Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of parents in improving the science achievement of fourth-grade students at State Elementary School 040448 Kabanjahe and to identify the obstacles parents face in supporting their children's learning process. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive research method. The population in this study was all 32 fourth-grade students at State Elementary School 040448 Kabanjahe. Data collection techniques used a questionnaire to measure parental role and documentation to obtain data on students' science achievement. Before use, the research instrument was tested for validity and reliability. The results of the validity test indicated that 22 items were valid and suitable for use as a data collection tool. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics, namely the Pearson correlation test and simple linear regression. The results of the study indicate that parental involvement is in the very good category, with an average percentage of 87.17%. Students' social studies learning achievement is also in the good category, with an average score of 90.38. The correlation test results indicate a positive and significant relationship between parental involvement and students' social studies learning achievement, with a correlation coefficient of 0.830 and a significance level of 0.000 <0.05. The regression test results indicate that parental involvement significantly influences students' social studies learning achievement. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the better the role of parents in providing guidance, motivation, supervision, and learning facilities, the higher the students' social studies learning achievement. Therefore, parental involvement in their children's education is crucial for improving student learning success.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Inquiry learning model on students’ learning outcomes in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) on the topic of human body organs among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 040448 Kabanjahe. This research employed a quantitative approach using an experimental method. The research design was a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of two classes: class V-A as the experimental group with 35 students and class V-B as the control group with 29 students. The research instrument used was a multiple-choice test consisting of 25 items that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were collected through pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing with a t-test using SPSS version 22. The results showed that the average posttest score of the experimental class was 81.57, which was higher than the control class average score of 70.34. The hypothesis test result showed a significance value of 0.001 (< 0.05), indicating that H₁ was accepted and H₀ was rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Inquiry learning model has a significant effect on students’ learning outcomes in IPAS on the topic of human body organs for fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 040448 Kabanjahe.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the difficulties faced by teachers in teaching mathematics in Grade V at SDN 040515 Tigajumpa. The research employed a descriptive design using mixmethod approaches, with data collection techniques consisting of questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The questionnaire was administered to 22 students to obtain an overview of their perceptions of the learning process, while interviews were conducted with the classroom teacher to explore in depth the obstacles encountered. Observations were carried out to obtain factual data regarding the interactions between the teacher and students during the implementation of classroom learning activities. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that teachers’ difficulties arise from the interaction of internal and external factors. Internal factors include classroom management, the implementation of student-centered learning, the use of instructional media and information and communication technology, the utilization of learning resources, and the implementation of assessment and feedback that have not been optimal. External factors include students’ low understanding of abstract material, differences in cognitive abilities, limited learning facilities, and a lack of support from the students’ family environment. The interaction of these factors results in the dominance of lecture, question-and-answer, and discussion methods, as well as low student participation, leading to less optimal mathematics learning quality. Therefore, improving the effectiveness of mathematics learning requires strengthening teachers’ competencies and fostering sustainable and synergistic support from various related stakeholders .
