Abstract

Thematic hadith research represents a crucial method for comprehensively grasping hadith by gathering different narrations linked to a specific theme. Nevertheless, the application of thematic hadith studies in social life tends to be incomplete and has not been thoroughly analyzed. This article seeks to examine how thematic hadith studies are applied in the community’s social life, focusing on their applications, ethical standards, and societal effects. This research uses a qualitative methodology, primarily relying on library research. Data were gathered from primary hadith collections and related literature via thematic searches employing pertinent keywords and were examined through classification and content analysis methods. The results suggest that thematic hadith research can be applied in societal contexts by strengthening moral values, social ethics, and communication practices based on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This implementation includes elements of interpersonal relationships, social cohesion, fairness, and acceptance within the community. Additionally, thematic hadith research offers explicit ethical principles for social engagement, including honesty, mutual respect, and steering clear of actions that could harm others. Consequently, thematic hadith research serves as both an academic method and a practical basis for promoting a peaceful and civilized society.

Abstract

The development of information technology, globalization, and social transformation has brought various moral challenges to contemporary Muslim societies. Phenomena such as the spread of misinformation, declining communication ethics, increasing individualism, weakening social solidarity, and the erosion of moral responsibility indicate the urgency of strengthening ethical values based on Islamic teachings. This study aims to analyze the relevance of Qur'anic social ethics in addressing the moral challenges faced by contemporary Muslim communities. The research employs a qualitative approach using descriptive-analytical methods and thematic social interpretation. The primary data are derived from Qur'anic verses related to social ethics, while secondary data are obtained from classical and contemporary tafsir literature, academic books, and relevant scholarly articles. The findings reveal that the Qur'an offers comprehensive ethical principles through the values of justice ('adl), honesty (ṣidq), social solidarity (ta‘āwun), moral responsibility (mas'ūliyyah), tolerance (tasāmuḥ), and ethical communication. These values remain highly relevant in responding to various contemporary social issues, including misinformation, social conflict, moral degradation, and the challenges of digital society. Therefore, Qur'anic social ethics can serve not only as a normative religious guideline but also as a conceptual framework for building a just, harmonious, and civilized society in the modern era.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of sabr patience in the Qur’an through a thematic exegesis approach by analyzing verses related to patience. In modern psychological studies, the concept of patience is often associated with resilience, emotional regulation, and self-control, but it tends to focus primarily on psychological aspects. Meanwhile, the Qur’an views sabr as a broader concept because it integratively encompasses spiritual, emotional, and social dimensions. Therefore, this study is conducted to construct a conceptual understanding of sabr from a Qur’anic perspective. This study employs a qualitative approach using the thematic exegesis method (tafsir maudhu‘i). The research data consist of Qur’anic verses related to the concept of sabr, which are analyzed through a process of thematic categorization based on semantic relevance. To strengthen the interpretation, this study refers to classical and contemporary exegetical works, such as Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, and Tafsir Al-Misbah. The findings show that the concept of sabr in the Qur’an is divided into three main themes: (1) sabr as a spiritual strength, related to steadfastness of faith and belief in Allah’s help; (2) sabr as emotional regulation and self-control, functioning as a religious coping mechanism in facing life’s pressures; and (3) sabr as social relations and solidarity, emphasizing the importance of empathy, tolerance, and mutual advice in social life. These findings indicate that sabr from a Qur’anic perspective is not only understood as the ability to endure trials, but also as a process of self-transformation that comprehensively integrates spiritual, emotional, and social dimensions.
