. However, the presence of pork ingredients in cosmetic products and health supplements is prohibited in certain religions, such as Islam. Therefore, the detection of lard in cosmetic and pharmaceutical products plays a crucial role for the benefit of Muslim consumers. Many methods have been developed to detect pork content in highly processed products, one of which is the DNA-based method. This literature review was conducted to explain DNA isolation methods and detection techniques that can be used for pig DNA analysis. A literature search was performed through online databases, and 14 research journals were found that met the inclusion criteria. Based on the collected research, DNA-based methods, including the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and its modifications, have demonstrated the ability to detect porcine DNA in products like cosmetics and health supplements. The selection of DNA detection and isolation methods depends on the type of sample under examination, thus enhancing the accuracy and success of porcine DNA detection.Keywords: DNA analysis, Pig DNA, Pig Content, Cosmetics, PCR, Health Supplements.

Abstract

Later, women cannot separated from cosmetics, such as lip cream. However, many lip creams contains synthetic dye that sometime harmful for our body. Therefore red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) can  used as natural dyes in a  lip cream preparation. In addition, red dragon fruit contains anthocyanins, a group of flavonoid, that has efficacy as an antioxidants. This study aim to develope lip cream as cosmetic preparation containing of red dragon fruit for antioxidant. The extraction was done by Microwave Assisted Extraction (MAE) using ethanol 95%:aquadest (4:1).  Lip cream preparations were made in 3 formulas with varying concentrations of extract, 5% (LCE5), 10% (LCE10) and 15% (LCE 15). The extraction uasing MAE method was yielded the rendemen of 44,12%. Evaluation of the preparations carried out included organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, and spreadability, while antioxidant activity were carried out using spectrophotometry UV-Vis with the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhidrazyl) method. The results showed that all lip cream formulas fulfill the requirement i.e organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, and spreadability. The antioxidant activity of LCE5, LCE10 and LCE15 were 195.26 ± 0.40, 174.94 ± 0,63, and 168.27 ± 0.60, respectively. All the preparation has medium antioxidant activity but LCE15 has a stronger antioxidant activity due to the smallest IC50 compared to LCE5 and LCE10. This result underlying the application of red dragon fruit extract as an antioxidant agent in lip cream preparation.

Abstract

Several risk factors for falls during hospitalization have been reported, of which hypnotics have a major influence. Insomnia is often intractable, and many cases are treated with two or more hypnotics; however, there is concern about the increased risk of falls due to the use of multiple hypnotics. Therefore, we aimed to clarify the effects of combining conventional and new hypnotics on the risk of falls. The impact of the concomitant use of hypnotics on the occurrence of fall events was evaluated retrospectively in patients 20 years of age and older received acute care medicine in a university hospital between January 2013 and August 2022. The survey items included age, sex, drug prescription status, whether a fall accident had occurred, and its circumstances. Of the 47,236 eligible patients, 976 experienced a fall accident during hospitalization (fall rate, 2.07%). Logistic regression analysis of the patient population not taking benzodiazepine receptor agonists showed that age (odds ratio [OR], 1.04), sex (OR, 0.84), and ramelteon use (OR, 3.06) independently contributed to falls. In contrast, in the patient population taking benzodiazepine receptor agonists, logistic regression analysis showed that only age (OR: 1.03) and sex (OR: 0.76) independently contributed to falls. This suggests that ramelteon, suvorexant, and lemborexant, in combination with benzodiazepines, may not increase the risk of falls. Hypnotics with novel mechanisms of action may not increase the risk of fall when combined with benzodiazepine receptor agonists. evaluasi. Keywords: fall risk, hypnotics, acute care hospitals
